Awesome thread! I just did my install yesterday and it came out very nice. The only thing I did differently was that I cut a slot in the bumper just big enough for the space in the type-s lip to clear. The bottom of the bumper remained intact so it mounted back onto the car perfectly.

I love this thread, but have a question...
how much work would be involved in fitting this rear skirt to my stock '08 TL Type-S bumper. Is it a simple bolt on? Either way, would you have the part number handy so that I can order it on acurapartsource.com - dont really want to order the wrong piece. I do love the look of it though. I've had the car 2 weeks and the itch to modify it is one that I cant scratch. So far the car is blacked out with 17% tints all around. I appreciate your help, and pics of my ride will be up as soon as I'm allowed to post some.

Thanks for this DIY OP,i was able to do mine today at the body shop.
This was just a test fit. Cellphone pic

I was really suprised that the Type S lip uses two of the existing holes from my base aspecs cuz i had base Aspecs there before. Ordered some quad tips today

anyone have the type s lip with a comptech exhaust? Also I was wondering if its possible to leave the piece behind the "gap" in the aspec lip as it is. I mean only cut the sides of the exhaust opening and leave the center alone so when the lip is put on there is a soild backing behind it with no hole or need for the mesh.

To do it the OEM way, Get a new Type-S bumper and a Type-S lip. It is a direct bolt on. I didn't have an extra 500 laying around and who cares what the bumper looks like behind the lip. This is the cheap way out that works and nobody can tell the difference.[/QUOTE]
I have a Base Acura TL-08 and I was just wondering, If I wanted to convert it to a Type-S look doing it the OEM way, can I just buy the Type-S rear bumper and lip and slap in on directly with no cutting? Also, will the stock base exhaust fit with this mod or do I need the quads?

The base exhaust fits, take a look at my pics. The cutting wasn't hard at all, was actually really easy. Took me all afternoon/evening though as I wanted to get a good finish.
Just put my type-s lip on. Getting it ready to put the ATLP V2 Quad exhaust on it.
I put a chromed aluminum honeycomb mesh in the opening on mine, epoxied in some aluminum sheet I got from home depot to hold it in place. I used West Systems G-Flex epoxy for this, since it has good adherence to both plastic and metal as long as the parts are prepped properly (follow instructions). Takes 24-hours or so to cure fully though, and may want to wait a little while once you first mix it before you apply the tabs so it doesn't run all over. Has about a 25 minute pot life, so I'd just wait a few for it to thicken some before applying it.
I also used the cut off portion from the bumper to bridge the gap inbetween the type-S lip and the spot where it clipped into before.
Getting the old 3-M double-stick tape off was a PITA though, I spent a while doing that. Used an old credit card & WD-40 to eat up the adhesive (it was ok on the paint, didn't remove any). Once I got most of it off I used a microfiber cloth & more WD-40 to completely remove it. Then washed / cleaned the surface where the new double stick would stick to with denatured alcohol to clean off any oil and prep it for the new 3M tape.
I had the A-Spec lip on it before.

Looks good, even with the same tail pipes. But ya, I wouldn't trust that 3m tape or any tape to hold. I had a feeling that was a bad idea regarding the front diffuser that some people are selling.

Just wanted to say thanks to mmade; bzyrice & everyone else for posting in this thread... Ended up doing my type s rear on my base no problem... Ended up just cutting a small hole in my rear bumper for the rectangle hole part of the lip; fit well...& hope you don't mind bzrice but I used your idea with some red side markers used a grill in between... I'll try & get some pics up...

Oh great thread OP I was on the impression that I needed to buy the
Type S rear bumper in order to get the Type S Aspec Rear lip.
This is gonna save me around $500 dollars. I don't mind messing
my bumper up, cause once that lip is on it's never coming off
Can't wait to do this

Whether it be RV6, XLR8, or ATLP quad exhaust system you will need a type s rear a spec lip for the exhaust tips to fit.
