in what world do we live in that $3000 can even be considered "too much" for a 2004 TL?
For $3000, as long as it runs and takes you from point A to point B, I'd say thats good enough lol

Very difficult to determine value without looking at the car, but on the surface $3000 seems to be a great deal, but if the car needs paint, body work, tires, brakes, clutch and/or other mechanical repairs, then there's the interior condition assessment, that low price turns into what I might say is overpriced.

You got a manual TL for $3k?! I'd just be concerned about the mismatched body panels because it was probably in a wreck. If you can fix it for less than $5k you've got a hell of a steal

Diiiirrrrrrty girl. You gets whats you pays for.
Do YOU think you overpaid? If not, what the hell does it matter what we think. We can't even see the damn car. I'm guessing you do think you overpaid, otherwise you wouldn't be asking. In that case, ha!

$3000 for a 3G TL...unless it's from a family member or sale from someone who was super desperate to get rid of the car or not know the value (ie, stories of widows of rich men who sold their hubby's cars for bargain basement prices), it's probably had a tough life.
Without pics or actual knowledge of what has happened to the car...this $3000 TL may very well be overpriced. Imagine if it had flood damage and was fixed at a backyard with elbow grease. Maybe timing belt done same way.
I've got a friend who likes to humble brag as well. Annoying as heck.

like I said before, as long as it runs and get you from point A to point B, thats good enough for $3000. Why are people worried about mismatched panels or previous accidents? for the price you CANT ask for a TL that has never been in an accident
either way, I agree OP is humble bragging

I think the OP is long gone, lol.
If you're buying an '04 TL for $3000, you're over paying.
If you're buying an '04 TL for $7000-8000, you're not over paying.
Think about it.

Honestly, I'd be shooting for the 10k range, as I believe that when it comes Hondas, you get what you pay for, but that's not to say you can't find a reasonably good TL needing some love in that price point. At 3k, I'd send it to the crusher.

yeah cause even though I had it inspected and all was well outside of the piston slap, it started to leak and leaks = bad news. so that's when I decided to just go a head and fix it. It's been fine ever since the repair was made and it no longer leaks lol... it took 8K miles for the leak to show up...

That's not a bad price overall for the car, but, just goes to show that a "cheap" car can easily double in price. If someone doesn't have the wiggle room to be able to cover a major fix, it's best to stick to cheaper cars like a civic.
A 3k civic = nothing out of the ordinary
A 3k TL = something's gonna give

Mechanic's special.. it might not be a good deal for most, but for someone, it's a great deal.

That's not even the problem. The problem is the paint is probably trashed, the interior is probably trashed, the car may have been crashed and poorly fixed, etc, etc.

Also, the interior was PERFECT. I can't stress how nice the interior is. Let me put it this way - when I sold my 05 with 65K miles, the floor mat on the drivers side had more wear than this 04 does, and it had already been good willed once. No dash cracks, no tears in the leather, it's really fantastic shape for a car with 220K+ miles.
Did I pay too much? Sure, you could say that. 220K miles, and omg so much has to be done! After a paint job and maintenance, I could have bought a car with 90K or so miles. Sure, maybe, but a 6MT is rare already, and a black on black 6MT? At least down south, that's a unicorn. Most are while or red with tan interior, not my cup of tea. But when you think about it - what REALLY needs to be done, that I wouldn't do to a car with even 80K?
Springs/shocks? Coilovers were the first thing I did - solved.
Mounts? We already know they need to be checked/replaced more often than most cars. So far, mine are acceptable, but a turbo will need new ones anyways.
Brakes? I had planned pads/rotors/lines anyways, so that's a wash.
Clutch is in great shape and transmission shifts wonderful. I did a clutch line and a new slave cylinder to do the check valve mod.
I have a turbo setup in mind, so even the miles on the engine isn't a concern. An A3 motor is $400 bucks so I'll swap one in if I ever have an issue. No built internals here.
This also allowed me to purchase the car in cash, and modfiy it as I wish. No need for a loan on a 10 year old car, or the need to buy an 07/08 for 15 to 20K. Plus, if something happens to it - meh, it was 2500 bucks.
It also let me seel the giant HOF G35 I had. I made the mistake of thinking I would ever want to drive a POS Nissan. I was at the point where I would have driven the G35 off a cliff and walked everywhere I hated that car so much, lol.

Just because it's cheap doesn't mean it's shit.
Case in point.. brosef in the 3G Ramblings thread got a 300 R/T for like $1-2k because of overrev.. guy didn't want to deal with fixing it (he works at a shop). He bought it from the guy, Either did a valve job or replaced heads.. can't remember. Then flipped it for nearly 10k.
