A7 TDI or 535d xDrive?
Hey folks, seriously thinking about each of these cars, looking for members' experiences with either of them. Please don't turn this into a "You should buy a _____ instead" thread as I've done a lot of thinking about this. Either way I'd go certified pre-owned on a 1 year old car with limited miles.
Thoughts?

I voted for the A7 purely based on how fantastic they look.

Easy. A7 TDI. Better looking IMHO than the 535, hatch for carrying extra stuff. 730 miles of highway range theoretically. What else do you want? Plus, everybody and their mother owns a BMW. (No offense to Bimmerzine guys here. )

Imma gonna go A7 TDI on this...I don't think you go wrong with either honestly...but the A7 is just so nice.
And Audi has the history on quattro, while VW has the history on TDI.

The A7 is a stunning car IMO and I agree with you guys on being swayed that way. I've watched a few video reviews and they keep mentioning the diesel noise intrusion. It is faster by a couple 10ths to 60 (no big deal); does tick quite a few boxes for me (utility, looks, a little rare around here) I have to go drive them and see obviously.

I love my 530xi T, the thing is a rocketship in the snow and I do a LOT of driving in bad conditions. Fitted with Blizzaks and I'm good to go. It came back from the dealer after some work/tune/new timing chain recently. As it was literally sitting in my driveway, the right front spring broke in half mid-way. As I walked out to it, I thought it looked different so I walked over to the other side and it looked the same so I thought it was my imagination. Got in, backed up and as I got to the driveway/roadway point, the car undoubtedly, had no front suspension so I pulled back in and snapped this pic.
Then called service manager who had it flat-bedded in
Then I was given a 328d xDrive sedan that I really like. Soooo, this is why I'm looking, a little more seriously than I was for next year already.

Damn, sorry to see
Is the Allroad too small for your liking? I would love to see you stay in a wagon

Yeah, I think the allroad is too small though I haven't really scoped them out yet. I'd really rather have a better car than an Allroad/328d xDrive Wagon though.

530xi wagon. At least it is a good-looking wagon even with the, um, forced VIP-type lowering . I take it the suspension is not worth repairing? I'm afraid to ask how much it is to repair. How many miles on it?
BTW, given your current choice of transport, my above choice of A7 is even a better choice unless you want to just switch up to a sedan.

well, because the car just had so much work done and the dealer is advocating BMW to help pay for the repairs, I haven't found out yet how steep it is going to be. Probably won't be that bad really. This 530 has 144K on it. I have been without a car payment for 3 years and may just keep it regardless of what I buy and use it as a winter beater.

I would go with an A6 3.0T. For some reason I don't like the A7 back end at all.
CErtainly no d/Tdi for me. I had 2x 328Xd on rental in the last month... terrible engines (and it is supposed to be a good one).

W212 E350 4Matic not an option?
Otherwise, I vote A7.

I don't think so. Decision is driven by diesel availability

CPO on a well-equipped A7 or 535d is between $61-65K with similar miles (<8K)

it all depends on the package.
Base A7 looks meh
base 535 looks ok but meh
535d Xdrive M sport > A7 and it is cheaper
But if you were looking to spend 65k, i wonder what kind of A7 TDI you can get since
Premium + Starts at 67k and Prestige starts at $70k
Audi's discount is laughable
