Raspberry Pi
I searched for a previous thread on this and didn't come up with much.
I see now that ICS can be installed on this little thing. And that it will output HD video and good audio codecs.
Anyone grab one yet? I know the wait time can be long.

Go Giants
Neat concept, I got a Android on a stick device that works ok. Fun.

Safety Car
I considered it when it was first announced. Then they botched the whole release and its very difficult to get a hold of one now at price. They also released a gimped version and then shortly followed it up with a model B updated one. Would be a fun toy to tinker with both Android and Linux though.

I'm Down Right Fierce!
^ That's just for the board. You do know you need other components right? Back when I was looking to build one, the SD class 10 cards weren't that cheap.

SD card and a power supply. And a neat little case if you want it.
So that brings the total to...$50? Lol

Wow. I google searched for this thread because I knew there was one. And now that I'm here, I see that I made it. Lol :/
So I'm ordering a Raspberry PI B today.
After thinking about what to do for my home theater setup I decided, for now, to go this direction.
I'll be installing a debian distro that's been stripped down and auto installs and boots to XBMC. This is called raspBMC.
I'll post updates as I go.

Make MyTL Great Again
I bought one in December 2012 and following instructions online made it into Apple Airplay middleman, allowing my brother to be able to print from his iphone/ipad using perfectly fine existing printers. No reason to buy a new 'airplay printer' just because apple can't build in standards like sending PCL output to any IP address. I spent maybe 60 bucks for Rpi, sandisk sd card, usb power adapter and usb cable from monoprice, small case.

Yea. This will be doing a lot of things for me. Airplay being one of them. I will be selling my aTV3 to pay for this.
It's a damn shame how Apple has handled the aTVs software.

Just picked up B+, installed Raspbian and ran some Python programs last night.
Pretty cool little Linux computer, gotta get a case for it off eBay.
Noticed there's a few new other small single board computers coming out from Intel and others.
Great concept for education or messing around at home.

I have a Raspberry Pi and a couple of Arduinos. The Arduinos are much simpler but much less capable. Am using the Pi to control some LED strips to provide night time floor lighting for our dogs; have everything prototyped and just need some quality time to finish the job.

Gotta create some cool app for it, great little fun platform.
Have you seen the computer module version?

I ditched mine on Craigs not a week or two after I got it. It just couldn't handle XBMC as well as I wanted it too.
My rooted FireTV is amazing though.
If media center / xbmc is your goal, look elsewhere, IMHO.

Yea those are nice. I paid $80 for the fTV though. And it plays whatever I throw at it just fine. Runs the heaviest XBMC skins just fine. Plus comes with all the Amazon perks which I already have via Prime.
That would be a much better choice if emulating is your thing though.

Curious, what XBMC skin are you using? Confluence? Amber?

old school
Apparently the Pi 2 has a hardware glitch where, if you hit one of the chips on it with a xenon flash or laser pointer, the whole thing shuts down:

Somebody needs to use a couple of these things to build little tanks with frickin' laser pointers on them, and the faulty chips exposed. Now THAT would make for a cool game of laser tag!

Been thinking about getting one to set up a VPN server. For $35, I'm thinking why not.

Picked one up yesterday to futz around with. It wasn't installing Raspbian through the full NOOBS download, I had to go with NOOBS Lite and it worked.
Might pick another one up to use in the shop instead of an old laptop.

anything your brain can imagine!
have you seen the "smart mirrors" floating around on the internet?
two way mirror+ monitor + rasberry pi = Smart mirror that tells you traffic updates, weather, how nice you look, etc.

It's a small single board computer that most people run some form of Linux on it.
Alot of fun since I use it to learn new languages (Python/Scapy) and mess around with. Hook up a monitor, mouse and keyboard and have a decent Wifi connected computer for under $40.
You can also run embedded applications on it and use the GPIO pins with programs to make a high end embedded controller.
