Samsung 46" - LN46A750

Just thought I would drop in and say something. I stopped by Best Buy earlier this evening, and saw this TV.

That's all I can say.
It blew my mind. The color and picture was out of this world. I would say it rivaled if not out competed some current Pioneer plasmas. I've been thinking about buying a plasma for a while, and I think I finally found the one I want.

Maybe I'm ing over nothing special, but next time you drop by best buy, circuit city, or other electronics store, you should check it out if they have one. Would I start a thread if I didn't think it was out of this world??

Yes, the 650 and 750 out perform the best Pioneer plasmas. Of course, the new Pioneer plasmsa suck compared to last year's models; Pioneer downgraded the panels to be able to lower the price. The difference between an old 110 and a new 111 is quite noticeable.

By the way, the 650 and 750 have the same panel. Also, the 850 and 950 just came out. From glancing at the specs, the 850 looks to have the same panel as the 650/750, but it has a few extra features beyond the 750. The 950 is amazing, easily the best TV out there.

Oh yeah, the TV's you see in the store aren't tuned...that's how good the new Sammy's look out of the box. And yes, tuned is even better.

I bought the 650. Look into it. It's the exact same TV minus a speaker and some bull crap media content. Screen is exactly the same. And yes, the picture is amazing.

Cnet claimed it might be the best LCD they ever tested. Also, when I was getting Fios installed the other day, the tech said that the TV I had was the best one you can buy, this coming from a guy who works with TVs all day.

^I use Cnet's settings for watching TV, out of the box settings for the PS3 (HDMI 1 and 2, respectively). The only downside to that is I watch my DVDs on the PS3 and would prefer to use Cnet's setting for those; however, games are too dark with Cnet's settings. Down the line, I'll probably get a separate BD player so I can set it similar to the TV settings while leaving the PS3 on out-of-the-box.

I've heard about the 950 and I'm sure its an outstanding television but it's also significantly more in price. To be honest, I'd probably go for the 750 over the 650 just because the 750 seemed to have less of the red 'bordering' around the edge. It's not that big of a deal, but it's kind of distracting. That's the only con that I can see about it.

At least for me, I can't justify paying that much extra for the 950 though.

Yeah, the 950 is pretty pricey...but it's new, that's how it goes. It'll be cheap by this time next year. As for the 750 having less red, the 650 actually has less. The 650 has red on the top and bottom of the bezel; the 750 has it on all four sides.

Regardless of which you get, order it from Amazon. It's a lot less than the chain stores (even their online prices).

i get that online shops have better prices, but if you get a malfunctioning tv, it's gotta be a PITA to ship it back.

^I don't have a truck, so getting a TV from a local store and taking it back if there's a problem is just as much of a PITA as getting/shipping back one from who-knows-where...maybe even moreso seeing as I'd have to rent a truck and enlist friends to help me get it in and out of the truck versus just calling a shipping company and scheduling a pick up.

Maybe the 650 just had a thicker line. I could be wrong. I didn't sit there and study the thing. Maybe I could even go with the 650 then if that is the case.

As far as where I buy it from, I always check

1- Amazon
2- Buy.com
3- Overstock.com

Also when I did a google search, B&H came up, and they had a pretty good price too. I haven't compared yet though.

There are also issues with the 750 image reflecting off the clear plastic rim of the screen. It's pretty distracting I've read.

Amazon is only asking $1,650 for the 46" 650

Best buy was asking about $2,000

Best Buy is more like $2,200. I got it from Amazon for the above price. For $600 in savings it's worth the pain of having to ship it back if there is a problem.

This is like a car salesman telling you ANYTHING about a car. They don't know a thing. Also, you should not have to bring your tv in for service. The manufacturer should be sending a tech to your house in most cases, or have a authorized repair center pick it up.

I stand corrected.
I went back today to look again.

On a side note, I saw the 950.
It was awesome. And very expensive. That's all I have to say about that.

I saw the 850 as well, and I liked how thin it was, but I can deal with a little extra thickness and not having exercises and recipes on my TV.

I saw the 580 which I liked alot, and it was cheaper than the 650, but the only thing it didn't have that mattered to me was the 120mHz refresh rate. Only 60. I'm sure it's still a great TV....

580, or 650???
Thoughts????
My main usage of the TV is watching football and playing 360.
I'm sure the extra refresh will sure help, but is it enough to justify?

I think I decided on the 46" 650.

The only other thing I can possibly think of, is Samsung LN-T4681F.

Price -
650 - $1650
81F - $2000

The one thing the 81F has over the 650 is the new LED illumination technology which basically eliminates any and all motion blur typically associated with LCD's. I don't think I would have to worry about it much with the 650 anyways though with the 120mHz refresh rate. The other thing that the LED technology accomplishes is unbelievable blacks. Since it's a bunch of LED's for the backlight, supposedly, it's almost as if the LED can just turn off when there is a section in the frame that is truly black. I saw the technology on the 950, and it looked pretty dang good.

I think I will just stick with the 650 though. It still looks great. I could do without the red border, but that's the only real complaint of mine.

If I was in the market now, I'd spring for the 950, simply for the LED back-lighting. When I got my 650, there were only a couple of sets on the market with LED BL, and they were beyond reasonable in price. But the blacks on the 650 are pretty damn black, much blacker than any plasma I looked at; I'd expect the difference to an LED BL model to be minimal.

As for the motion blur, I don't have a problem with it, and I have the anti-blur thing turned off. I did have to put it on 120 (Off, 30, 60, 90, 120) for SD football (some preseason games) but I haven't had a problem now that regular season is here and it's all in HD.

What do you think the difference in price will be for the 650 now than say in December?

^I got mine at the end June/beginning of July for $2,300 (52"); it's $2,100 now. I'd guess around $1,800, maybe less since it will be the holidays and the 850 and 950 are out. Price would be proportionately lower for a smaller size.

The 750 has some built in memory and it also has the ability to network with a computer and/or camera if I remember correctly so you can look at pictures and video on your TV. Um. I can't remember anything else performance wise. It does have a different bezel though. I wanted the 750, but I read reviews that said that because of the design of the bezel, it inherently causes a "reflection" or leakage of the light coming from the screen, and it goes to the edge. Some have said it's really distracting, some say they don't care. I liked the look of the 750 better since it was more square, but I can deal with the 650 if I don't have to deal with an annoying reflection. I can't really explain it that well. Look up the reviews and you will find out what I'm talking about.

I am not saying he cared. I am saying he has NO idea what is good or bad. Just cause he hooks up cable to the tv does not in any way, shape, or form make him an expert on tv's. 99.99999999% of the techs I have to deal with cannot even figure out that they need to hook up a digital audio connection to the receiver to utilize surround sound when they do actually hook up their box to a receiver, and most can't even do that simple feat. So, what I was saying is the guy is NO expert just cause he "touches" tv's all day.

And to clarify, I am not bagging on your tv at all. It's a nice set indeed. Just pointing out that you really shouldn't expect too much out of those guys.

For my son's college graduation I bought him a Samsung 42" 750 series model for $1850 from CC. Thye matched BB one day internet add. This was about 3 months ago. Very impressed with pic quality. I got a 32 330 series model for the workout room. Nice TV for $450 - only 720p though.

Did you ever get the 650? The LN46A750 is $1620 on amazon right now

I don't know how long to wait now to see if the price will change with the holiday season / BF....

Nope.
Not yet. But I'm still planning on it.
I'm just cheap.

I know TV/electronics are just one of those things that will always come down in price. No doubt....$1650 is an excellent price...but I know it can and will get even better. I'm just not an impulse buyer. (usually....)
