2 months (4k mile) review on my '07 Type-S 5AT
I've now had my 07 type-S for about two months and I absolutely love it. Bone stock except injen intake. I've already put 4k miles in just less than 2 months and all I've done was oil change and drain and fill on tranny fluid. I bought it when it had 126k and now it has 130k.
Couple of minor issues I have:
1. the computer tells me to tighten up fuel cap every now and then.
2. Touchy brakes (which is fine)
Number 3 is what bothers me the most
3. Down shifting is pretty abrupt (even though I am already braking) and it does engine brake on its own.
I've previously leased gen 4 TL 2012 tech for one year and a half before I traded it in. It's hard to tell which one I like better because I like them both. My only concern in the future would be tranny but I'm hoping it'd last 3-4 more years.
I'm trying upload some pics but couldn't figure it out I'm using my ipad.

The firm downshifts when decelerating are unfortunately a normal trait of the Type S automatic transmission. It annoyed me from time to time, but I fixed that problem by buying a 6mt this time :-)
As for the mod, I would ditch that injen thing and run oem as it flows just as good and actually is a ram air design, and has protection against sucking up water. That's just me though.
I haven't experienced the tighten fuel cap thing, but maybe that's a simple fix by getting a new cap I'm not sure.
As for brakes I'm not sure. There is no telling what brand pads and rotors are in there. I like the oem brembo pads and rotors myself, they seem to feel perfect at all times and I have to noticed them being overly touchy.

the tighten fuel cap is a common problem. There's a TSB for it, and it calls for replacing the purge control valve. Dealership may cover part of the cost if your mileage isn't too high but if you do it yourself it's super easy

Your trany will be fine, harsh down shifting isn't a problem with me no more since I move from hill side country to flat land tx now. About the gas cap it's actually the purge valve it cost $87 online and 10 mins of your time.

I get harsh downshifts regardless of incline. Letting off gas pedal and slowing down I can feel the downshifts.
It's basically like you're driving a manual and downshifting but not rev-matching, so you kind of lurch forward abruptly.
Don't know if this is normal....

^^^ yeah the harsh downshifts occur regardless if you are on an incline or not. I have had multiple automatic Type S's and all did it exactly the same. Basically every single downshift when slowing was firm.

Get 3x3 done and that down shift will be smoother.

I have a base 08 TL, I get the harsh downshifts as well...the trannys in the 07 & 08 TLs are fine...just do the recommended maintenance and you'll be fine. And yes...it does "engine brake" somewhat.

Well the Type S isn't my daily driver so that probably won't happen. I have a Grand Cherokee that I use most of the time. That way when I do drive the Type S it's like having a new car everytime I drive it :-) mileage wise she's still in the low teens. Like 07silverTLS I'm too anal, and as long as I have that car it's gonna be a low mileage nice weather driver.

No I am not first owner. There is a little bit of history behind the car as it was owned by Honda Corporate offices in CT. It spent it's life indoors and literally never driven. It had 1200 miles on the odo in 2012 (late 06 in service date). After corporate no longer keeps a car they auction them to employees. I bought it from the employee last year with 4900 miles. Being the color that it is and the tranny I had to buy it, and I even had a Type S already lol. Lovin every minute of this car!
