be careful with modded ones.
when you mod or deviate away from stock, reliability goes down.

it's slammed. there might be a whole lot of kinks and or glitches or quirks that the vehicle has...
for example, being that low will cause the upper control arms to slam up against the upper shock body mount. etc.

and wtf that's not a type-s either! its an 04

Yeah i know lol.. He doesn't really claim it is LOL

Also look at the engine top right configuration between that 04 and "07" they look different, can you even install an 07 config across the board like that on a 04-06 engine area?

This is why I made the thread, prices look pretty good imo.. Need the communities advice. I've been in contact with the 04 type S dude and the Staten Island A-Spec 05

I can understand why someone might have wanted to downgrade to an 06 look because I don't particularly like the 07-08 look on the car. I wouldn't have touched the steering wheel and obviously the cluster... I can't tell what cluster it has.

to me, the dead give away is EVERYTHING ON the car is 04-06.
now, why would some one do that?
why would one swap both bumpers, tail lights, mirrors, wheels, and head lights.
that's over 4 grand to do all of that stuff.

while its a simple free - 50 dollar part to switch out the engine cover.

Absolutely stay away from that base 07. There is no telling anything about that car. It appears to have 04-06 everything, but then upon closer inspection it has an 07/08 gauge cluster. Steering wheel and all are 04-06 and everything exterior is. Why you would even inquire about that car is beyond me.

Now that I looked at all the links, stay away from all those cars.

Put it this way, someone does not remove perfectly good 07/08 bumpers to put an older 04-06 one on. I can understand maybe the wheels or taillights thing, but no way would someone spend that kind of money to downgrade to the older style bumpers. My opinion, that thing has likely been in multiple accidents and put back together using the cheapest and most readily available parts.

I completely agree with this 100%! I wouldn't spend your money on that. It sounds too fishy!

I think you all fail to realize that the majority of CL sellers are what we refer to as "dumb" or "mentally challenged". The seller most likely has no idea what year the car is and posted what they "think" or remember it to be.

Looking at those links makes me sad about how affordable these cars have become. Every single one looks sketchy, neglected or badly modded. Keep looking op.

The '04 tl had a swapped cluster and steering wheel (tls), full type s exterior. I think he had a problem with the right suspension and had to do things to the engine, sidemarkers burned out in the front, one of the speakers was crackling, exterior paint in general was fine but yeah wasn't going to buy that car after seeing the cluster changed and the other issues.. Pretty honest guy he was straight.

Car was dropped on D2 pretty low with brand new tires.

It was my first time riding a 3g tl and even though the car was like it was I can tell you that I am love with it and hope to find one in excellent condition. I love the car, I'm pretty shocked..

First step up would be autotrader.com or cars.com. And if you find one you're serious about you might consider carchex.com or some mechanic to inspect it.

You just need time and patience. I found a quite clean, 1-owner, fully dealer maintained 06 TL for a good price (navi is broke).

Those cars definitely have red flags. At the least you need to buy a month worth of carfax and run the VINs through to check for salvage/rebuilt title.

But autotrader is another good site I've liked. Otherrwise CL is good place you just need to be careful of the beatup cars and take your time.

I know craigslist can absolutely have some shady people and items for sale no doubt....but its also a great tool for finding incredible deals...and selling some of your own items without having to deal with the ridiculous ebay fees. My 5,000 mile MRP/ebony 6mt Type S was originally only listed on craigslist.

thats an immediate red light my friend! i just got on these forums and even i, myself know that the first car is all 04-06 design. Like they said who is going to convert backwards style on a car? if thats the case they would have just got a 2004-2006 TL. Just be careful! run vin checks and everything on the cars, dont take peoples word for what they tell you about the car. Do your research and be careful!

the base TL is pretty nice! but since some guy on the forums just made a post about getting "PLAYED" on his TLS purchase by a guy on craigslist....make sure you are EXTRA careful with any transaction you pursue.

Get your own carfax and document everything!
