Buying an Acura TL ('07)
After being on here for over an year now, i can finally afford an my dream car.
I went to test drive this 07 TL yesterday and would like you guys guys input.
First of all, i had a TPMS error on the MID which could means a few things but i'm guessing maybe the batter died?
Secondly, it feels it shifts a little rough, i don't know if that's normal or not but i plan to do a tranny 3x3 drain and fill on any TL i buy.
Here is the link to the car

Make the dealer fix all those things prior to buying

from a retail standpoint that is a very low price. I would expect at 68k miles to be closer to $13500. What does the carfax say? 105k service is due because of age also and not due to mileage so keep that in mind that you may be in for major maintenance after you purchase the car.

It has a clean, two-owner CARFAX, with lots of service history from the previous owners. I would take it to a local Acura dealership and see what they say about the TPMS sensors.

the TPMS error should be minor. could be a bad senor

Thanks for all the help guys! i love the this website so much! I talked with the dealer and he say he could fix it but it would take sometime and he's willing to shave off $500 off the price to help with the TPMS issue if i want the car now.
BTW is the tranny ok or i should be worried?
I know. I've have been reading on here every single day the past year so i know when i'm getting and i'm already prepared.

Describe the rough shifting. THAT should be your concern with this car. The TPMS is minor.

^^ yup, we need more info on shifting. The 3g TL's shifting isn't the smoothest anyways but it should not be rough. You can check the tranny fluid level with the dipstick and the color of the fluid at the same time. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature, take it for a spin and than look for any oil/coolant smells inside the engine bay.
Another thing that I would do is put it in manual and hold it at 1st gear at around 5-6k rpms for 10 - 20 seconds and see if any CELs come up. I had that issue with random misfire and CEL would always pop out when I did that.
One last thing that you can do is to go to Menu on the Nav and go to Messages - It will tell you all current CEL's and error messages regarding the car, unless they were cleared using professional scanner or through hidden NAV options (you can't remove these with the cheap OBDII scanner).

I think you've identified the key one - jolts when the transmission shifts, especially when it's cold. What service has been done on the transmission? At the very least, it should have had its fluid replaced. At best, it's had pressure switches replaced.
Funny how the TL's price has stabilized at a roughly $10k level. I bought my 2005 TL with 75k miles 5 years ago for $12.5k. I recommend the TL often to friends/family looking for their next car...

What do you guys think about this 08 Type S? its on the high mileage side with a $110K but it has really good maintenance history with being serviced at an Acura/Honda dealer between the 2 owners. Links below

Records and pictures look good. Some people are reporting as high as 300,000 miles on type-S platforms, and similar stories for the base models. 110k on a well cared for TL is still early days - just graduating college and looking for that exciting first job.

I went to test drive the type S today and if feels a bit sluggish and have an high idle plus it vibrates a bit when switching between gears. On top of all that its displaying service soon with B1235, the trunk doesn't open and there is two rips in the back seat. Although the dealer said they would do all the service if I dicided to take the car. Including changing and the seat and fixing the trunk.
Before I made my decision, I took the 07 base for another test drive (they said they fix the issue i complain about) and its shifts so smooth now and the TPMS is working properly.
I ended up choosing the 07 base because of much lower miles plus it feels much better driving/idling. Picking it up on Monday after a full detail and a few more check ups to make sure everything is good. Thanks for all the help guys!!

I would stay away from that dealer. They are nothing but bad service. Most of the cars are hacked up. I've had family and friends buy cars from them and nothing but headaches. I used to live in Seymour but I bought a house in waterbury now. The decision is totally up to but I'm just giving you my knowledge about the dealer. They are very shady.
