NUUU-B here. So I have an '06 TL and am looking at getting them cleared. I just wanted to know what my options were with the turn signals and have it explained as far as what the differences are. I understand what a switchback bulb is. What is a diffueser? What would be the difference in getting an LED versus a switchback or is that even possible? Thanks Everyone!

+1...I need to know how the whole turn signal thing works...is it illegal to have...non-orange ones?

Diffuser is the amber colored lens that goes inside the headlight and covers the turn signal reflector. TLs have the amber diffuser stock where as the 07-08 Type S model headlights had partially amber/clear diffuser.

In case of the turn signal bulb, switchbacks are the ones that run white when parking lights are on and blink amber when you turn on the turn signal.

Many people, including me, use chrome coated amber bulbs, which are just like regular bulbs they shine amber when parking or turn signal is engaged and have a chrome coating on them so they blend in nicely with the cleared or blacked out headlights.

aznbo187's headlights

Mike (aznbo187) sent his E30 headlights in for a retrofit, I rarely do a retrofit these days as it requires way more work and I usually like to have the car with me before I do the retro. The E30 headlights were in rough condition, mike had been using an HID kit in his headlights which had burned off the chrome lining from the factory halogen projectors (another reason why HID kits are a big no no). I had to shave the TSX projectors down to a bare essentials to make them fit the headlights. The front lenses are fluted as you can see and mike was ok with the fact as long as there was even slightest bit of improvement over his factory set up.

After the install I fired up the projectors and was pleasantly surprised to see that the fluted lenses didnt really blur the output that much.

Details

E30 Headlights
06 TSX projectors

I feel like a kid in a candy store when reading this thread... I'm just glad I finally found this forum and JnC Custom Headlights. I saw a TL on Quantico with blacked out led switchbacks and was like "Ahhh I have to get those!"...

Still waiting further info via email I sent so that I may add my name to your list of 06 TL's.

Another question too...
So if CCFL's are added, what additional steps would be required when I put the cleared JnC headlights on? Would I have to install a seperate switch for the CCFL's?
Thanks!

Ok, administrator only allowed me 5 minutes to edit my post but I have another question hence the reason for an additonal posting so soon...

JnC you described your lights nicely and was wondering if you had a picture that you could share showing your cleared lights with chrome bulbs.
Thanks!

I dont do tails but I think there is a DIY on the board that most people use.
Would you be sending your headlights in for the work?

^^ I use hi gloss black paint and people who have had their turn signal completely blacked out still had high reflectivity.

If I paint the fog light bulb cover black then it would not hinder the output but only give the fog light opening a blacked out look, it goes very well if you are going for a blacked out theme.

If you intend on using switchbacks then i would suggest getting Version 2 from www.v-leds.com as they tend to blink better.

^^ THe strip is chrome and the bezel that you are talking about is silver, I can paint the strip silver as well if you want that to match the bezel because getting the bezel chrome would require sending it out to a plastic chroming company.

Check the pictures above of xoulu's headlights, in case of his headlights I have painted the strip black.

I am not really sure what the DOT requirements are by the state of NJ but most states require you to have amber turn signals. If you are not getting switchbacks then i strongly suggest getting chrome coated amber turn/parking bulbs.

These bulbs look really nice in cleared/blacked out headlights yet they light up amber when parking light is turned on or turn signal is engaged. Here is what they look like, you can buy a set from ebay, search for " 7442 chrome"

in case of the V2 I leave the functional chrome part of the turn signal reflector chrome so that light can still reflect off of it. Here are some pictures of switchbacks in V1 i.e. the whole turn signal reflector is painted black. DUe to the fact that paint is hi gloss black you can still have significant amount of light reflected off of the paint.

turned off

That was the price for only one but the seller was great and he takes "best offer" so I offered slightly less and he accepted it and I also bought the ZKW lens from him and he combined shipping. All in all was just under 150 with shipping.

I have no idea either but JnC told me they were a good replacement for the fogs. Want to double check before I order them so hopefully he will see this and let me know so I can order them tonight.
