I just called acura care customer service 1-800-383-2238 opt 7. If you own acura tl 2004- 2008 and if your experiencing same issue on premature Oil pump seal leak Please call acura care. They said they will have there engineer look at it if more people call and give them your vin number as well. Goodluck hopefully we get resolution on this expensive repair.

FYI this is a intensive labor and required to remove the J-pipe, Oil Pan, Accessories, Drive Belts, Harmonic Balancer, Timing Belt, and Timing Belt pulley to gain access to the oil pump assembly. Just for a faulty premature oil pump seal.

I highly doubt it gona get fix by Honda, especially for a 8 years old (for a 2008) and 11 years old (for a 2004) car that (mostly) has over 100k miles. If this was an Toyota issue then I can see it might happened, This job is a bit easier if you get it done along with the TB/WP service. Honda Accord V6 J30A1 cost 4 hours of labor so the TL might be around 6 ish.

What do you consider premature failure? My TL is 10+ years old with 150k miles on it. I would find it highly unlikely they will do much about it this late in the game.

I have all the parts for this job on the shelf, I am replacing the TB this spring, so I will do the oil pump seal, spool valve filter/seal, and all other associated seals in there. Also bought all the power steering pump seals to do that job as well. The parts are inexpensive and I can do the labor, so it won't be too bad.
Oh, and I highly doubt Acura will do anything about this. What's in it for them? As mentioned, these cars are getting old and the miles are up, so Acura has nothing to gain by replacing these seals. Would you not buy another Honda/Acura because a seal failed at 150,000 miles (+/-)?

Really need a DIY on the oil pump seal...

If you were in their system as having been a repeat customer for 10+ years I can see them meeting in the middle at most. But, current 2nd, 3rd, etc., owners aren't going to see anything about this unless it posed a hazard.

Could argue that the oil leaking on the j-pipe can create a fire hazard, much like the power steering hose "recall" of yore.

To remove the oil pump, you would have to do the timing belt first, which we have good DIY's for already, then just need a DIY for the oil pan, which is a bit tricky due to the subframe. After that, the oil pump will be easy to remove. I almost did this DIY last month when I had my oil pump seal replaced. I was taking pics on the way, but got stuck on the oil pan removal and didn't have enough time. I ended up letting a shop finish the job.

I think this is the same problem that I just found. I doubt Acura will do anything for my 04 with 158k though. If some engineer actually wants to take my car and poke around it for a few hours, at acura's expense, I'm all for it. I doubt that's actually going to happen though.

Would this be the cause of a leak on the front side of the engine? The leak I have seems to be coming from the part under the alternator, maybe the ac compressor? The leak seems to run down and back along the oil pan, to the drain plug. Definitely interested to see if this goes anywhere.

so someone want to complains and eventually (hope) to see a action law suit for things that fail in 8-12 years old car that have mostly over 100k miles. Power steering recall was done because some of the TL did caught on fire and as I remember back in 2012 the 07-08 TL was 4-5 years old (CPO range) and the consumer did prove that PS line could fail as low as 30k miles. Good luck and you can die trying get Honda cover the oil pump and crack dash.
