DRL LED's, how many lumens?

Hey all,

I did a search and I don't see much discussion that is recent regarding DRL LED's. I have ordered the iJDMTOY harness but now the number of 9005 bulbs is overwhelming. How many lumens should I look for? I have seen everything from 800 to nearly 10000. Has anyone purchased good DRL's recently and can recommend? I'd like them to be about as bright as my headlights... I think... but i'm not really sure lol.

As bright as your headlights? Why? So you can be annoying and blind oncoming traffic? No matter, it is unlikely you will be able to as bright as your headlights. You will probably have better luck just trying to match the same color as your headlights.

I'm all about bright lights and matching lights, but yea lets try and not be dicks to others by having insane bright lights that throw light in every direction.

Ok thanks guys lol. No I don't want to be a dick and blind people, and thanks for reminding me about VLED. I think I checked them out years ago. Their DRL bulbs are about 1000 lumens and that seems perfect.

Is it possible to turn the DRL into a different color? Let's say blue. I have seen front turning lights red, also would like to change into blue.. do you know how I go about that??

in order to change the bulb color, you will need to buy a bulb with a corresponding kelvin rating. Blue would be 6000k to 8000k and higher.
Not sure what you mean by front turning lights being red? Headlights could be modified to reflect that.......

LEDs can be found in pretty much any color you want. Always going to be trade offs in any change you make. It could be color, brightness, price, or legality of it all. "Generally" any color other than white, yellow, or amber on the front of the car is highly frowned upon. Some municipalities will get you for it, while others could care less. Depends on what you want to do with your car and the attention it may or may not draw.

My neighbors have red turn signals/hazard lights and I've seen a couple of TLs around my neighborhood with red or orange DRL.. I don't like red that's why I was asking if it's possible to buy blue ones.. I have never found blue, only orange and red.. I have illegal tints anyway but the police around here don't pay too much attention to tints/lights.. I live in Trenton, NJ and everybody does it lol.. Does anyone have different color DRL or turn signal bulbs that are a different color?

I just ordered my pure white VLED DRL's
No colors for me, not really my thing, but as pointed out earlier you can get them in any color pretty much. VLED's come in white or blue tint (6000k).

How reliable are these? I would hate to dig into my lights every time. Is it just me who likes the yellow halogen changing to a nice crisp blue? Makes such a pleasing transition.

I used Diode Dynamics for DRL bulbs - I started out with the iJDMtoy harness and their LED bulbs - they began to flicker on me after a year, so having heard good things about Diode Dynamics, I kept the harness from iJDMtoy but moved up to bulbs from DD - the first pic you can see the ijdmtoy bulb on the left (passenger) and the new DD bulb on the right (driver) - much brighter, but not so bright - i couldn't run them as headlights at night lol - but I do like the brighter output during the day, sometimes the ijdmtoy bulbs would get lost in the glare from the sun - and the second pic is both DD bulbs in - I have have them in over a year and not one issue, it it their 9005 XP80 bulb (rated for 510 lumens $90, 3 year warranty) I also use the same 9005 XP80 bulbs in my lower fogs, their turn signal switchbacks, license plate bulbs, and reverse bulbs - they have been a good purchase.

New VLED DRL's installed

Before

After. Installed iJDMToy harness, tapped parking lights for trigger, which had the added (unplanned) benefit of making the DRL's flash when arming and disarming the alarm.

God so many choices and to me it seems that everyone has good luck with Vleds Cree DD and a few others but that leaves me with what to choose. Im looking to upgrade my headlights my DRL's and I have the inspire fogs to install and want to do all the bulbs at the same time

I definitely want to do the fog lights as well. I could use the exact same bulbs as I did for the DRL's, which would look cool because all 6 lights would pretty much be the same color at that point. My buddy thinks I should do yellow or something, but I just think they are ugly, even if they might work better for actual dog.

I agree with that convept. I would rather have all the light be as close to the same color as possible. I dont like yellow fogs myself
