Acura 99 TL

Hello All,

I'm pretty new to the forum but have always heard about it over the years. I have an acura TL 3.2 99 rebuilt in specific parts that I got from a family friend about 3 years ago. The v-tec Engine was the newest part in the car and ran great. Unfortunately, due to my neglect the engine siezed up on me on the way to my oil change. (oh the irony). I've spent a few dollars on the car over the years as minor problems have arised(catilitic converter clogged, power window problem on driver side only. etc) but as I am a 24 yr. old college student who basically spends all my earnings on rent and bills, the quoted price of 2500 for a new engine and labor just wasnt worth it. (Car is probably not worth that much now anyway). I wanted to just seek advice on what to do as I'm not exactly skilled in this trade. My first thought was to see how much I could get if I sold the shell,(everything included) minus how much it would cost if I got a good price for an engine/ good mechanic within the fort lauderdale area which is where I am located.

Any bit of infor or ideas are helpful.

Thanks in advance,
Marc

Personally, I'd look for a donor motor as the labor will likely be cheaper than repairing one...then find a reputable place that'll take credit card and pay it off asap!

Welcome, man.

Thanks for the reply!

a Donor motor? How much do you reckon labor would be for that? i looked on car-part.com and found some placees that are selling some engines for as low as 500 I was pretty suprised.

That sounds about right from what I've read...I'd expect probably $1000 in labor maybe? I know it sucks, but basically you'd get your on the road for the cost of taxes on a 20K new car WITH a monthly payment.

True, I get what you mean. I have a friend whos willing to sell his second car to me for 3500. Its a 2000 Acura TL 3.2 with a new transmission and doesnt look like any serious issues. I was thinking I could even get him down to 2500. But I could only do this if I can sell my car now for parts at the very least. I know the scrap yard will take if for substanially less than the cost of parts. Problem is I dont know where to start on that landscape.

^ what's up sir. Problem is that most other "south Florida" Acurazine members live up in ft lauderdale/broward. I think I'm one of the furthest south members on here (Kendall area). Other than that it's kinda complicated trying to get a meet going because everyone's schedules are crazy. And sometimes a meet gets planned and not too many people show or they show too late. What area of south Florida do you live in?

My favorites are CB, Markham or VistaView. Once it cools down a little, VistaView is great.

Thats quite alright. Unnexpected expenses happen all the time. You should still swing by. The more the merrier. And as far as parks, CB is great. Those other ones i havent heard of. On a positive note. Its finally starting to cool off here or so it seems. Miami weather and climate is always unpredictable

I totally understand. Kids can pretty much wipe you clean as far as funds and time to do anything. As far as shops, I don't trust ANY of them. I'm a DIYer as long as my tools and the job permits.

Pick one already and let's make it happen. Just need a couple weeks notice so I can make sure I get the day off from work.

We should hopefully get a good couple of people. Especially because a member here in this thread already has a connection with a tsx club of Florida. Im thinking beginning of November? Second weekend in? That way my pay day can contribute to any expenses. Any body got any suggestions?

Certainly sounds like it, I can definitely ask the Ack of P Pines crew if they'd be interested...maybe ask Mike if he wants to bring the lowered TLX.

Let's do it.

Nothing before 10am please Jeremy

Some of us try really hard to be lazy on Sundays

I like to have a little time to wash the car before the meet.
