Base TL vs. Type S TL

No this is not a post looking for everyone's opinion on which one to get... I currently own an '07 ASM Base and an '08 NBP Type S - both autos. Just wanted to open up a thread for anyone who wanted some direct answers from someone who has both sitting in his driveway. So if anyone has any questions regarding the two and differences I experience - have at it.

What are the main differences? I know the Type S has a special badge on the back.

Real question here. How much faster is the Type s? Can you feel a noticeable different ? Acceleration?

I assume there both stock

They are both stock, yes. I do feel a noticeable difference in acceleration and torque in the Type S. Second gear seems to be the most different, the Type S plants me in the seat a lot firmer than the base. I have heard people say they can't tell a difference, but I can say that I certainly can.

Turn off the traction control on both, do a couple of WOT runs and then come back and report, assuming one isn't loaded with crap in the trunk vs the other.

How about a couple pics side by side?

I am no expert on the TL since i am in the infiniti community but the TL is less of a car then the Type S. I am sure the suspension would be better since there is higher performance. The extra 28HP that the Type S has, you should be able to feel a little difference but the quarter mile times will be very close. If it's like Infiniti comparing the base model to the sport. The sport G does have stiffer suspension then the base. I do hope that is the same for the Type S

And I came from a '06 TSX 6MT....(and have had 2 Preludes 5MT when I was a little bit younger.. '93 VTEC and '99 VTEC both H22A's, built) I hated leaving my manuals but I am old loser now with 2 kids and all I do is drive back and forth to work and to the babysitter's to get the kid... the daily driver MT just didn't make sense anymore. Hopefully soon will be able to get a MT for weekend/pleasure driving

Hey, I own an 05 AT and my brother owns an 07 type-s AT. I find it weird that my 05 cranks a lot before it turns on (new battery+spark plugs recently), but my brother's type-s starts instantly after you push the key. Do you have this too? Maybe it's the difference the year of the cars in my case though..

To clarify: my 05 takes a full second to start so it's not that big of a deal

the 07-08's have this thing called auto start.
you turn the key once, and the starter will take over until the car starts.

the 04-06's DID NOT have this feature.

Just an added note about the easy start feature on the 07/08's, it is only on the automatic versions. I have tried it on my manual Type S's and does not do it.

Glad you said that, because mine never had the feature work. As soon as I let go of the key, it stops spinning.

hmmm??? They are both key ignitions... I think you are thinking of the RL - they have the keyless with the push button. But my wife did spend a good 30 seconds one morning trying to unlock the base with the Type S fob. It's weird the Type S fob didn't come with any specific badging on it I think.

she did go a bit sideways there.... Happy to do some field research on the idles and will report back. FYI I picked up the Type S with 80k miles and she idled pretty rough. Changed plugs right away and now she purrs like a kitty. Fresh plugs really did make a big difference.

OP still hasn't mentioned how much faster 6MT base is against the 5AT type S. Is this thread supposed to clarify that the engine cover shows 3.5 instead of 3.2? Or the Gauges being red instead of blue? What information do you have specifically that we can ask? I ask a legitimate question and you have your body gaurd come in here with some weird responses.

How can he? he doesn't have a 6mt! he stated both are AUTOS. Besides, 07/08 base models weren't available in manual. So if he was to run his vehicles it would be a 5at base vs 5at Type S.

Ugh, I knew I should have run these two cars while I had them at the same time. 5at Type S vs 6mt Type S
