Get the 5900, I have the 791 but that's only because that is what was available at the time. The 5900 is suppose to have better range. Also make sure you get it installed right, an alarm is only as good as the install. Make sure to get added protection as glass sensor and a battery backup, things you can also pick up on eBay for little extra.

You will need a bypass module I forgot the model on that, its for ur remote start to work.

I have the window modules installed as well, which could get pricy due to the labor but its not necessary its more for conveniience. Rolls up my windows automatically when I lock the car this way even if someone forgot to close their window, I dont have to worry.

I hate how the Viper alarm system comes only with one remote!!! I wonder if we can buy an extra one and program it. Cause it would suck if you lose the remote it comes with.

I've got the 5900 installed, the range is not nearly as good as i thought, i was expecting the full mile reach, but get barely .2 miles. I would also not chance getting a used alarm. I think i paid about $400 or more for parts and installation. and the install guys sucked, they broke my steering wheel column cover, so make sure you go to a legit place. The place i went to was supposedly the shop that does it for Acura when a customer goes through them. and the battery for the remote goes dead pretty quickly.

I've had the viper 791 before and they are great alarm systems. Of course you can get an extra remote to program it and use it as back up. The battery dies out quick because it's a 2-way remote. Buy those AAA Lithium batteries. One should last about 2-3 months??

Good thread. I've been looking into getting one too.

I'm not a huge fan of the remote. I wish they all looked like this:

Is the 5701 any good? I have some friends that work at Bestbuy so I can get hooked up if BB has any good models in stock.

Whatever you do... DO NOT get your alarm installed at best-buy.. I made that mistake when having my 791xv installed on my envoy and it was nothing but one headache after the next..after about 6 months of threats and bitching back and forth I was given a full refund + $250 store credit along with the entire system reinstalled for free.. I guess they found it better to make me happy than to speak with my attorney.

Anyway.. if your like me treat your TL to the best... treat her to a compustar system and you won't be disapointed

so let me get this straight, Im still somewhat confused as to how a remote start/security system will be operated on the TL. Is it like any other remote start, meaning to start the car just press the remote start button and once we want to get in the car just unlock it using the aftermarket remote??? and will that disarm both the aftermarket security system and also the factory security system??? or will it cause any problem with the FACTORY security ???

I dont want to lose the factory driver memory settings when I get mine done or will have to carry 2 different kind of remotes. Can I still keep the factory driver memory? I saw alot of threads regarding this but I havent really gotten a full understanding of how an aftermarket remote start with security will be on the TL. Im eyeing the Clifford MATRIX 50.5X. Heres the link http://www.clifford.com/Products/Pro...?ProductID=701
