Unhappy Foglight dilema (will 2012+ fit prior model years?-

Hey so tried out a little DIY I have seen kicking around the forums about fixing the old glass fog light lense (which was shattered) and replacing it with Lexan polycarbonate. However in doing so I tried 2 different silicones and neither held the concave shape of the 4G lense. Anyone else have this problem? I hate to call the stealership and order a new one but open to options. Also would the 2012+ models fog lights fit if you altered the brackets? I ask cause it's half the cost of the 2009-2011 years.

Thanks

just get new ones, stop being so cheap.. it is not only difficult to mold the shape but even harder to make it work properly... and 12+ is just a small round fog light which is no where near the shape of a 09-11..

depo has them for about 114 on ebay.. but quality sucks as it is not glass lens.. its plastic which will pit overtime.

and as always.. you get what you pay for.

Hey, teg. I feel your pain. I think Potz is right about the newer lights not fitting, and about the lexan conversion likely not working for your model. I disagree with him on the Depo's though...quality is actually pretty good. He's right that it's a plastic lens, and in southern Cali where he is, it probably makes sense to spend extra for the OEM lights, but they don't get their roads sanded (if only it were actually "sand") several times a year, and so he likely doesn't understand that if the lenses last long enough to get pitted, then that's a "win".

I've replaced mine now a couple of times, and this last time finally went Depo instead of OEM. Half the price, and the quality appears just as good (aside from the plastic lens).

TL's are sold over a very diverse area. You likely don't care about the heated seats or the headlight washers, but they come in handy here. Not every TL owner's experience will be the same.

Salt is not the same as sand. Salt is hard on the paint, but likely wouldn't affect lenses to any measurable degree. I suspect if one lives in an area where they salt, one would have to be pretty diligent about washing the car. "Sand" on the other hand, or more specifically, the mix of sand and pebbles that they lay down here every few days in the winter, will kill fogs really quick. I'd bet money that teg's issue is with the passenger fog, as the right hand side of the road is where most of the rock ultimately winds up before getting kicked up through a fog lens. Teg, feel free to tell me if I'm wrong here.

So yes...a person who lives in an area without salt or sand will have a different experience. I was giving you the benefit of the doubt. You really need to learn how to accept the fact that others will not always agree with you.

If there's one thing I learned from all those ABC after school specials as a kid, it's that "it's our differences that make us beautiful".

Sorry but I don't feel like forking over $350 for an OEM light from the dealer..ordering online the best I have seen is $245 shipped. The issue is the glass and yes it's the passengers side. Glass in our province is useless as the roads get too much grit and gravel dumped on them over time. Why it's not the same material as the headlights is beyond me. I plan to get them covered with a film but needed a second light quickly to get it done. Looks like I'm gonna have to wait now..

Thanks guys

Take a look at the Bernardi Honda. if you look up the part number you'll find it for around 155 per foglight.
http://www.bernardiparts.com/SearchO...=33950-TK4-A01

33900-TK4-A01 FOGLIGHT ASSY., R. FR.
33950-TK4-A01 FOGLIGHT ASSY., L. FR.

I looked in the Black Market area and got a set of used ones for less then the cost of one Depo foglight.

You can retrofit led fog light housings in place of broken oem fogs for pretty cheap...I did my setup on my 2012 for 40$ per light plus $50 for an external harness to wire them independant of oem harness. I like the way they turned out.

Well after throwing some ideas out last minute came up with a fix...not pretty by all means but it's hidden and sealed! Onto covering them with yellow protective film now. Thanks everyone for your input

damn.. fucken macgyver here lol

just make sure that thing can keep up with the heat... that is your only concern as halogen bulbs do run really hot.. hot enough to melt film past the glass lol

I try...just know that glass won't last. Yes I know there is a risk of the film melting and or plastic. I could always use a lower wattage bulb or look into other options down the road I suppose. Most the time I use my fogs here are cooler days when it's raining or country driving. Hope they hold up.

However. Potmilkz I totally forgot to remove the black rings in the unit while it was apart...heard this can be the leading cause of film burning etc

Yes black rings. If you look in the fog housings there is a thin metal bracket with a ring that must serve as some light reflector/aim device. Heard if you have the housing open to remove it as it causes the heat to be more in one area vs dispersed
