Just picked up an NBP 2006 RL A-Spec....

Hey guys. So I just returned from the dealership with an NBP 2006 RL A-Spec. Car is in great condition. 70k on the odometer. I traded in my beloved 1998 Prelude Type-SH that I've owned for almost 8 years. The Prelude had been serving dual purpose as a daily driver and weekend track car. RL is the new daily and my brother and I are going to be purchasing a dedicated car for track day.

I don't have many plans for the car. Wheels, yellow fog bulbs, iPod integration, backup camera and that's about it.

I have a couple questions too.

1-The foglight lenses are kind of dull. Is it pretty easy to clean them up with a headlight restore kit?

2-The "Not an Ashtray" lid doesn't stay closed. Any kind of fix for this?

3-Car didn't come with an owner's manual. I'm sure I could live without it but I was thinking about trying to find one. Any idea where the best place to find one is? I'm sure the dealer charges a ton for one.

Here's a crappy iPhone pic. I'll probably detail the car tomorrow and post some more pictures.

Congrats on the find! Great car which will give you miles and miles of enjoyment. As regards the fog light lenses, I believe they are glass so they should clean up normally unless they are scratched up. Can't help you with the "Not An Astray" issue other than to recommend a trip to the dealer. As far as the owners manual is concerned you may want to try ebay or www.helminc.com

The "Not An Ashtray" is a somewhat common issue. Needs a new locking clip, Part number 77297-SJA-003, about $4.00 plus shipping online.

Register at MyAcura (http://owners.acura.com/) and you can see or download the Owner's Manual.

+1 on glass fog lenses and $4 latch. There is an owners manual in the Garage, the second thread in the 2G RL forum, along with service manuals and a ton of other info on the car.

*Edit* The link in the garage is the site LL is talking about. Oemacuraparts.com or acuraoemparts.com is where you can find the latch.

Congrats on the new ride! Post pics! I would like to see a good shot of the rear bumper.

Just a thought, are you aware that there is a storage compartment for the manual inside the glovebox? There's a release latch inside the glovebox and the "trap door" will open.

My buddy (who has a RL) didn't think he had a manual either...until I showed him the "hidden" door. Sure enough, there was the manual!

Pic I took while doing a quick wash this morning after taking off the dealership sticker on the trunk. Also removed the front license plate bracket afterwards.

I checked and it's not there. Thanks for the tip though. I had no idea that compartment was there either. Lol. It's weird. I have the whole leather folder thing and it looks like it has everything in it minus the owner's manual. The salesman is supposed to be getting me one. We'll see if that happens. Otherwise, I'll just order one online. Are the ones you order from Helminc.com the real deal OEM manuals? It says "factory authorized" all over their site. Don't know if that mean they are actually OEM manuals or not.

Looks like you have the top of the line CMBS model since that car wash pic shows the clear shield over the Acura emblem in grille. The laser (adaptive cruise) and collision mitigation systems are both great features and work very well in the RL.

Since you have the Aspec, was the car De-Paxed? If so, check to see if you have a jack and spare since the CMBS cars did not come with either. I had my Acura dealer install the jack and spare when I had the Pax tire/wheels changed out.

Enjoy!

Yeah. I already checked. There's no spare.

I work in the tire business so I'm going to make some calls tomorrow to see what I can do about getting one. I read up on here about all the items you need for the kit.

Hey former Prelude owner, congrats on your 2006 RL with CMBS. This is coming from someone who had a 2001 Prelude for 5 years before selling out to get a 2006 RL. Two very different cars but you know how the SH AWD works in your Prelude except its now on the rear wheels in the RL. You'll love the RL !

Looks like our RLs are similar cos I'm at 67,000 miles and you're at 70K. It's a keeper so enjoy.

I can't say for sure about the HelmInc manual, however I would hold the salesman/dealer to providing you with a manual.

I'm loving the RL. I miss the Prelude but the coziness of the RL is definitely helping to ease my pain.

Like I said, I had my Lude for almost 8 years and it was my baby. We had some good times together.

looks very good! it will look awesome once it's cleaned up , waxed, and shiny. black is a love hate thing... looks amazing when clean but gets dirty fast.

I also used to have a Prelude SH! I have a 1999 SH, pearl white just like yours... I had the OEM lip kit on mine..but stock wheels... very nice car... sold it once the baby arrived... that was about 9 years ago!!

the RL isn't quite as tossable as the Prelude, but a far nicer daily driver....

I also noticed that the CMBS emblem is pretty cloudy and dull looking. Can this be cleaned up with a basic headlight restore kit?

There is a thread here about that^^^. I will try to find a link later. My salesman gave me his word he would get my manual to me and followed through. He gave me a 2005 while I waited so I wouldn't be empty handed driving from AL. If yours never comes through, I can send you my '05 copy for just the shipping.

Here is a convo we had earlier about this. I don't remember what the outcome was though.

Keep in mind the RL is AWD and the spare must approximate the diameter of the other wheels + tires.

If you don't do it, the whole car could explode and turn to dust while driving down the road.

I have one of my vendors looking for a 4th gen TL SH-AWD spare for me. Probably won't fit over the front brakes of the RL but i can just put it on the back. Tough to find. The wheel lists at $500 and the tire $300 for the RL spare. No thank you.

You can pickup the wheel for $378 on oemacuraparts.com. Ironically, they have the ASpec wheel listed for $381. Why not get one of those and cover all four wheels?

I can put together a full size spare for cheap. I don't think it will fit in the trunk properly though. I haven't tested it yet but there doesn't seem to be enough room for a full size spare under the floor.

No, there is not. The spare is 4" wide, and stock wheels are 8". My suggestion was just an alternative to the TL wheels that would not clear the front calipers. And for the same price you have a backup full size.

You'd think RL's are getting old enough that the junk yards would be having 2nd gen RL spares

Then again I suppose with enough people trying to de-PAX those would get ate up.

Still, $380 for a new OEM isn't bad.

That's why they're so rare I think. Where did you see a new one for $380?

Congrats on the RL! I know this sounds strange, but did you pick that up at Pikes Peak Acura? I think I recognize the dealership.

Replaced the latch on the coin tray and the one on the left side of the center console lid yesterday. $9 in parts, 5 minutes of my time on my lunch break. Makes me wonder why the dealership didn't just do it themselves. Would have probably helped them sell the car sooner. Their loss I guess.

I have another question. How do I tell if I have the A-spec suspension kit or not?

As the proud owner of an '06 NBP with A-Spec suspension and just under 70k on the clock...

just let me say I'm really jealous of your CMBS and super-zoomy cruise control.

Sharp car. Welcome to the board!
