Lancia: Sales, Marketing, and Financial news

Report: Marchionne says Chrysler and Lancia could be merged within a year

by Jonny Lieberman (RSS feed) on Jan 20th 2010 at 12:32PM

Remember the nameless Chrysler Lancia from last week's Detroit Show? According to a report from Autocar, there's a good chance that the vehicle (a reskinned Delta) is more than just an exercise in filling up space in Cobo Hall. Fiat's boss Sergio Marchionne is saying that Chrysler could be fully merged with Fiat by the end of the year.

Why would Mr. Marchionne merge two such seemingly distinct and storied brands into one? Because they fill holes in each others' lineups. "In Europe, Lancia is an undersized, underdeveloped brand, with nothing bigger than the Delta. Chrysler, which has a true global reach, has nothing smaller. Put them together and you have a full line-up," said the boss.

As for last week's Pentastar badged Lancia Delta, it could happen... maybe. "The rebadged Delta could quite possibly make a Chrysler vehicle," explained Marchionne, who went on to explain that a Chrysler'd Delta would not conflict with Lancia. Why? Fiat won't be selling any Lanica-badged Lancias in the United States. If that's the case, the merger would be similar to how Renault-Nissan does business, and hopefully not as... how to put this... plain rotten as DaimlerChrysler turned out.

g' luck.....EVERYTHING got pushed into the massive North American Auto Crisis thread.....it's a catch-all thread.

It's a mess of a thread IMHO.

It would have been better to have it broken down into MFG specific news threads of the "crisis"......ala GM thread, Chrysler thread, Ford thread.

Ya know...3 thread for the Big 3 crisis news.

At the start, it seemed like a good idea to put all the NA automakers into one thread relating to their issues and bankruptcy protection stuff...It still seems to be okay to me. Most of the bad news remains in there. And if there is any fallout information or news related to the Big 3 and what happened a couple years ago with the market crash, it should continue to go in there.

Agree that it started out at a good thing, however it avalanched into a black hole catch all thread. The only way to see if there is a new update of news specific to a carmaker of interest, one has to check to see if there is a thread title update....or keep checking the thread every time it gets "bumped".

Would be better if there was a "crisis news thread" for each of the Big 3.

...but hindsight is 20/20.
