Foot Well Lighting

Hey guys, I really wanna pick up some blue LED strips from an auto parts store and put them in the footwells in my 06 TL, how would I go about wiring this? I dont want it to be a ricey look just a nice blue glow to go along with the rest of the blue. I figure this will be a good first mod.

I plan on doing this exact same thing during my winter break from school. I bought a controller for them too so they can be dimmed. I'll let you know how mine turns out in a few months lol.

Humm dont your factory ones work good enough? I had an 07 base TL and the footwells had a nice dim blue hue to them. I now have a 07 Type S and the foot wells glow red. Looks bad ass!!!

Edit: Ok maybe the older models dont have them. Well if thats the case for sure do it!! They come OEM on the 07 and 08's and look amazing! DONT over do it though too bright and it looks rice (just like you said).

I did this on my 06 base. I got the LED strips from v-leds.com and a switch from Oznium.com.
Basically, you place the lights and run your wires to wherever you want the switch. Attach all of your + to the + on the switch, run all of your - (including the one on the switch) to ground. Get an Add-A-Fuse and tap the parking lights fuse from the fusebox, throw in a 7.5A fuse and run it to the switched power lead on the switch.
I always keep the the switch in the ON position. With this setup, the lights will come on with your parking lights and will light up whenever you unlock/open your doors (I keep my headlight switch in the parking light position all the time). You can turn them off via the switch whenever you don't want them.

Note that you will want Strutking or Ultimate Pedals once you do this mod---the mods just keep snowballing! UGH!!!

My friend used CFL's in his GS300 and the interior footwell lights up pretty bright. Works better than the LED bars at the parts store just my opinion. They also come in diff colors too.

I did this with the V-leds strips... had to tape up all but one of the LEDs cause it was just too bright.

Tap both of them into the center console light, they will come on whenever you turn your lights on, no need to go to the fuse box

the light in the center console goes on when you turn on your headlights, so just tap into that as your power source.

(it's under your cup holders)
there are several threads on removing your center console

i did the footwell lighting just like dwb993 did, it looks amazing at night and its not ricey or overkill at all. I like the dimmed look on the 07 and 08s alot but this way it stands out a little bit more IMO.

I needed to find a ground for my Accord fog switch and found a star ground behind the lower dash cover. I used this factory ground point for my footwell LEDs, too.

Link to the strip lights on V-LEDs.com (I used the 6" strips in blue):

I got my LED strips from here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWNX:IT

I put them in other people's cars as well and they love them. They are really bright too.

This vendor has them in bigger sizes with more LEDs and different colors as well.

did someone connect them so they work just like the dome light?

when the door opens they light up and then fade and turn off when the door closes. But that you also have an option of just turning them on with a switch. so they stay lit. This is the only way I would do this mod if I could do them just like that.

Crestwood1001: Not sure---I did not use a controller on mine, just a switch. Try PM'ing Matt HKD for more info.

myron: To have it work with the dome lights, you would have to make your wiretaps in the same locations as for the Illuminated Door sills, I think. There is a DIY thread for those here:
http://www.sbadesign.com/acurazine/sills/
There may also be some good info from bzyrice's installation of exterior puddle lights. Start at post #26 of this thread for more info:

Ohhhh i was under the impression a controller was needed, hey btw where is shrewsbury at in PA? Im in mountaintop, up in the northeast. Im gonna show my dad all this stuff when he gets home and see if he will order the stuff for me, 5 bucks a strip makes it a very affordable first mod! Considering he just bought me a 25,000$ car and paid in cash its iffy if he will let me right now lol

^^Baby steps, dude. You have plenty of time to mod. Right now, get to know the car and practice your driving skills. Don't do anything stupid---as much as you love the car, you would be hating life without it.
I'm in south-central PA, below York.

In this DIY...the door sill lights are tapping into a wire in the B pillar which is basically the trigger for when the door opens correct? so if we were to install the footwell LEDs and use this as the power source they would come on and fade out with the dome lights right? Can anyone confirm this for me? Thanks

Not sure if they would fade, since these wires are only the door open indicators. This is why I posted the other link to the puddle lights. The puddle light tap locations WILL make them fade, but they are harder to get to. I guess it just depends on how much hassle you want to go through.
Honestly, I think the fade would look cool, but I like the way I have mine (always on, until I hit the switch).

Yea i want them on whenever its dark, which happens with tapping into the light fuse, and the option to turn them off with the switch is nice. Where did you mount the switch? I dont wanna drill, i want it hidden

Free mods rock:
De-badge--heat and floss + Goo-Gone
Remove pinstripes
5AT short shifter

Cheap mods (under $100):
Painting grill/wheels
LEDs (interior and exterior)
KP Window RollUp (my personal favorite)

Search the 3G Garage here: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/3g-tl-service-department-aka-garage-questions-answers-check-here-first-553557/
There is a TON of info to browse there.

You may think you're not a new driver, but I can tell you it takes an average of 10 years before you will see and experience enough on the road to qualify you as a "seasoned" driver. Either way, the car is new for you---learn it well and it will serve you well.

I haven't mounted it yet---still not sure where I want it! Right now, I have it near my right knee, up behind the console panel. I think I will either mount it there or in the center console. Its not something I need easy access to, so I think the console is the ticket.

has anyone done the puddle leds wired with the dome lights. I'm not interested in always having them lit when the parking lights are on...just when entering/exiting and when using the dome light.

In short, I'm looking for the best place to tap an oem dome/door light wire.

I think to get this you'd need to get into the A pillar, which is what has prevented me from doing it so far. I'd like to find something a little easier to get to personally.

Use the rear dome lights for your tap. Run the line under the headliner and down to the floor. Run all 4 footwell strips to that main tap and ground. They will function just like the domes and will fade out after you close the door. They will also turn on when you turn on the rear domes either via the rear dome switch itself or the master switch on the front upper console. No switch is needed and if you use speaker gauge wire, you should not need a fuse. One more hint: use quick disconnects on the strips for easier replacement, if necessary.

So DBW here is my plan, just wanna triple check before I start. Iv got a red nos switch that used to be used for my KC Daylighters on my truck. Ill tap into the parking light fuse, run all my wiring, find a good ground bolt, and whenever my lights are on the footwells will light up. Correct?
