If you are adding a fuse, you only need to worry about the load that that fuse will see. If there were a short, it would blow your added fuse, not the 30amp on the seat. You're also tagging on a small load on the bigger one.

If you had been adding a bigger load to a smaller amperage fuse. You'll just fry it when all is being used at once. If you go to too big of a fuse, you'll allow too much amperage through a presumably too small cored wired and you may melt the insulation off of it/fire hazard.

Does that make sense?

Ohh so the add on itself can only handle 10 amp on top of what its connecting too not 10amp total!

well, you have to think about your source and what you're tapping into.
You don't want to go HUGE load tagged onto a small wire source.
But you're adding a small load to a big amp wire already. You're good.

If it makes you feel safer, I have the add-a-fuse that's rated for 10A too, and I've had the footwells for a while now with no problems.

Just an FYI, you might want to make a note that this DIY (at least in the form shown) won't really work for 6MT owners.

I tried this today and found that access to the 5 pin connector is almost completely blocked by the clutch assembly. So unless you take a lot of stuff apart or you have the hands of a Chinese child, there is no way to get to the dome supervisor wire from under the dash.

My LED strips and illuminated Acura door sills are activated by a ground sided switch. I tapped into a constant 12v and used the ground on the door pin switch because it's normally open when the door is closed. When you open the door the circuit is completed and you get power to light up the LED strips. That might be a better option for you

#4, 10A, in engine bay

It's a little more complicated, since you want it to open with the doors, AND turn on when the low beams/parking light us on.

I'm sure there's a easy method for it though.

YOU SIR, ARE CORRECT!

I'm surprised nobody mentioned this before but yes that 5 pin connecter is a real MOFO to get out for those of us with 6MTs. I did it on my 04 automatic base TL and it was a breeze. Tried it on my friend's 6MT TL and ended up unbolting the fuse box assembly (not recommended) to get to it but I finally did.

Last weekend SICK TLS and I tried getting to it again on my 08 Type-S 6MT and it was a bitch. I don't know that much about wiring but he did and was able to find the same wire in the A pillar; much easier to get to and much easier to splice into.

Just remove the A-pillar cover and cut into the loom, look for the green with red stripe wire!

I'll add to the post about manual TLs.

Thanks guys!

IIRC, the trigger wire in the pillar doesn't fade in or out with the dome lights, right?

Yeah I might just try the A pillar route.

How long did it take you to install the white footwell lights? Im looking at doing this with a buddy of mine who did it to his truck, so just curious on the time frame?

It'll take 2 hours max.

I could do it in like an hour now.

The only hard part is getting to green plug behind the fuse box.

What he said. I pulled the a pillar since it has to send the signal to the domelights themselves and was able to catch the wire in the loom there. Solder, tape, ziptie and done. Much easier than trying to catch the damn wire at the fuse block for the 6mt.
Havent tried it yet on my Auto. dont use t-taps! Austin and J

I had a little (a lot) of help.

GP does a great job explaining though.

I wired mine so they come on with my parking and headlights. I also have a switch so I can turn them off if I so choose to.

And thats what I want. I want my lights to dim like my other LED lights when I open the doors and turn my car off. I also want the switch where I can show it off.

you know how the add-a-fuse has two slots for fuses? do we just take the one we took out into a random slot and leave the other slot alone?

No, there are 2 because one of them is for the fuse you just pulled out of the fuse box that you're inserting the addafuse to, the other slot in it is meant for the additional load of whatever accessory you're tapping for.

Make sense?

So would i get something like this and another 3amp fuse to put along with the original fuse?

Also, the dome super visor wire is behind the whole cluster of wires in the pictures right?

Sorry for the noob-ness. and thanks for the help!

i used a kit from LEDglow.com to do my interior lighting. for like 50-60 dollars, and has the functionality to be any color you want, or rotate through colors in different patterns, or react to your bass.

it was plug and ply, you just have to run the wires so they are hidden, mount the LED strips, wire it to a fuse and to a ground.

i like how the light reflects off the chrome around the speakers, makes them look illuminated too

Yeah, you need to buy 1 add-a-fuse, and 1 3A fuse.

Choose the fuse slot that has 24/7 power, such as power seats.

Alright guys, i really LOVE this mod. Thanks for putting it up! I have an 8 year old daughter and it seems like she drops something everytime she gets into the back seat so i decided this would be mod #1.

Everything was fine following the instructions given. i had all four strips installed and had light up. Somewhere during the "buttoning up phase" something went wrong. The overhead switch is in the middle or auto setting and when i open the doors/use the fob to unlock or lock the car nothing happens with the led strips or my overhead dome lights. I decided to take the wiring back to stock to start from scratch after verifying my connections and pathing were sound. I removed the tap from the green/red wire and it was weakened so i cut and wired in a little extension to complete the connection. I put the 20A fuse back in the power seat slot and checked all light fuses including the under the hood ones(all good). Car is back to bone stock electrically. Dome light still doesn't turn on when doors are opened/fob used!?!?! The courtesy lights on the doors work and the domes work when i turn them on manually by the switch and pushing them individually. Troubleshooting i have tried:
- took a (-) from the battery and touched it to the dome supervision wire immediately after the harness(where the splice was) and the domes light. So not the wire pathing from the harness to the domes.
- took a (-) and (+) directly from the battery and connected it to the beginning of the footwell light pathing and all those light fine with no visible excessive heat draw at the point of contact on the battery(i don't have a multi meter readily available to check for continuity/shorts).
-tried the 15min disconnect on the battery to reset the ecu. Still no dice. Even tried the gas pedal reset.

I know there is a "micu" that controls all interior lighting among other things. hfl and everything else electronically seems completely normal in the car.

Question: did i do something to the micu?
It seems as though there should be an easy fix that i'm missing cause i'm dumb...

Really hope some engineers on here have some ideas! Thank you! By the way i'm new to the forums and all of you seem like awesome people!

sorry for reviving but i'm a real big newbie when it comes to electricals so i'll believe what anyone says:
i read for white LEDs a resistor should be used b/c they'll burn out quicker, so should i use resistors for this setup?

depends solely on where you get the leds from. If you buy them from the website I listed "lighthouseleds.com" then they already have the resistors installed and you don't need to do anything buy hook them up to power and ground. If buy them somewhere else, and its simply led bulbs, then you should use resistors.

PM me if you have any questions

I'm having trouble pulling out the 20A fuse... I tried a regular fuse puller but its too big.. Can i just use the 20A fuse in the box or is it absolutely necessary to change it with the 3A?

Thanks!
