Temecula to Sacramento averaged pretty good mpg. Calculated by hand it was 35.5 though with few different rest room stops going 64mph

Whoop there it is! I was trying to do a good mpg run today. I drove 70 miles one way and got 30mpg doing about 75mph. On the way back it came down to 28mpg because I was in more of a hurry to get home than to get to work

My former '89 Accord SE-i averaged close to 41 on a long highway trip once upon a time.
hen you lock in 60 - 65 MPH with the cruise control, these small miracles tend to happen.

I have no tolerance to lock in sub-70mph speeds for that kind of distance...hence the reason I never get that kind of MPG.

Based on all of the MPG threads over the years, we all know (well...those of us that have been around for a while) what they are and are not capable of. A steady 45-55mph will yield mid to upper 30s easily. 65mph should get you right around the 30mpg mark. And as you go up in speed, it starts dropping. Pure highway with no stops and no hard acceleration, the numbers stay high. Get into stop and go or have a lead foot, expect it to drop quickly. Do nothing but drive in the city and expect to be in the high teens or low 20s.

And of course, there are gobs of other variables that will shift those numbers up and down....engine, transmission, driving style, gas blend, tires, tire pressure, maintenance, driving style, solar flares, moon phase, wind speeds, altitude, and plenty of other things.

Seven years ago while driving on a 5 hour trip, I had some pretty awesome MPG. I'm a 2004 6MT, at that time I was lowered, on 19 inch wheels, A-spec kit, comptech cat back system and an Injen CAI. It was about early spring time. This is what I was averaging.

Normally I average about 30-35 on the highway, all depending on weather and driving habits.
These were taken on a short drive, pretty much on the highway cruising and getting right off the highway. This was when I had become boosted with many more modifications. If I keep out of boost, I can nail a bit better MPG vs when I wasn't boosted.

I normally don't take the TL out for long drives. It's usually very local at most 15-30 mile round trip and that's once in a blue moon. My local MPG rating varies very much. If I drive calm, shift early, they tend to be in the low 20's maybe even at 25.

Temecula (~1,000ft elevation) to Sacramento (~30ft elevation) ... clearly downhill all the way uh, er... except for that 4,000ft hump you have to get over on 5 north of LA. Assuming you went that way.

I too often ruin my highway MPG by doing some random downshift blast around someone. My wife always just stares at me wondering WTF that was about.....my response...I was bored and just wanted to.

Mine averaged 41 for about 80 miles once, although I believe it was mostly downhill.

At 55-60 mph in my V6 Accord, I got similar mileage...my son and I were driving to Arizona. Me in my car, he in his Prelude. He lost 4th gear (4AT) so we had to limit our speeds to 60 or so to keep him from revving his motor too high for the last several hundred miles. I thought my trip computer was off but when I did the math, I got 34.7 mpg and 35.8 mpg. On the way home, was closer to the legal 75 and 80 mph limits and got high 20s to about 30 mpg.
