yes but it wasn't selling as well as they expected at that price point so they dropped it to $400 about two months later and then it went down to $200 when the 3g came out and then it took off. now you can get one for $100

fuck a $1000!? Why would you pay that much and choose this device over a Macbook or any other kickass laptop? Even at $600 with yet another data plan you can get a kickass thin and light laptop. Or if you add this as a companion to your iPhone doesn't it become just like the Palm Foleo. I hope he makes a good case for this product cause I'm not seeing, though I haven't given up on it. I just can't figure it out right now. What does this thing DO!?!?!? I WANT TO KNOW NOW!!!

Flash is dead. CSS 3 and HTML5 will see to that.

Interesting....Adobe released a public beta today of a new product called Flash Catalyst which allows people to visually develop working Flash programs without having to code anything. What's really interesting in this is that Catalys allows you to save your work not only as SWF files, but also as stand-alone AIR applications.
While this wouldn't help the Flash-less browsing experience in any way, it would nonetheless be interesting if AIR support appeared on the Apple tablet. I'm definitely not holding my breath on that one though. Most likely the timing of this is either coincidence, or AIR support will soon be making an appearance on another platform in order to continue the jab fest between Adobe and Apple.

My whole point about asking for flash is that I want a full fledged browser with nothing missing.
With a screen as large as rumored it better have a full browser.

other side of the argument: people get by (and then some) just fine without flash on the iphone.. I never think "damn, I wish this thing had flash" when using mine. If it had a larger screen, no, I wouldn't feel limited without it either.

Well it's pretty annoying going to a website that uses only flash and just seeing that tiny blue box.
I get by too because I purposely avoid the websites that use flash.

It's not just flash. I want a full browser like the one I use on my desktop.
I'm guessing I should just get a laptop instead

"Yeah, Very exciting. Yes, they'll make their announcement tomorrow on this one. We have worked with Apple for quite a while. And the Tablet is going to be based on the iPhone operating system and so it will be transferable. So what you are going to be able to do now -- we have a consortium of e-books. And we have 95% of all our materials that are in e-book format on that one. So now with the tablet you're going to open up the higher education market, the professional market. The tablet is going to be just really terrific."

This one looks legit! IDK if that's a pelican like case it's in or if this is a prototype
Sarlacc, Engadget says it's even worse than the hoax was saying.

We also see a WiFi icon and a cell service indicator, although tragically there's no carrier listed.
On a totally separate note, we also received a tip claiming to have some specs -- we can't verify any of this either, but we're told that the device will have a 10-inch screen and look like a larger iPhone with a MacBook-like aluminum back, and that pricing will run $800 on contract with Verizon and $1000 without when it arrives in March. We're also told that the official name remains a secret and that Apple employees are still calling it by the codename of "K48" -- a name we last heard in May from the same source that pegged the iPhone 3GS exactly. This source also tells us that the iPhone will be coming to Verizon as well and that we'll see iLife '10 tomorrow, but there won't be any MacBook updates tomorrow. A relatively safe set of predictions -- which is why we sort of believe them.

interesting tidbit of that same article on macrumors.
Engadget posts a possible image of what appears to be the Apple Tablet.
Okay, we obviously can't confirm this, but we just got two very interesting images of what certainly looks like a prototype Apple tablet, or what could be the tablet bolted down to a table. It's big -- really big -- and it's running what clearly looks like an iPhone app, although we've never seen an iPhone app with that interface or at that resolution before.
The site isn't convinced that the image is legitimate. The device appears to have a very iPhone-like Maps application with UI elements consistent with the current iPhone. Obviously, the screen is much larger with a much larger viewing area. There appears to be a home button at the bottom of the device, and a Wi-Fi signal near the top with "No Service" indicating no cellular service at the time the photo was taken.
The black cloaking could be consistent with security measures in place by Apple according to a 2009 New York Times article:
Work spaces are typically monitored by security cameras, this employee said. Some Apple workers in the most critical product-testing rooms must cover up devices with black cloaks when they are working on them, and turn on a red warning light when devices are unmasked so that everyone knows to be extra-careful, he said.
