Engine bay is HOT but gauge says normal

Just noticed my hood gets really hot along the hood seams. I also note the radiator fan is on a lot. It could be the weather but I just wanted to see if anybody else has this happening as well.

If the temperature gauge says its normal, it's normal. I'm in Florida and mine does the same thing.

pretty sure thats just because the engine heat is escaping through the seams so it feels hot there. If you do some cooling mods like removing the windshield cowl, that'll really help with the heat. However, theres no problem leaving it as is, the car can handle it.

If it helps any, after driving, I open the hood to cool down the engine faster. Even in the Summer and humidity of Kansas City, it's still OK.

I noticed right away the underhood temperatures feel higher on this car, compared to other ones I've owned

I also started to leave the hood open on certain occasions, to make it cool down faster

This car does get very hot. Not as hot as my old rx7 though. I dont like how the temp gauge never moves. That does not seem accurate to me, like a "range" of temps is at dead center saying its "okay" to be at that range of temp. I am thinking about looking into an aftermarket temp gauge, but I dont want it to look tacked on cheaply and really the stock gauge should let me know if its in a dangerous temp.

Ofcourse our engines get really hot. The TL lacks efficient ventilation thus why we get heat soak. Some members remove the plastic covers and hood insulation. Others drill holes into the cowl to help increase ventilation.

Keep in mind that the temp gauge monitors the coolant temperature. Not the engine bay.
