DIY: Under hood led light

DIY: Under hood led light
Hey guys! First post, wish me luck.
I just bought a bunch of led boards from snb331 off of eBay for my interior lights. I got the recommendation from one of the other threads on this amazing site.
I was searching to see if anyone has installed these, or any other light to the underside of the hood for working at night. Either running it straight from the battery with an inline fuse and a switch mounted to the hood, or maybe a pressure switch that would depress and turn off the light automatically when the hood was closed.
Alas, I found no thread that has this info and do I figured I would create one because I think this a great form and function mod to our car.
I was just curious if anyone had done something similar to this and mainly how would the led board and switch hold up from the high heat of the engine.
Any thoughts or maybe a link to a thread I could not find would be greatly appreciated.
Glad to be aboard!

Yea that's definitely on my mind. That's why I was hoping someone had done it. My Corolla and dodge 1500 both have them do I don't see why they would not work, or why they were not put in stock

I wouldn't be surprised if they fail.
They'll work for a while, but not sure how long.

Dang it. Well my wallet hopes your wrong! Although these leds are dirt cheap. 5 bucks each so it won't be a tragedy.
I guess worse case I wear a head lamp.
So what do you all think, pressure switch or just a simple inline switch?
Pressure switch would be more ideal. any idea where to get a good one that would work in this application.
And how should I run the wire? Straight to the battery? Are there any good distribution blocks out there because I will have two relays I'm installing as well, and I want this to look as professional and done properly as possible.
Thanks!

Some links that should help you. I'm thinking about doing this as well. Personally, I'd rather have a switch right at the front of the hood.

LEDs worst enemy is heat. Hell, they need proper heatsinks THEMSELVES just to properly cool on their own and not perform light seppuku.
It's a very novel/functional idea but I can't expect longevity in underhood LEDs because they'll eventually shit the bed from all the heat in coming from the engine.
Remember heat rises, so it goes straight to the hood/where the LED's will be.
Interested to see what you come with though.

very good points sir. yea i am curious as well to see their longevity.
my rough idea is that running the wire and switch properly will be the most amount of work, and the stuff that will last. the led boards will be plug and play and easily accessible and removable.
since they are only 5 dollars a pop i figured a change every month or so wont be a terrible thing but i am hoping they will last longer than that!
