Thats the thing, it;s ALL the same version of DSM... I just don't get it. The one I posted is pure sine wave, etc... I bet it works just fine with the 1815+.

I pulled an dead HP R1500G3 UPS from a site last week and they told me to trash it or keep it. It works, the batteries are just shot (original batteries). I can upgrade it to 9A batteries (from 7A) for about $120. So for about $120, I'll have a true sinewave, 1500+VA, 1000+W UPS.

When I was looking for batteries for the HP, I ran across this site. They sell refurbed UPS' with new batteries. Pretty decent prices on some high end UPS':

You could probably put Server 2008 R2 on there and maybe 2012

Does anyone have any good ideas for a container to store multiple laptops and their charging blocks on a shelf in some kind of stack-able fashion?

I picked up a few Sterilite - 1963: Large Clip Box but they are a little bit too small.

They (not necessarily Sterilite) have those in a larger size made to go under a bed IIRC. Might be a little too long for a shelf, dunno.

Container Store?

You checked Wally World, OfficeMax, Staples, Home Depot, Lowes??

I am looking for one laptop/charger brick per container. I need to put the containers on an 18" shelf and have them be stack-able...

I think a power outage from my microwave fried my ATT Gateway as they're on the same breaker. Power cycle, reset button, reset on ATT's end and no go. It powers on but doesn't connect. Apparently ATT doesn't let you store swap equipment like Comcast does so a tech has to come over. Is that it for troubleshooting? Pretty sure the box got partially killed.

You can probably install 2016 on there, honestly. I do it on unsupported machines all the time at my job.

I think you know the answer to that is no. But MS does do evaluation copies which gives you either three or six months for free. Plus when it expires if your run "slmgr /rearm" in an admin cmd prompt it will reset the trial. You can do that a few times I think. We've strung clients along for at least a year with that trick before they purchase it.

Gotcha.

Have the bootable iso created, I just need to wipe out the storage configuration (three 10k drive RAID), find the controller drivers and get it set up in a 1 OS drive and 2 Drive RAID0.

Meh, the 2007 dual xeon machine has serious issues. I got Server 2016 running, barely, on an SSD I put in as a regular SATA drive but I think the RAID controller card is bad. The only way to know for sure is to reload the drivers and I need a floppy diskette to do so. Don't have and frankly I am not going to find one just to try it out... I keep getting PCI slot 1 errors on boot (where the Raid controller card is located), so I think I may just dump the machine at a e-recycling center.

Server 2016 installer can load drivers off a USB drive, not sure why you'd need a floppy. Been that way since Vista/server 2008

Its not that, it's that the actual 2007 Dell driver package requires a floppy to extract. Tried formatting the USB various formats to fool it, no joy.

Use 7-zip to extract the files from the exe (once 7zip is installed right click on dell exe -> 7zip -> extract) or run the dell package via cmd line with the /extract switch

Just had an odd experience with Newegg.

I have been ordering computer equipment from Newegg for at least a decade, and spend thousands per year on various equipment, mostly being hard drives. I ordered from them because their customer service is awesome and their free shipping is fast enough for what I need. When I need faster, I pay them to expedite it. The order tracking, returns, RMA and other issues support has been outstanding and their prices, until recently have been within a dollar of anyone else.

Today I bought two 4TB surveillance drives (Seagate SkyHawk 4TB Surveillance Hard Drive 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive ST4000VX007) for $137.99 each. I checked Amazon after the purchase and found that Amazon had them (from Amazon, not a third party) for 10 bucks less each. I went back to look at the Newegg product page and saw that the item from Newegg was eligible for Newegg's "price match guarantee". Nice.

I go to the price match form, fill it in and click submit. A couple of hours later, I get an email from Newegg saying they will only price match ONE item and only price match ONCE per customer. Even if I had bought the items in separate orders, I would only get one price matched.

EFF THAT.

Honestly, as long as my DOA rate (with was damn near 0% with Newegg) doesn't go up on the HDDs, I am going to start buying them from amazon from now on.

I called the Newegg CS number and bitched, and they graciously granted me a price match on the second one, but here is the real stinger...

The price match is in the form of a Newegg gift card that has to be used in 90 days!

Unbelievable.

/Rant

Newegg. They used to be dope, orders were shipped the same day and always arrived a day or two early. I mostly go with Amazon now because or Prime and their Smile program

Most iPads don't have a GPS (only the Cellular models have AGPS) - WiFi iPads just triangulate based on WiFi so offline maps
wouldn't have worked either.

Definitely a lack of common sense .. idiot didn't even have a compass!

I need a little help. We have clients that run 3 or 4 monitors but don't do anything gpu compute intensive. So they don't need a high powered GPU but need a GPU that outputs 4 monitors. We've been using the Visiontek 5570 or 7750.

Our issue is that this GPU is now 5-6 years old and isn't UEFI compatible because it's based on the legacy BIOS system. This causes issues on UEFI PCs, you either don't get video during the bootup processs and you have blank screens until Windows finally loads, or the PC won't boot at all and you get error beep codes.

Our issue is that I've been unable to find a replacement that isn't based off of the legacy BIOS system or that isn't an expensive GPU built for gaming or workstations.

We just need a GPU for a business PC that can drive 4 monitors, can fit into a half-height slot, is UEFI compatible, and costs under $200. It can have 4 mini display ports too I don't care.

Any ideas?

Hmmm... Is it possible to double up on cheapo 2xDVI cards in each machine? Never tried that...

Or, find a card with 2xDVI, 1x HDMI and 1x DP and use all four outputs? Might need a few adapters for the monitors, though (hdmi -> DVI, DP -> DVI).

the cards we use now are half height capable and use a single slot. if you want 4 output monitors you're either doing 4 mini DP or the VHDCI cable shown above and both will fit on a half height card

dual slot isn't really ideal and anything dual slot would probably cost more than $200.

We could also use onboard graphics and add usb video adapters as well but that's a mess. The simple solution is an addin PCIe card that works in all desktops except micro or AIO.
