Ok guys.... for those of you using silicon to seal them up... STOP!!!

I have a much better solution. I have done about 8 sets of blacked out headlights. I've done them on WRX'S, STI's, and even a Lexus before....

Go to a motorcycle shop, and get "Liquid Gasket" it comes in a tube, if you can find the white/yellow tube you're in great shape! I got mine from the Honda shop.

It's DARK grey and goes on like liquid, VERY easily. When it dries, it's semi-firm just like the factory gasket! Plus, when you heat it up, it gets soft again, like the factory gasket!!!

This is a MUCH better way to do it, and you can go back easily and re open them... Plus, the clear silicon looks like ass if you see any of it.

Also, the liquid gasket cleans RIGHT up with "Goo Gone" if you happen to get some where you dont want it.

Just a tip...

Is that like Hondabond?

Hondabond 4
• Semi-drying liquid gasket. Seals with a tough, elastic film, yet removes easily.
• Solvent-based formula resists gasoline.
• Carded 3.5 oz. tube.

That's pretty much exactly what it is!

I got it from Honda, originally for my 600RR, but it worked SO damn good on headlights. No leaks, and you can "undo" what you did...

Does the resealing process change at all when using the Hondabond/Liquid Gasket as opposed to silicone?

How long does it take to fully dry?...and did you use clamps?

I think I'm gonna attempt this next weekend

What I did...

Once they're appart, and you're ready to go back together, lay a small bead of the liquid gasket in the groove where it seals.

Press together by hand as hard as you can.

Then RE-bake the headlight for about 5-10 minutes @ 200 again, and everything including the foactory sealant gets warm and sticky again.

Then take it out with gloves, and press as hard as you can together again, and hold for just a few minutes because it will harden fast, and you're done!

Like I said, I've done a LOT of sets guys...

Is there anyway of painting it the black pearl like the rest of the car? I think that could really help make it BEAUTIFUL. Also, is it illegal to make those yellow lights(the turn signal) white? It's still blinking, just white... anyone know? Illinois laws.
I want to make mine chrome, on my WDP

^^ If you want it color matched take it to a local paint shop and have them color match it for you... About the turn signal, you mean remove the reflector then but a white bulb?

^ You did a great job! I see you decided to paint the silver ring as well. Looks more stealthy!

When you do this mod, do you have to change the turn signal lights?? If so, what bran and type would you recommend if I wanted to clear my headlights out??

Not sure but I think you can get sylvania bulbs that light up amber(yellow) but look clear when off.... or something like that...

The bluish-white bulbs I have seem to be fine so far, I've had them for almost a year...

I bought the chrome/amber bulbs. I think pics of them are in this thread somewhere. Can't really see them when they aren't lit. And they light up bright enough to probably be OK legally

PPLAPW i'd be interested in some bright turn signal lights, are the ones you use (aside from being unreadable because it's in japanese) also okay for the fuse and wiring?

I know that some of thse "brigher" bulbs actually suck at the electricity pretty hard, and short out or burn alot of times ~ and if you got pics please post ~ i'm very interested in this.

eduble2, you can also check here:

Keyword search (7443 + chrome)

Amber/Chrome

White/Chrome

The second one is the one I've purchased. I actually haven't installed them yet, though, because I still don't have my headlights cleared out (long story).

Stupid question, but you had them installed when you took the front end shot of your car with the lights on right?

IMO it's not that bad if you take your time, although in hindsight i would have paid someone else to do it for me.

i won't tell you my whole story, because if i did you would probably be too scared to ever try this mod...long story short, i tried to rush it and screwed it up twice and ended up having to do the whole thing 3 times (over 2 weeks) before i got it right good thing is, now i can take off my front bumper and headlights in about 2 minutes flat.

also, if you screw up like me, you can find a used headlight assembly on eBay really cheap.

*important note. in between bakes, and sealing and all that stuff, leave the over door open and make sure it is ICE COLD, before you do the next light, or re-seal. somebody baked both their lights one after the other, without letting the oven cool and it melted some parts..

If your worried about baking + oven there is an alternative. NOTE: I have not used this method on my headlights, but using for other things leads me to believe it WILL work with the headlight. Go to a local hardware/tool store (Home Depot) and buy a heating gun. Lots of instant heat. Use to heat up the seal.

Like I've said I'VE not used it, but people on this forum have with success....

About being scared... don't be. Just be patient. And take your time and make sure your doing it right. If you have questions or doubts lots of us here will help you...

PPLAPW what's been up? I see you're still teaching about the lights. Did you go LED on your turn signal or did you switch to chrome/amber set-up like me? (since you did your mod I mean)
