Current 1st gen TSX owner and thinking of purchasing a 3rd gen TL Type S....

Hey guys,

So I am coming from a 2006 Acura TSX automatic. I recently saw a 3rd gen Tl Type S that I am possibly interested in. Are there any known problems or concerns I should be worried about? Should I ask if certain services have been completed? I previously had a 2006 Honda Accord v6 6 speed and the transmission had issues at around 100k. Is this something I should be weary of with the TL?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

If it's a type-s or 07 08 base, the auto is pretty reliable. I would opt for a 6MT if you want to get the full potential of the 3.5L.
Inquire on the 105k tune up.

Forgot to add that the TL Type S has approximately 80k on it.

If the car was taken care of, I'd say that's low mileage.

ummmmmmmmm

buying a used car is a gamble. you'll want to know EVERY single thing that went on through its short 80k mile life.
the more you know about the car; the more comfortable you are in purchasing it.

A smart consumer is an informed consumer.

I previously had a 2006 Honda Accord v6 6 speed and the transmission had issues at around 100k.
it's likely that you caused the clutch to go out at 100k miles.
Honda's 6 speed manuals have always been VERY stout.
clutches are wear and tear items.

Thanks for the response. In regards to the Honda Accord, it was a well known and documented issue with the trannys.

I am also thinking switching from an TSX to a TL but buying an almost 7 year old car makes me think yes or no. Always liked how the 04-08 TL look.

I have both. You will find you will like the refinement of the TL and power. However you will really feel the weight of the TL over the TSX.

I've had a TSX and now have a TL and I couldn't go back. I love my 3G TL.

The type S is a pretty damn reliable car too, regardless of which transmission you go with. It's like Honda figured out many of the gremlins by the time the Type S came out. I wouldn't worry about age all too much.

Items do wear over time and wear and tear items do have to get replaced, but let's be honest, what 6-7 year old car isn't in the same boat? If it was well taken care of, it's a good buy.

They hold their value for a reason. Because people WANT them. How many people do you clamouring over a used Merc or Audi of the same age? I bet you it's a fraction.

I agree with mau108. I have a 2007 TSX and a 2008 TL-S, both automatic, both have 80K miles, both incredibly reliable. Going from the TSX to the TL you notice the weight of the TL and the larger turning circle. TSX is nimble, quick with a high revving 4 cylinder. The TL will feel huge, heavy and smoother. I love both, but very different.

ive heard the tsx is a much sportier choice (suspention). ive had a tl for 3 months it matured me up as a driver, due to gas and just the whole feel of the car. i drive much slower and with more caution. i tend to cruise more now

The TL has certainly not matured my driving, lol. I can see a 5AT calming peoples driving, as it is intended to be more of a luxury car than anything. But the 6MT, with just some basic suspension mods (even just the a-spec suspension) is a fun car.

You're right, not as nimble as a TSX, but it's an awesome DD. My fuel economy is only marginally worse than my '99 Civic SiR. And the TLs engine is double the size, in terms of displacement.

Are you a 6MT or 5AT? I'm guessing you're rolling with a 5AT- the 6MT will make you want to do bad things

Other than your 105,000 tune coming up, you'll enjoy it.

You can't go wrong with a 3g tl. If you could get the type s model. I have a 04 6 spd with 144k on the original clutch and it still grabs good. You can really feel the weight difference between the two cars but the tl just feels more smoother.

You will see the difference right away. My girlfriend has 07 TSX and I got 07 TL NAV. The cabin of the TL is more quiet when driving. The whole interior is roomier and nicer. They use better leather in the TL and seats are more comfortable. 3G TL uses real aluminium trim on the inside compare to TSX or new TL's. The only thing I hate about the TL is that the TSX has better projector lens. However, you can always get the ZKWR lenses on your TL. What you should do is to test drive one with low miles and then you decide

I'm about to possibly go through this. Bought the TSX a little over 3 years ago, now want an 07 or 08 TL Type S. Just tired of driving the manual in the TSX. I want to cruise and need something a little bigger. Anyone have an 07 or 08 in MRP in the tri-state for sale? (Must be auto… When I want to drive a manual, I can pull the NSX out of the garage to satisfy that urge..)
