I am looking into purchasing a 07 Type S. I found a nice one on Ebay in NJ with only 79k miles. Anyway, I recently noticed after looking at the pics again that this Type S does NOT have the Decklid spoiler! Correct me if I am wrong, but did not all Type S TLs come with a decklid spoiler standard???!!!

Just wanted to add that it definately is a true Type S considering all the pictures I have seen and I checked the VIN # including the Carfax, so it is legit.

No I didnt answer it, just confirmed it was actually a Type S for those that might question it. Still want to know if there is a reason it does not have a rear decklid spoiler!?

Could be lots of reasons why it's not there. Was damaged, trunk was replaced, or forcibly removed or stolen.
Post the link for the ad and your fellow AZ members can critique the car and potentially identify what happened or why it's not there.

The answer is simple. That Type S was most likely involved in an accident, and it was cheaply repaired using a non Type S trunk lid, thus no deck lid spoiler. They didn't just forget to put it on because there would be holes and a clip or bolt or two. It's not just something that's glued in place.
We see this shoddy work all the time. You see Type S's with base TL front bumpers somewhat often too.
To me I wouldn't pursue that Type S as it clearly has some sort of story and/or accident history. Plus, looks dumb without the spoiler.

I would never put a bid on a car I haven't seen in person yet. Also, a Type S missing the deck lid spoiler is a red flag to me.

Ok, thanks for the replies guys! I did contact the seller but he hasnt replied yet, i wonder why?!?! I mean, why the hell would you not replace the trunk with the correct one and not have a decklid spoiler!?!

Same reason like I said above that you see Type S's with base model front bumpers fairly often. Because the repairing shop is trying to cut corners and save money, or they are literally too stupid and order wrong parts. Personally, don't even bother messaging the seller. Its clearly the wrong trunk lid, meaning its been involved in a crash.

Ok guys, the seller has replied!! He said the decklid spoiler got stolen and rather than take another chance, he just replaced the trunk without the spoiler! So that makes sense I guess! I mean he does live in Jersey! Lol! So what do yall think??!!

Take a good look at the paint color match too. Silver isn't the easiest to match to begin with and if he simply swapped it out from another car it may not match that well although you could get lucky. And the vin is on stickers.

Ok thank you! So if thats the only issue, do you think it is a good deal for the miles it has and the shape its in, considering it has no other problems?!

check out the car.
I learned that when you are in a rush; you tend to get shitty deals.
if you're not comfortable checking out the car; pay for a pre-purchase inspection.
we just cant say; yes, its a good deal or not....
ESPECIALLY over the internet.
there might be hidden issues that we simply cannot see or hear or feel.

Even though the story might be legit, to me that's just weird. So not only did he degrade the look of his Type S, but he spent waaaayyy more money on purchasing an entire trunk lid. Also, one other thing is you can't just take the spoiler off without breaking it as its bolted to the deck lid (if I remember correctly). So unless the person broke into the car and was able to open the trunk, then the person stole a broken lip spoiler lol.

my deck lip spoiler was stolen and the dealer wanted 800$ to replace it. i love my car but i would never replace the spoiler at such a huge price. my first car was purchased for 800$..

That $800 was the part cost or all in including labor to install. I honestly haven't looked but I'd imagine you could replace/install the spoiler for a whole lot less than $800.

OP, you said you ran the carfax to verify it was a true Type-S, correct? Was there any accidents or insurance claims on the carfax? If not, and if it was in an accident, the owner obviously paid out of pocket to fix it, which in mind means *if* it was hit, it was minor damage. Most people aren't going to drop 5k out of pocket to fix a car just to have a clean title.
Also, if it was in a decent size collision, I dont see why the previous owner would replace the tail lights but not a trunk lid spoiler. You can get ebay ones that look identical for a fraction of the price and no one would be the wiser.

Yes. I removed one on a previous Type S once and if I remember correctly there was two small bolts and also two plastic push clips. Again, I can't recall exactly, but I'm almost 100% sure it's not double sided taped on.

That just means nothing was publicly reported. Unfortunately it does not officially mean it wasn't in an accident.
My brother works in the insurance industry and has pretty much seen it all. He is a fraud investigator.

So I know this is a bit off subject, but I am having a hard time deciding between Carbon Bronze Pearl, Nighthawk Black Pearl or the Alabaster Silver Metallic Type S. I am leaning more towards the CBP. Any suggestions or comments?

Color selection is totally subjective, so I'm sure you will get all sorts of opinions. I have the NBP and when clean it is very, very sharp. But being black it does show a lot of the dirt.
I always thought the CBP looked very good and to me Silver in general is kind of bland.
Also with the rarity of the the Type S, deciding on a color before finding one is going to make your task that much more difficult.

Like I said earlier, most people won't pay 5k out of pocket to fix a car just to have a clean record. But most is not all. I've seen some shady shit too in my time

Agreed^^^ I leave myself open to any color. If I find the perfect car I would consider anything.
To the OP, as far as color like others have said that's all personal preference, but all I can tell you is black (NBP), and silver (ASM) are the two most common Type S colors. Not a bad thing by any means, just something worth noting. CBP is a great color on the Type S as the color goes really well with the dark gray Type S accent colors...like the wheels, tail lights, smoked marker lenses etc etc. I have owned both CBP and NBP and they are both bad ass. If I have to choose right now, I would go CBP though.
