Exclamation Car Was Smoking

Hey guys,

While hunting for a parking space in Queens last week (drove down from MA to see my girl) after 3 hours of driving I noticed that the car was smoking. I suspected that it was the power steering hose that I hadn't had replaced (safety recall notices). The acrid smell of burning power steering fluid gave me a clue. At this point I start envisioning my '04 6MT going up in flames so I take any parking spot.

The next day I call Paragon Acura to make an appointment for the power steering hose safety recall. The give me a 7:15AM slot the following day!

They were excellent! They fixed the PS hose and the windshield wiper motor recall and even gave me a free car wash voucher.

A happy ending considering what the outcome could have been. And the icing on the cake is that Paragon is only 10 minutes from where I'm staying vs 2.5 hours away to Auburn Acura from where I live in MA!

So if you haven't already done so, I highly recommend getting those safety recall items fixed. Plus, they're free!

good call. definitely best to get the power steering hose recall done right away. As our cars get older, it seems like more and more of these hoses are failing

I've got an 2006 6MT and had the hose replaced shortly after the recall was released.

The PS hose recall was for every 3G TL.

The one on my '05 TL was replaced per the recall in '08, just before Acura updated the recall to include the '07-'08 models, IIRC.

I've had my engine bay catch fire. Fortunately it was at a shop and they were testing the leak by moving the steering wheel lock to lock.

Had issues with the car smoking really bad from the engine bay when parallel parking. Drove around like that for a week fortunately I didn't set the thing on fire

Best guess is #14; 53734-SEP-A01 Hose, Power Steering Return ; Lower Return Hose on the link below:
P.S. Lines - 2004 Acura TL 4 Door BASE (NAVIGATION) KA 5AT (acurapartswarehouse.com)
Search rockauto, they should have it if the stealership does not.

Thanks. Anyone know how difficult it would be to replace? Accesing from the passenger wheel area you don't see a whole lot of the hose and wondering where best place to access from.

I remember it was not easy. The access from bottom and down was required. I believe the worst part was the fact that rear engine mount needed to be removed as the line was going "through" it.
