Weird, on my VM I can only see one line of the start menu... I can scroll, but can only see one line. Also can't resize it.

I don't have that issue. You have FF and Chrome installed , did you upgrade or do a fresh install?

So far this looks like what 8.1 should have been. Finally usable again.

Hopefully they will make it a free or a very cheap upgrade.

Did you see the continuum mode they showed off? It's not in this build but looks pretty interesting for the SP3 or other hybrid devices.

Here's the full keynote from yesterday and it shows some things not in the other video. Skip to the 31:00 mark to see him demo continuum

Woah, what's with the drop shadow behind windows, that's new. It's got a new animation when you open them too. Border padding on windows is down to 1 pixel, I like it. But I see pressing Win + E doesn't take you to "This PC" anymore, that's some bullshit.

Now to figure out why my networking isn't working in my VM...

ok the recent files is pretty cool. I downloaded a picture to the downloads folder then I opened explorer and it was there in the first window under recent files so I didn't have to dig for it. Nice.

Threw it on a machine, have extra hard drives for just this kind of stuff.

Was curious how it would handle my computer, so far so good.

the cmd prompt features aren't enabled by default to enable them open cmd prompt right click on menu bar and choose properties, click experimental tab, enable experimental and then choose which ones you want to enable.

Ah that's true, I could dual boot. It's pretty stable so far so I may just do that...

I'm currently running it in an enhanced session of Hyper-v VM on 8.1 (new 8.1 feature) it gives the VM access to all hardware including USB drives, audio passthrough, etc.

Yeah, I have it dual-booting with a trial version of Server 2012. No issues so far

The most logical reason for naming Windows 10 so far, shitty coders.

Microsoft dev here, the internal rumours are that early testing revealed just how many third party products that had code of the form
if(version.StartsWith("Windows 9"))
{ /* 95 and 98 */
} else {
and that this was the pragmatic solution to avoid that.
cranbourne comments on New Windows Version will be called Windows 10

For example: https://searchcode.com/?q=if%28versi...indows+9%22%29

Devs wrote their own OS checks and assume that if it says windows 9 then it's 95/98 and it won't run. This is similar to the reason that they're still on kernel 6.x from the Vista days, app compatibility.

Also there's a way to change the speed at which you'll receive updates. By default you're only slow list but if you move to fast you'll see them as soon as they come out.

It defaults to slow because if there's any show stoppers found on the fast list they don't want everyone to get it, so they won't release it to the slow list until fixing any major bugs found after release to the fast list.
