Was kind of bored so I just took a couple cool pics of the gauges. One is with the gauges off to get an idea of how dark it gets. Its not completely black, but with the flash you can sort of see what I mean about the brushed aluminum looking ring.

P.S. I had no intentions of showing off my bad ass steering wheel in these pics I swear. heheh :-P

Ok, here's a question. Is it worth the extra $$ to get the Type-S vs Base?

How much is that planted into your seat feeling worth?

I bought a 06 base TL for 7500....a 07/08 TL-S is probably gonna run me close to double that amount....not sure if it's worth the extra cost. What do people think.

It all depends on the individual. To me yes it is worth it. My first TL ever was an 07 base/nav. I regretted the purchase only a week after buying it and couldn't stop thinking about the Type S. Traded it for a Type S and never looked back. For you it would be more than just going from base to Type S, but you would be going from the older 04-06 style to the updated 07-08 which has a lot of changes in itself.

Same here, I purchased 2 different bases and still wanted Type S. Do whatever you can to get the big dog!! Absolutely. I had an 06 base and then an 07 base and even with buying the 07 base I still wanted the Type S. Hands down, get a Type S, to me the difference is night and day and I hate driving the base now. Same as said above, if you don't get the Type S you just keep thinking about having one...

I will say this though... my Type S has the darker wheels on it... If I really would have studied up before, I would have looked for one with the lighter wheels...but you might like the darker ones, just make sure. And I probably would have kept looking for a KBP... every time I see one I drool! And there is the issue of trying to find a MT vs. an AT... I went AT because it is a family car and I drive in rush hour traffic every day.

That looks really good in that perspective actually. Aside from the focus issue there lol. Why is the air bag cracked?

Yeah I took those pics using my Canon DSLR and couldn't get it to focus on the gauges, but I actually liked how the pics turned out so I still posted them. As for the airbag outline I dont know what to tell ya except that sometimes you see things in high quality DSLR photos that you don't see in person. Sitting inside the car you see no line whatsoever. Weird how that works isnt it?
Here is a picture I took when I had the wheel out of the car to swap to my new custom wheel. here you can see that there is no outline whatsoever.

Damn, you guys really made me want a Type-S now.
It's hard to find a 6MT Type-S without a premium price.
It was hard to find a base 6MT as it is here in Toronto.
Plus I dumped a few grand on maintenance on this one already that was immaculate except for the high mileage. I go overboard with maintenance. Will definitely pick one up in the next 2 or 3 years thanks to this thread :p

Dallas custom wheels. Originally heard of the place from here on the forums. It's amazing and gives the interior an entire new look and feel and believe it or not its a new driving experience. You don't realize just how thin the OEM one is until you have one of these.

Dang it, man you all are making me wanting a Type-S now just a couple months I bought my first TL!!! I upgraded from a 95 Accord so the jump is huge already.

Maybe in a couple of years I'll get into the market for a 07/08 Type-S. Since at that time I would have a significantly higher income than I currently am having so would justify upgrading.

Back on 08 when I was in the market for a car, (used to have a 2001 Acura CL) I had driven a few Base model TL while my CL was in for service and for some reason that car didn't speak to me. A friend of my cousin had a 2004 TL A-Spec (suspension + body) and I really liked it, so I was quite disappointed that the base TL and I didn't bond. One lucky day I decided to try a TypeS. I loved it immediately. It's surprising how just a few small tweaks here and there made such a difference. Plus I like the interior and exterior appearance a lot more.
Bottom line is that I do not regret at ALL getting my 08 TypeS. I guess I should have gotten the KBP, but the wife wasn't a huge fan of the blue so Silver it was. (Actually I wanted white, but they were no longer making stickshifts, so I had to settle for silver if I wanted 6MT).

Anyways, since people here seem to into the whole 6spd thing, I'll probably post it here before I replace it. I'd rather it go to a good home than at the auctions... It's always been garage kept and at work it's in covered parking.

2 years ago I was close to owning a 08 type-s but because of work projects it prevented me travel and pick up out-of-state. my goal was to pick up a 'fun car'

Then decided to purchase AP2 S2000 as my daily driver for 1.5 years. Yea.. the whole stick shifting during rush hour commute and bumpy roads wasn't cutting it. But I totally do not regret owning it.

Everytime I saw a Type-s on the road, it yearned me get one again. just something about the exterior styling that is not outdated in my mind. So I started shopping around. I was clocking miles on my S2000 too quick and I knew i wanted to preserve the car for as long as possible especially since investing a bit of money to keep it maintained and knowing its past history

Base vs Type-s: Initially, my friend 06 TL is what intrigued me about the car. everything about the car inspired me and appreciated its sport comfort. What acura did with type-s is more than few cosmetics changes. They upgraded everything from bigger engine, to powertrain cooling (i.e. power steering, transmission), to more powerful brakes, better suspension to compete best as possible against 5 series BMW at the time.

While for everyday driving, the difference in feel and handling is MINIMAL compared to 06 TL, for me its nice knowing I don't have to splurge and upgrade components. Everything is there for me to satisfy as it is

Now I think I have best of both world. 8k rpm fun revin' engine/best 6spd shifter ever made/rear wheel/ 50-50 weight distributed/ convertible for the weekend driving fun and a sporty comfort automatic for commuting to work .

I forget the exact amount, but the steering wheel I believe was somewhere in the 400 range. I wanna say $460 for the exact setup I did with the perforated leather on the sides and thicker padding. I also got the center console done as well and that was like $200. So total was in the $600's and don't regret it at all. Just being in the car makes it feel like a higher quality and driving feels awesome.

Yeah I will add a picture here. I dont want to thread jack more than I already have so I might start working on a progress thread in the photo gallery. If I do I will link ya to it.

Yeah I thought about doing a progress thread, but never got to it. Like you said its pretty much stock with the exception of the steering wheel and console lid, V3 Triton front/back, rear RDX caliper covers, 35% tint, and OEM carbon fiber center console overlay. Maybe I will work on a progress thread, although these days there would be nothing to update as she just sits in the garage hooked up to the battery tender lol. Most of my time now (during winter) goes to the Grand Cherokee Overland which I find myself tinkering with.

The console looks very similar to stock with the exception of a higher quality leather and much more padding. Hard to tell in this pic unless you compare side by side, but its nice.

If I could find a place here in Miami that could make my steering wheel look like that, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I'll just post this , I've enjoyed this thread, my 08 TL type S with Aspec kit is no family car! It's a 6 speed that has the cats removed and replaced with high flow / 3rd cat is deleted with j pipe. It's not only got the sick lookin Aspec kit , but nicely llumar tinted windows as well. There is no way a Types S manual is a family car! My family rides in the Honda CRV Ex-L.

Difference I’ve noticed between the type-S and base so far as driving feel is that base has softer suspension, car sits .5” taller. It’s noticeable that the base sits higher as your driving. The seats are not as bolstered in the base. The base has blue interior lighting while Type-S has red. The wheels are .5” wider each, so the traction is slightly better. The steering wheel in the base is all leather without foam underneath, type S uses different leather and foam for steering wheel. The base exhaust uses 900 cell catalytic converters, typeS uses 600 cell.

The 6mt starter sounds very Honda Civic. While the 5AT has a proper V6 starter sound.

My blinker on the 5AT seems to be not as crisp as the Type S, it shifts with quality, but differently. Imagine a stock 6MT shift vs. a 6MT with shortshifter. It’s something like that.

I wonder if this is due to age? Are they the same part #?

The starter is the biggest thing to me!

I almost wanted to see if I could grt an OEM 2004-06 starter on my 08 base when I had it, and if I get another, I may consider trying it... May have to rebuild an 07-08 starter with 04-06 internals to bolt up to the RL tranny...

I’m not sure how it sounds I. The base MT, but compared to my 08 base, it’s sounds rather gutless. I like it, feels like the engine is light when it’s spinning the flywheel.

When I was shopping for cars I kept reading about torque steer and how awful it was on the TL. I bought an 08 base NAV, and I don’t often have torque steer issues no matter what speed I floor it from. Is it noticeably worse in the type-s?
Also, what tires do you run on the type-s and do you run the same set on your base as well?
thanks

The starter on my 07 type-s 6mt does sound very Honda civic like lol.
Its not so bad if you have a decent muffler sound to compliment it.
But it does sound like the car is trying harder than it should to turn over.....

I hated the quiet starter on my 08 base. It sounded like a Dodge.

Watch a YouTube video on a 2004-06 TL auto tranny! Hear that starter!!! ❤

0:25 seconds in you hear an auto 2008 Base start up. It’s muffled compared to that manual.
