Exhaust

Hey guys, I was wondering what the best sounding exhaust modification was that has a deep sound to it.

Welcome newbie. I advise you to read some of the threads already posted in performance section. There is about 4-5 asking the same thing. I t can help you decide on what you might be looking for. Best is subjective. Look into youtube videos on XLR8, RV6, ATLP, Endless RPM exhaust systems to get an idea on how they sound. Also, for sound only, search for the exhaust stage mods. Its easier to google search e.g. acurazine exhaust stage mods.

Our XLR8 exhaust has a quality tone and even sounds a little more exotic than the others. The ATLP is also pretty loud but has a more deep rumble. If you want something a little quieter look into the Tanabe Medalion Touring.

Common "mods" to your exhaust would be muffler deletes, resonator deletes, or mid-muffler deletes. If you don't want the big dollar price try to remove the mid-muffler. Then maybe look into replacing the stock resonator or the rear mufflers.

I too am considering my first real performance mod & am looking for a bit more stop light rumble. I know this has been discussed at great length here & the idea of re-re-reposting to some newbs about exhaust changes/upgrades makes you old-timers want to pluck your own eyeballs out. But here's a question from a total non-mech guy:

If we remove muffler, mid-muffler and/or resonator ...how does that not affect the overall length of the system? Follow me? If heads-to-tips length of the exhaust system is, say, 11-feet fully intact--if you go and take out the mid-mufflers, is it not then only 9-feet? Is it necessary to weld in some straight pipe or something in order to maintain proper length so everything fits into hangars & brackets, etc.?

Sorry if this is a really, really stoopid question - but I'm just not a nuts & bolts guy.

thx

Well when you typically remove or "delete" one of those you are replacing the section with new pipe, straight pipe. Other wise you have a break in the system and everything is dumping out the first break. Some also cut out the stock resonator and replace with another much better flowing replacement (same with mufflers).

Also, most exhaust shops will actually weld a new hangar on the new pipe if it requires it.

Thanks, eastside. So riddle me this, if you don't mind. In terms of deletes ...muffler, resonator, mid-muffler... is it typical to take out one, two and/or all three? I'm thinking this is my first step before dropping bigger bucks on an after-market system & see how I like it.

I would start with the mid-muffler then try the resonator. But when the two are removed you get some raspyness. So what I'd then recommend is replacing the stock resonator with a Dynomax or Magnaflow muffler/resonator. Check it out in YouTube to find the one that fits best with your style. But I would start with those before considering removing the rear mufflers. The rears di would replace with something of quality and not straight pipe.
