'05 TL 6spd-should I pull the trigger..

05 TL 6mt with155k miles.

Second owner. Seller states car need power steering pump how much would it be for this job and how can I check to make sure it's indeed the power steering pump?

Seller wants 45 I talked him down to 3700 without even seeing the car should I consider going and checking it out over the weekend when I get back from vacation and what exactly should I look for other than third gear grind.

I know basics of checking a car before buying but is there anything I should really look at to make sure it's good deal. And like above how can I tell it's intact the power steering pump and how much should it be to replace.

Thanks you guys are the best.

I belive it's going to need a rebuild / new pump. The owner said he brought it to a dealer and they said it needs a new pump. He says there's no power steering at all when parked or at a stand still but when you drive it's easy to turn. In my assumption there's no power steering at all.

or there's a leak.. or it's low on fluid.. it could be tons of things. You'll have to visually inspect for yourself.

Check the power steering rack boots for leaks. That labor is expensive.

I had this same exact issue, it was the power steering pump. Mine was leaking too, it's not too expensive.

Labor shouldn't be more than 2 hours.

Thanks for the replies guys. I actually can't wait to get a TL. Also this community is great. Nothing but cool helpful people here I'm loving it here..

The seller has been straight forward I asked him for the VIN and the car comes up with no recalls he just got the power steering recall done.

I asked him if the timing belt was done he said the lady he purchase the car from says she did it he got it at 132k miles and it's now at 155k when he bring it in for the power steering to be looked at from the dealer he told me the dealer said the timing belt was never done. Do you think it was done and maybe the dealer is trying to be a stealer?

Is there any possible way I can see if the car had its timing belt done etc? If not I don't mind getting it done around what could be that labor cost with parts for the overhaul like timing belt , water pump, thermostat etc the must needed stuff to get another 100k.

I have a PS pump off my 2005 AT part out. Let me know if you are interested in the used pump. Worked well when I drove it around before the trans blew.

To be sure, a 6MT TL is a rare thing indeed.... If you're set on a manual, I would just take it? Is the body in good shape? Also, the power steering issue could be just the low-pressure side seal.

Take care.

a 12 year old car is going to start having issues (if not so already) due to age....I would not consider a car that old unless it was for a new driver or you got such a deal on it that when you fix everything wrong, you don't have anything more into it than what it is worth.

I bought a 2003 Legacy in 2014 and I have had to fix a few suspension parts due to age in addition to resealing the engine. In the end it was worth it cause the car had only 62K on it when I got it. Now 3 years later it is at 110K. Other age related repairs were both rad hoses, A/C Schroeder valves, passenger side axle, and headlights (yellowed out). I also had to put a right front wheel bearing in it.
