I used an electric oven. Worked great, 20 min. at 200 no pre-heat.

That looks really good. Too bad I don't live in Portland, otherwise I would pay you to get mines done. How long did take you from start to end?? Another question is have you thought of putting superwhite bulbs for the turning signal??

I began on a Monday and finished on Wednesday. Thats because on Monday I wanted to see how easy it was to take bumper off and remove the lights, to my supprise I was able to take them off in less than an hour. I didn't purchase the paint, silicone till Wednesday and that same day I was done.

If I would have had all my stuff on Monday probably like 5 hours, 2 hours to remove, install bumper lights, and the remaider to bake, paint (between each coat I let it cure for like 15 min), and rebake......

I still don't know what to do about the turn signals. I want LEDS but I would have to buy resistors versus just a bulb. These superwhite bulbs what brand are they? I might give them try cause I'm tired of looking at the yellow stock bulb.

PPLAPW, you say you're tired of looking at the yellow stock bulb, but the stock bulb is clear... I'm curious as to what you mean by that...

I bought some silver painted bulbs which turn yellow when on, but they aren't bright enough. I also bought LEDs but haven't tried them yet, plus don't feel like doing the resistor thing. I'd love to hear of a good solution for this...

I meant when its on, its yellowish. Its clear when off....

I might just look for some bulbs, also I want to change the bulb in the side marker to white or blue. Is it a bulb or?

i wanted to do the same thing, but the side marker is actually an LED. The whole thing is just one big unit, that you have to solder if you want to change the LED. I wanted to attempt it, but after finding the DIY here, it just looked waay to complicated and time consuming, so I'm just gonna wait until someone decides to start making them for our car (if ever), or have a friend do it for me haha.

I'm actually going to do this and but a white LED or blue. I also will be putting PIAA Xtreme white or somthing like that as the turn signals....

so have we figured out if there is a bulb that is bright enough and signal yellow/orange?

Also, how weird did the headlight look before you painted the inside black? I'm thinking about doing this but want to leave the inside stock color. I only saw one pic and would like to see others. I have a black TL also.

About the bulb, I don't know. But I know that there is a bulb thats clear when off and yellow when on.

I think you mean just leaving the chrome chrome and not black right? Check this thread out.....

I say black them out if you want to be "stealth" like, or more flashy and stand out leave them chrome then...

Subinf,

This is from my experience. I might have used incorrect paint or done something wrong when I cleared and blacked out the headlights. The lights were definitely dimmer when I blacked out the headlights. I repainted with silver and cleaned the entire inner housing (I didn't bake the first time I painted so I figured fumes may cause the lights to be dimmer). The lights actually look much brighter than when I blacked out the headlights, but not necessary as bright as when they were stock. I haven't had a chance to compare them.
If you are going to do it tho, you might as well do the foreground effects and color mods for your projector (more blue color on the cut-off).

i was also scared as hell when i attempted this project, but it really isn't as bad as you think. It takes a little patience to get everything off (bumper, headlights, etc.), but once it's done you'll be pleased. If you're really scared, just buy extra silicon like what others have done to seal off the headlights when you're done. I didn't buy the extra silicone, and my headlights came out just fine.

does anyone know where the acura instructions are to install new headlights. i need to know how to get me bumper off correctly without bangin all up so i can clear my lights. i seen it in a thread here before but i dont remember where. maybe someone can just give me the stepbystep on bumper removal. is that all that needs removed is the bumper? will i be able to leave my a-spec front lip attached to the bumper when i remove it or do i need to remove the lip, then the bumper?

the link is posted in one of the clear headlight threads. Ron A scanned in the instructions from the acura manual.

Any Anthracite car with blacked headlight

Any pics of Anthracite car with blacked headlight?

Great write up, this really make me want to do it. In fact, for this whole week, the forum really and other great write up really inspire me to do a lot of mod. Before I've been 'scare' to do any mod, fear that I might mess up the car.

Now i just got to decide to clear it or blacked.

So I attempted the headlights yesterday. Mostly everything turned out right except towards the end. When I had everything installed, back inplace, I was adjusting the headlgiht beam, and something cracked. Now I have a piece of plastic in my headlight, which means I have to re-open it and do it over again. Argh!!

But, while Im at it, what silicon glue did you use PPLAW? Mine didnt seem too strong, it's some white stuff from pepboys.

use black silicone adhesive. best if used with a caulking gun (thank pplapw, that was the best advice ever). while it doesnt hurt to load up on the silicone when reinstalling the cover i think just a good bead will do the trick. the factory stuff will get gooey again with the final bake and seal up nice.

Will try that...also, my left flasher blinks really fast now. I tought it might have been a loose connection with the front left blinker bulb, but it still lights up. Only when I turn the signal on, it doesnt blink, but just stays lit up.

Could it be a loose connection, or sometihng else?

I havent checked that yet. I know for a fact the front lights up, but it doesnt flash. What would it mean if it did NOT flash? Because I think it doesnt.

Well here is the scoop. The fronts/back turn on, but when I try to signal, only the back back signals and its at a faster rate than normal. I'm thinking it might be a loose connection on the front bulb that is disabling it from blinking, but wouldn't that make it not turn on at all?

It is a double filament bulb 5W/21W. I can't tell from the wiring diagram if there is one wire or two wires going to the socket, but there probably is two, one for the parking light and one for the turn signal. Either the 21W part of the bulb blew and it is not working, or the wire came loose.

Turn on your hazard lights and see how many lights flash. This will tell you if it is only the left, or maybe the left and right.

Turn signals will usually flash faster for the bulbs that operate when one or more of the other bulbs is not working.

Until you check all the bulbs and tell us which one(s) are not operating, it will be hard to give a diagnosis.

So I've read both that painting the inside black will reduce the light output or won't. Can anyone clarify and recommend some black paint. Maybe glossy paint will keep the light intensity up whereas flat back will cut it back?
