- GRIFFIN UNINJURED FOLLOWING KO LOSS
Sunday, August 09, 2009 - by Damon Martin - MMAWeekly.com
Following a devastating knockout loss to UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva at UFC 101 on Saturday night, former 205-pound champion Forrest Griffin wasted no time getting up from the mat and quickly exiting the Octagon.
At the post fight press conference, UFC President Dana White said he hadn't seen or heard from Griffin after the fight and he could be "back in Georgia" at that point.
“He’s an emotional guy,” commented White. “He came into this fight confident that he was going to beat Anderson Silva.”
Reports surfaced on Sunday that Griffin had suffered a jaw injury and that was the reason for his hasty exit, but MMAWeekly.com was able to confirm with sources close to the fighter's camp that he is physically fine following the Saturday night fight.
Griffin suffered no broken jaw and he is physically okay.
Griffin, who is ranked as a top five light heavyweight, faced Silva Saturday night in the co-main event, and struggled with the Brazilian's speed and unbelievable accuracy during the bout.
After two knockdowns early in the round, Griffin was caught with a quick straight right hand that put him down on the canvas for the final time as he waived to the referee to stop the fight.

Just watched the fights...wow. Silva looked like he was Neo in the matrix. I like Forrest as a person but man, Silva showed rediculous fighting prowess that was way beyond Forrest's level. I think Forrest is somewhat overhyped, but Silva is pretty damn good. I hope they put him up against the winner of Rampage vs Evans, assuming he beats Henderson again first, which I think he will.
As for the BJ fight, there was a couple times I thought BJ could have ended it earlier, but he was smart and paced himself. Florian looked like someone told him he was GSP. Sorry Florian, you are not GSP. Spend more time throwing leg kicks and less time trying to take Penn down, and you might have stood a chance. BJ probably still would have won though.

The Griffin/Silva fight was so lame. It seemed really odd and out of character of Griffin to throw himself on the mat like that and flop around like a fish. Granted Silva landed a good punch but still Griffin is a fighter that thrives off of the abuse and can usually take it. Plus, when he just ran out of the ring like that, WTF, no man that truly gets knocked out can picked themselves up and scurry out of the cage like that, fixed!! Now that Shadzilla posted up that article stating that his jaw WASN'T broken, WTF!! I was totally disappointed in Griffin's performance or lack thereof. That whole event was so anti-climatic anyway, I hate judge decisions. I usually buy the fights and have the parties, I'm glad my friend bought this event this time.
PLEASE UFC, LET'S START PLANNING A GSP/SILVA SHOWDOWN FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!!

A beat down?? Worse then Griffin? I don't know about that. Have you ever seen GSP fight, especially recently? The guy is a machine! It would be one hell of a battle that's for sure. Everyone wants to see this happen, I think GSP would give Silva a run for his money. The only thing that sucks for GSP is that he would have to go up in weight class, regardless I still want to see this happen.

+1 on Silva and GSP being a much better fight than it was with Silva and Griffin.

I'd personally rather see the Spider take on the Dragon.

Lesnar's Career in Jeopardy...?
From TSN...
Brock Lesnar was released from a hospital in Bismarck North Dakota and will recover from a bacterial infection at his home.
Lesnar's friend and chiropractor Larry Novotny told the Associated Press late Thursday that Lesnar was home and would not be making any decisions about his career until his health improved.
Novotny's claim was backed up by UFC president Dana White on his twitter account.
"Leaving Bismarck, N.D., right now. Brock had minor surgery and is feeling better," White wrote. "Not 100 per cent sure he is out of the woods but feeling better."
While Lesnar and the UFC have not commented on the specifics of his infection or surgery, WCCO-TV in Minneapolis is reporting that Lesnar had a severe case of diverticulitis, which is a common digestive disease that causes small pouches to form in the digestive system.
Surgery for the condition could become necessary when there is concern that the infection could spread and cause a potentially fatal inflammation.
Lesnar originally was supposed to fight Shane Carwin on November 21 for the title, but that fight was cancelled at the time because Lesnar had mono. The UFC were planning on staging the fight at UFC 108 in January, but with Lesnar's illness the fight has obviously been cancelled.
White told the Associated Press on Monday that Lesnar wanted to thank his fans for their support.

Dana just tweeted that Karo Parysian is done in the UFC. He pulled out day before weigh ins with a laundry list of excuses. Apparently this wasn't the first time. I remember when he got in TUF and wanted to fight Nate Diaz.

Yeah the Diaz brothers seem to just love beef. In the fight with Diego Sanchez he wouldnt touch gloves or anything. At least after the fight Nate gave him a hug and seemed congratulatory. If he would've won who knows how he would've acted.

Anyone else think Tito should have won by decision? I figured first round was even, 2nd round Tito definitely had the advantage with the ground-pound, and 3rd round was Griffin. I like Forrest so I was happy for the win but I was somewhat surprised at the decision.

Tito looked out of shape in that match. I like Tito so I was rooting for him. He just seems so much slower than before. Because compare this to the Shamrock fights, this was unimpressing.

This was a tough fight to call. I think first round was even. Second round was Tito and third was clearly Forrest. Tito gassed out around the end of the second round. He came into the third round and he was just a punching bag for Forrest. Going on that I give em one round each with the advantage going slightly to Forrest because if the fight kept going he would have won the 4th and 5th rounds.

I was looking forward to the Koscheck Johnson fight also. It would have been great fight if it wasn't such a pokefest. Either way I am impressed with Koscheck, he ate a couple shots from Johnson and it didn't seem to phase him, then he dropped some bombs of his own. Of course once he got Johnson on the ground it was gg.
