I don't use manual mode but I let off the gas when my car shifts.

My transmission flares (slips) if I don't. Only 3rd to 4th, though.

During the earlier morning drive to work, I prefer driving it in auto, since Im to tired too care. But after work I always drive in a manual mode cause I'm in happy mode after work. The perks of having an auto/manual. but to your question my transmisson handles the manaul shift pretty good, probably under 1/2 a sec. but i know we all wish it would shift as quick a GTR...and etc...

I know this might be a silly question, but is there any way to damage the trans by shifting up or down too quick or going from manual to drive at certain speeds/times?

Lol, it's a habit. It's almost involuntary.

Shifting from manual to automatic will never cause damage. You won't even feel anything. It's just telling the computer to take over shifting.

Shifting up or down too quickly/early is like shifting a bicycle up or down too quickly. It won't cause damage, but not properly timing the shifts will wear the gears out faster from putting a high load on the wrong gear. However, the car won't let you do anything extreme, like accelerating from a stop in 3rd gear.

Agreed manual mode

The northwest is thick with UA7s I see manual versions all day on the usual used sites but they are almost guaranteed to have a scratched title. I drive the hell outta my 5at. The rev match is sorta cool when you've done some exhaust work too.

It's a Honda AT. It's going to break no matter what you do. Might as well do what you find the most enjoyable.

I still can't understand why Acura included this gimmick in our cars. They're not performance cars. Sport sedan? MAYBE, but hardly a vehicle that could benefit from it

You could directly apply this logic to the manual transmission as well. It's based on personal preference and giving a wider range of options to entice more buyers. Now a person who wants a manumatic and a person who wants a traditional AT can buy the exact same car in the exact same trim, the only thing that changes is where they move the lever to.

IMHO 07-08 Type S should have been MANUAL ONLY! The 5at though beefier than 04-6 still sucks in this car when in ''manual'' mode. The only THING I dislike about my type S.Great car!

Use the manual mode on my TL all the time. HAvent noticed any considerable differences in shifting, even driving back in full auto. Preference in my opinion, but definitely gotta be careful downshifting to not cause too much stress imo.

Ok Dom.

Why double clutch when you can rev-match??? Depressing the clutch twice is a waste of time. My '84 Yota 4sp is butter smooth, if you let the syncros match the revs you don't even need a clutch to up-shift smoothly. By the way, you rev-match down shifts. Lastly, unless you drive a '69 Bullet Mustang with no syncros then you may Actually need to double clutch?? Probably granny shifting too eh? Lol. Maybe you shoulda bought the auto.

And I don't get what you mean by drive a Prius? You need some funnier jokes, don't bring that garbage. At least some real jokes *smh*

I use the manual mode on my 07 when I want to accelerate quickly on the highway...ie...quick pass, or more often when slowing down on exit ramps or encountering a slow down on the highway (75 mph down to 35 mph). Allows me to stay off of the brake and get back up to speed quickly.
My car has 215,000+ miles with original transmission. Do 3 x 3 about every 30000 or when starts looking dirty and have never replaced any pressure switches.
Wish that they had put the 5 speed (OK...6 speed auto) in the TLX instead of that crap ZF9.

You use question marks more than making any sense.
Eh. Someone strapped for time as you shouldn't waste the time on extra keystrokes. Trump voter here...

Is double clutching necessary though? I understand how to do it and how it works, I rev match when downshifting in my 04 TL 6MT - but I've read conflicting things about double clutching in modern cars.

The only time I ever use "sport shift" is in parking lots, because the car loves to flip-flop between 2nd and 3rd. I hate when it grabs for a gear right as I'm letting off the gas.

I drive in manual mode all the time and my car shifts as smooth as butter through all 5 gears with my foot down on the gas.

Why do you lift off the gas pedal? It's not like there's a clutch pedal. Unless: race car.

On my 05 5AT I like to blip the throttle during downshifts when driving spiritedly (no rev matching from ECU). Do it right and it creates a smooth downshift at any RPM.

Mostly for the 5th and 6th gears which don't have synchronizers when it acts up during spirited driving. Otherwise it grinds and will most likely leave shavings in your fluid. Also to downshift from a higher gear (5th to 3rd or 2nd). Goes in like butter with no lag and no grind.
