bump?

Shot a 705 last thurs.

Shot a 265-661 last night. 265 was the first game, thought I would be in for a huge series, but no pocket 7-10 2nd game, and one missed 10 pin all night!

Had 10 X in a practice game sunday, (not in a row).

Getting closer!

I'm really happy with my new ball, rolled my first 700+ series the other day(702) It took a couple of days of practice to find a new line I was comfortable throwing, this ball has so much more grip then anything I've thrown before. It hits like a freight train and gains a ton of revolution, I am very happy and am well on my way to being a "good" bowler.

I'm not getting too excited yet, it was a solid series, but until I am in that range for a few weeks in a row I'm not going to start celebrating.

Good! Don't!

Averaging >225 for the season, me and a few guys registered for the Adult City Tourny here in the Raleigh area seeing how we could stack up against the big boys. Let's just say my book average was only a 201 and I was -127 for 9 games

I've been quiet a few weeks, mostly because it's been a roller coaster ride in the standings. 3 weeks ago we dropped to 6th, 2 weeks ago 5th, last week 3rd, this week a 3 way tie for 2nd. We swept last week and took the wood. This week we took on the 1st place team. Fortunately we swept again (beat them by about 220 pins overall) I bowled: 184-200-168. The start of this week my average is 171. After tonight's game, we are 1 point behind 1st place, not sure how the other guys I was tied with did though. I think we play them again next week.

^Good luck getting that first place man! We've lost our chances at first place, but we are holding on to 2nd as best we can!

I shot 647 tonight. 201, 226, 220. First game sucked. I had a 56 in the 5th. Pocket 8-10 first frame, spare, gutter spare, and some other shit. I had to go back 6 just for that 201. Other games went well but not as well as I needed to. My average has dropped to 222 in just 4 weeks

I just can't believe I threw it in the gut. I don't think I've done that in YEARS.

Happens sometimes. And you're gonna be up and down, that's why it's called an average I had a brutal night thursday, couldn't break 190, but I wasn't too worried afterwards.

Went from 204 to 202. But the league is match points so I'm not upset with having a lower average.

I have thrown a few first shot gutters this season, too. And one shot we needed two to win, 12th frame, I lose it/twist my wrist and pick the 7 clean. Tie. FML but it was the first week so I hope that 1.5 points doesn't come back to haunt us.

Still a solid average!

I really think that was my first gutter in 5 years or so. I laughed it off but I was like damn, did I really just do that? My team has tied a few games, but luckily it hasn't come back and bitten us in the ass yet

Yea. What does it take to get to the 215s, 220s consistently? That's 2 marks a game extra, or a turkey-4 bagger instead of X / X. Is it just striking more AND not leaving any opens?

My last few season averages have been (all on wood):
173
181,187
184,190
180,192
198,199,200

So I have been gradually increasing every season, but feel like I have plateaued even though I'm at 202 and 204 in my leagues so far. This is with the new synthetic lanes which are supposed to increase your average by 10, so I feel I should be at 210-215 by now...

Are you throwing consistently? If you are consistently hitting the pocket but are leaving a lot 10 pins(or 4 pins, for some reason a lot of righties leave a lot of 4's) or pocket splits you need a new line and/or to get more rpm's(be it from a ball designed to do just that or adjusting how you release, though if you are throwing consistently I wouldn't start with the later).

Are you a stroker, tweener or cranker? What ball speed do you throw? Do you have potential to have messengers/scouts on pocket hits?

If you are focused and consistent I know you can make a few subtle changes and make it past this plateau.

^ I agree 100%. Getting an extra few pins here and there can really help out your average. This past week I had the problem with not being able to string strikes together, but rather strike then spare then strike over and over, which doesn't really help your score to reach it's potential.

I started the season with four 700-series in a row, so that helped my average quite a bit. Now I'm starting to drop down a little because I can't seem to break 675 anymore. I now usually have one low 200-game and then two games right around my average, therefore still shooting under average.

I played a little game at the lanes tonight, probably not the most intelligent game but it was great practice. Every shot I rotated my ball, I had 3 reactive balls with me and went from my red ball, to my blue ball(no jokes about my blue ball!) and then my black ball and repeated the same order over and over again. I threw 10 games with a high of 205, nothing to write home about but I gained a lot of confidence throwing 3 very different balls one right after the other. I am also EXHAUSTED! I will typically throw 7-10 strikes per game, tonight with the ball rotating I was threw 3-5 strikes per game so I was throwing a lot more balls per game and constantly adjusting my release and speed - if anyone had a clue and was watching me they probably would have thought I was insane! While my scores may have been terrible, my first game was dismal 135, I think it was a great experience pushing my equipment and adjusting quickly was a worth while exercise.

^That's actually a great idea! I usually only use one ball for strikes and spares, weird I know, while the rest of my equipment just sits in the bag. Maybe I should go out and try that sometime.

I hit the pocket every shot, except when I dont. haha, but seriously if I go jersey one shot a night it's a lot.

I struggle when the lanes change from the 2nd to 3rd game and shots come high or light, I have to learn to adjust better.

I am getting a lot more messengers on the 10 pin with my new ball. It's basically a go long flip hard ball. I am trying to work on pocket angle entry, I noticed if I throw too straight it leaves a lot of 10 pins. If I have more angle, it gives me more messengers.

I throw approx 17 MPH and am a tweener. Not a huge cranker like Tommy Jones/Wes Malott, but I think I crank more than say Norm Duke (well, the way he normally throws it).

Basically I stand on 14-16 and throw out to like 8-12 depending. So not a huge hook, I can't hook the whole lane, and I can't stand left of like 17 on my strike ball, just doesn't work for me. I move inside to like 8-10 and play down and in throwing pretty straight if the lanes dictate.

If I have a good clean game it's usually in the 220s unless I string a ton of strikes then I can get up to the 240s-260s.

Usually I get 6-8 strikes a game if I'm "on". Just can't keep missing easy spares is all. A "bad" game maybe only 3-4 strikes and an open and the rest spares. That puts me around 180-195 usually.

^It sounds like we bowl pretty much the same. I usually have my left foot lined up on 15 and aim for around the 7 or 8 board. I'm not a cranker whatsoever, I just play up the right side.

Does your new ball have a back-end that is more angled or more curved? (And no we aren't talking about asses here) Mine is sort of a gentle curve until the last 5 feet and then it really breaks in. I'm also able to throw mine at 10-pins which a lot of people find interesting. I'm comfortable with it so I'm sticking with it.

Angular, it's a pearl particle. http://trackbowling.com/products/pro...tail/rising_se

Couldn't string strikes last night, xx 9/ x 9/ etc. Ended up with a 595. I think I figured out a way to make my 10 pins, though. Aim for the inside of the pin and turn my wrist a little. I missed the first one but made the next 3.

Oh I got video taped last night, my thursday teammate came down and recorded a bunch of us. I have to work on keeping my wrist and arm to the inside of my swing, that's what generates the revs.

^Good looking ball! After this season, I may take the summer off and get a new ball. Hopefully in that time off I can get used to it and then start the winter league back up and keep my deuce average.

595 isn't great but not bad at all, especially if you are struggling stringing strikes together.

I always feel like my form is perfect until I see a video recording of me bowling and then I'm like . I really need to practice more. Bowling 3 games once a week isn't helping me get better.

I "feel" like my form is good til I see a video, hahahaha. People ask how did I not dislocate my shoulder yet.

I just got back and how's this for consistency? 171, 198, 258...627.

The first two balls I was rushing the ball down the lane instead of letting the ball roll out and do the work for me. The last game I slowed it down quite a bit and swung it out a tad more than I had been the first two games.

My team won the last game by 5

I had a great night 211-140-170... yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh. lanes totally broke down and I only got one strike the 2nd game. We got killed by over 200 pins, oh well.

Bad lanes blow, on Tuesday I rolled the high game of the night for our group of 8 people, 189. The lanes had a lot of weird carry down so it was damn near impossible to get a solid back end on the ball, coming in light or brooklyn was the norm. I got a less aggressive ball out and was throwing a much straighter and more direct line with moderate rotation, but I was leaving 10 pins like it was my job. Next week will be better I hope.

Bowled for the first time ever last night.

I have no clue about keeping scores but on my second game I had a 138 and a 153 in the third. Is that any good? I used the gear that the bowling alley rents out

I had 4 strikes in the last game, three were consecutive!

This game is addicting!

First time?

That's really good for being your first time and using the shitty rental stuff.

And it sounds like I'm not the only one who hasn't been bowling worth a shit recently. I just can't get it together

Not bad! It looks like you are pretty inconsistent on your first ball. Either you get a strike or a really low pin count, more so in that first game, but for your first time, that's to be expected!

Were you throwing a straight ball or were you trying to hook the ball?

On my first game I was trying to put some spin on the ball but I couldn't get the release to work. I experimented with throws/releases mostly though the second game. I felt most comfortable throwing it straight down the lane.

The first strike in the last game was actually a left-handed throw! The set (or whatever you call it) before that was left handed as well. Two of the last four throws were also left-handed. I thought my score was really bad so I wasn't shooting for my best. I wish I would have been more serious, but it was so fun!

Better night. 221-215-197 = 633. Avg up to 204.

My teammate hurt his knee bad, it gave out at the line, he couldn't finish the 3rd game. I guess he went to get X-rays.

Bowled for the first time in a year and a half. Rolled a 109 the first game.

170+ the next 3 games, never broke 200. I need to get back into this, but Utah alleys are expensive as hell .. paid $15 for 4 games, and not that much different anywhere else from what I researched.

^ $15 per game? or $3.75 per game?

The alley I went to charged $8 a game... definitely gets expensive real quick. Now that I tried it, I would be inclined to return a lot more if it were less than $5 per game.

Not bad man! Much better than you have been bowling recently

No bowling this week for me due to Thanksgiving

I worked at a bowling alley for 4 years and it was a shit ton cheaper to bowl there than the places yall are talking about. Our prices were all per person, per game:

$3.20/child
$3.70/adult
$4.50/everyday after 6pm

$3.00/shoes sizes >4
$2.50/ shoes sizes <4

Good Christ, I guess I was spoiled bowling at my homestate of Alaska. Games on certain days were $2/game. I guess I gotta have more than a college boy's income to be bowling as much as I want to.

Oh and it was $3.75 a game.
