I remember reading that thread on L4P when BC wrecked the 12C.

Everyone was trying to figure out his passenger Olivia was.

I've always toyed around with the idea of an MR2 Spyder or NA Miata (89-97). After just one autocross session, I'm hooked. It's either that or a motorcycle. The BRZ is a very capable car, but I've never owned a mid-engined car. MR2-S checks all the boxes - fun, affordable, and reliable. My plans for the BRZ are approaching daily driver unfriendly-levels, and I don't want that.

I don't think I plan to ever be competitive on a national level, but I want something that's fun to drive the piss out of without worrying too much about it or attracting the ire of law enforcement.

Anyone have experience with either the MR2-S or NA Miata?

nevermind on the MR2. I would want an 04-05, as those came with a LSD standard. Not a single one found in my area on craigslist. Probably too expensive if I could even find one.

I still have a soft spot for 91-95 MR2 Turbos but those are a real pain in the ass to work on.

So yeah, NA Miatas?

NA Miatas are go karts for adults.
1G MR2s are fun too. Drove one that had a AG 20v Blacktop in it, hoot to drive & revved north of 10k.

Ford is replacing the 2.0L EcoBoost engine with a new design, only after four model years.

Interesting...wonder why? The reason of engine tech is advancing is BS because it's always advancing. Guessing the new motor is an evolution of the engine not a brand new design but strange either way.

In other Ford news, I hope this happens:
http://jalopnik.com/a-zany-320-horse...ing-1529435804

If it does, I'll be glad I didn't buy the ST over the TLS earlier this year. If it doesn't, I'll be sad.

In that case I would say as awesome as the Miata is, it may be a little too similar to the BRZ in terms of layout and intended purpose.

The bike sounds like a good idea.

I don't know when this happened, and I'm not in the market for one, but I kinda keep my eyes open just out of curiosity... R8 V10 prices are in the low 100's now, which is remarkable IMO for such a coveted vehicle.

like this 2011 Spider is listed at $109k, it had a sticker of $186k. I'd venture to dare say this is "affordable", in this day and age.

Damn. Not that they can't afford it, but it probably wouldn't be too fun being the original owner of one of those. That's a hit of depreciation.

It's the mileage that causes the hit. The dealership also being under heavy re-innovation could also play a role; half of the building is under construction & the sales office is run out of portables right now.

I'm not convinced it's mileage - note the one I posted with 9000 miles for $112k. Also I'm not convinced its the building, as I noticed at least a couple similarly priced models at a Chicago location as well.

It is most certainly the mileage. Models in the '10-11 range under 3-4,000 miles are asking $140-145K. 10,000 mile R8 5.2s of the MY11 haven't dipped below $130,000 on the market. Even the MY10 R8s with the same mileage as the Audi Plano one are still holding at $120,000. Most of the R8s in this year range that are sub-$110K are pushing 30,000 miles.

The dealer's construction also could most certainly cause them to drop the price a bit more; most people do not even know they are still open.

Just got back from the Outer Banks (which was awesome). Very happy with the Focus ST's fuel economy. I was taking it easy but certainly not hypermiling and got 32.3 MPG (mathematic calculation though the car computer was accurate). Was able to do 384 miles on 11.875 gallons. I have no doubt that I could have hit 33-34 miles per gallon had I not hit a long stretch of about 100 miles of intermittent traffic signals and a 15 minute idling rest stop (I had my dogs with me) while my family was inside Subway.

I bet that if I checked the air pressure in the tires and hypermiled the car out in somewhere like I-70 in Kansas on a good day with decent temps and low wind the car could exceed 35mpg.

Obviously, when I give it the beans on a regular basis and don't care about fuel economy the average MPG is much lower (25.5). Right now, over the last 2000 miles of reasonable driving I'm averaging over 29 MPG.

I will say that the car in rush hour traffic does not come close to the 26 MPG City rating Ford gives the car. It's probably closer to 20 MPG. Other than that, can't complain about gas mileage.

The hour of headlamp fault warning chimes every 30 seconds on the drive down is a totally different story. I'm at 21K miles. I'm not keeping the car after the warranty is up. Enough is enough.

Spotted a new Genny the other week. It looks a bit... tame? Almost Accordish.

Didn't get a good look at the front, though.

I heard if you shut the car off and then restart, the fault warning will go away.

Glad to see you had great gas mileage!

I was in Avon, NC. It was fantastic. It was really quiet and the beaches were pretty empty. We were there a week and rented a house. Huge fan. I would never go back to another beach on the East Coast. The house was about $4500 for the week but I think that's pretty reasonable for a five bedroom house across the street from the beach with a pool.

Saw the Hatteras Lighthouse and went fishing out offshore (about a mile or so). My brother caught a 25lb cobia. The fishing boat owner was amazing. Dude saw some Cobia swimming near the surface, hit in front of them with a lure and hooked it right away. I've never been fishing with a better guide.

I thought so too. No such luck. It eventually stopped on it's own as I was driving after I made a service appointment in NC. I think it heard me talking about it.

I can only assume this was something to do with the DRL TSB. Plus the stumbling revs are back though the car hasn't died yet.

I think the next car I buy is going to be through a buying service so my terrible luck can't actually rub off on the car

It's ok to look bland when you've got 420hp (...or 311 for that matter!) and options that rival Mercedes.

It'll be interesting to see what's an option a year from now. Golf R, perhaps a 4Motion Golf Sportwagen, Allroad, Volvo V60 ...

I will say that if my sister decides to sell her '03 Accord V6, I may buy that and then I have far more options ...
