Question Anyone has dash cam in their car?

I'm just curious if anyone has installed any dash cam in their car. What brand you went with?

There are so many brands, like Blackvue and etc that's pretty confusing considering the prices are outrageous for a simple 2.4M cameras.

Thanks.

I don't have one. Are any cars coming out of the factory with this?

I have a GoPro 3 in my S2000, I only turn it on during spirited drives though.

Shouldn't you be asking your Russian friends?

You have it hardwired? I want to find more about using some UPS system where once the car is off, it will have enough juice in its UPS battery to power the camera when in park mode.

I know I definitely want two cameras, one for front and rear.

GoPro nice quality but I want something that will turn on with the car, and go to UPS mode when the car is off.

I just didn't realize how many brands out there, so I'm a bit lost.

This guy has a lot of good reviews:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5I...W9gZPVkvzM8_Cw

My coworker saw his review of the G1W and got it, and he's fairly happy with it.
I have a few friends who got into accidents because someone in front of them cut them off. I've been thinking of a dashcam ever since, but haven't gotten one.

I'd like for it to do double duty as a bike/travel cam so I haven't made up my mind.

^Yes, I'd love double duty one, but I think for biking Mobius is the best bet. Cheap. Small. Excellent quality but all will require some external battery source.

I think video cameras are essential. There is a new scam going on where at the red light the driver will reverse into you claiming you've hit him...

It's a great investment.

The G1W is very nice and it's only $60. I want something with more control and something that will record in parking mode if someone passes by, it turns on and then goes off when in idle, but I need to get a battery source as I do not want it draining from my car battery. I can't afford to get stranded in the woods as I often drive there for a hike or bike ride, lol

Thank you for the video link.

I'm telling you it's worth having this investment. Blackvue is nice because you can immediately stream content to your phone from the cameras but for $400+ they are still using crap camera and low bitrate :/

I have this one with a front facing 720 recorder but no audio. I wanted a GPS that I didn't have to hide and my first company car didn't have bluetooth and this does (not great but good for conference calls). Also has a built in radar detector (never used but I'm sure it blows) and came with a back cam (never used, new car now has blue tooth and cam).

Think it was $150 and it comes on with the car power and off with it as well. With the screen off, it looks like a plain flat mirror and with it on, you can still see the reflections or adjust your eyes and see the gps, really cool and easily replaces whole mirror. Great dash cam that no one can really see, unless they look closely at the back of the mirror and see the tiny lens.

Ojo is nice mini camera but I need more than 6 hours of recording and preferably dual channel (front and rear) and I definitely need it to run when it is parked (sensing motion) but from a UPS battery. I watched a few videos on youtube and it's hard to make out the license plates, maybe it's just youtube's quality.

So a lot of police departments no longer respond to accident calls if there are no reported injuries. I'm seriously considering taking the plunge on a dash cam, front and rear to protect myself. Any reason I SHOULDN'T take the plunge?

Unless you're literally broke...there is NO reason not to get a dashcam and protect yourself and your family and loved ones.

There are tons of stories people trying to screw with others and they are protected from the cam footage.

https://dashcamtalk.com/ --> is a great website.

I had a defective G1W last year and finally got around to getting another, legit this time, G1W recently for the front. I was thinking about getting a better front cam and then moving the G1W to the rear....

Dashcamtalk is great! I was looking at a blackvue DR650GW-2 channel with the battery backup since I intend to use the parking mode feature for when I'm at work/school. I know it's on the pricey, but one of my coworkers has it on his G37 and I really like it. The ONLY thing that has me hesitating is the 20 second boot time.

Blackvue is no longer a relevant brand. Street Guardian, Marcus, Thinkware, Lukas and Panorama. Pretty much any brand with Sony Exmor IMX322 CMOS is top notch.

I still did not purchase anything as this market changes monthly. I'm waiting on Panorama X2 to get better firmware. I still want something very reliable with lots of control, parking mode, extra storage and great video in a dual setup. Right now dual 2ch setups are sill inferior to any two premium standalone dashcams.

Time yourself next time you start your engine before you actually start moving. You need at least 30 seconds to warm engine, put on seatbelt, etc to go.

BlackVue is super duper slow when it comes to WiFi. It also has a horrid bitrate unless you will use the custom-made Russian firmware. It is not worth its price tag right now... It fails in comparison to all new cams in terms of quality in day time and night time.

I know right.

Though the C7 Corvettes have it as a standard option: http://www.chevrolet.com/configurato...FS_Detail.html

Not sure if other cars have it but maybe some of the higher end luxury cars would....

The blackvue I had for 6 years finally died....
I replaced it with the new basic model DR3500. With the exception of the GPS which was useless to me on the old camera, it works fine & the picture quality is fine to me.

No but you can do it as long as it has power it will record. Nice thing is it will accept a 64GB card

I just ordered a Blacksys CH100B through blackboxmycar.com to replace my G1W, because i want the parking mode. It has all the goodies like parking mode, wifi, front and rear cams, and it's super discreet and low profile. It was ~$250 (US, the site has prices in CAD) which I think is a decent price. It's expensive, but any amount of body work required after someone hits your parked car would certainly exceed that, same with insurance premiums if you wrongly get found at fault in an accident or get scammed.

Here's the link to the one i bought: BlackSys CH-100B Dual Channel Dash Cam

I believe it's currently on sale, not sure if that price will stay that low

It's an ok camera - I think you overpaid even with the sales price per specs it has... Nevertheless Enjoy! Post a review after you've used for a few weeks. Thanks!

Just a follow up to this. I installed it in my RL and installed a mount and a rear cam in my other car so I can just remove the camera and swap it from car to car. Both cars are hardwired. So far I'm pretty happy with quality of footage. The app is really nice. Overall pretty good. One glitch I did notice with the app is that sometimes when I'm trying to play videos thru wifi on my phone, sometimes it does the loading circle and just doesn't play the video. Its very intermitent so I'm thinking it's limited to my phone. I get about 3-4 hours of footage front and rear in park mode since I'm limited by the 64GB space on my memory card. I've left my cars parked for 24 hours so far and the park mode is still running after that, so power draw is pretty minimal. I have the cutoff set to 12V so it's pretty low consumption despite being a 2 channel system.

Overall I'd recommend the camera for sure!
