damn worked like a charm with me! Will be doing this every two weeks! For the guy who said it changes the shift points where is the proof that this is what actually happens? For example show me the before/after shift points when resetting the ECU. Because my car does not seem to be shifting any differently it is just alot more responsive.

Can we confirm that the trip doesn't reset in the non- TypeS?? I did it on my '04 and didn't get a reset

sh'yeah. Finally remembered and did it today. Pulled off on the side of the road for a couple mins. For sure makes a difference. I noticed it the most when driving around in parking lots. I kept thinking "I did not give it that much throttle..."

Have not been on the highway with it yet.

I did it this morning on my '08 Type S. I attempted to be as objective as possible in the difference. Granted, without numbers, it's still subjective.

Drove around my parking lot, hit the main strip in town and got myself on a highway to balance all three. I definitely noticed a difference!

No change on the trip counter for me though. Just speed and Vvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeetttteeecccccc!

I had my ATLP Base installed and the car seemed bit laggy and hesitant to go. I reset the ECU, drove around for a bit, and everything was back to normal.

I thought this was a joke at first, but I had to try it. I backed out on the street and took off and could feel a large difference in the throttle response.

Forgive me, for I haven't read this whole thread, but is this confirmed to be an automatic only thing? I've read numerous posts on this that suggest it has to do with the throttle body, not the transmission. Maybe it adjusts it so the accelerator position essentially corresponds to a lower throttle percentage? I dont know, anyway, how do we know this doesn't apply to manual transmission TLs?

Tried it in the manual. Doesn't work. Throttle response is fixed, and pretty decent IMO.
I think it's stupid that the auto "adjusts" to give you worse throttle response if you don't drive it hard. I reset the ecu in my Dad's 5AT a while ago. It made a significant improvement but probably still not as snappy as the response on my 6MT.

I love this f-ing forum and everyone here!!! Just saw this and didn’t even get past the 2nd how to reset I went down stairs opened my garage, followed the steps, pulled out of my drive way and I was in love every time I pressed on the gas! Night and day difference... I love still learning ish about my TLS.


P.S. If you listen closely after you let your foot off the gas and wait the two mins you will hear "TWO CLICKS" the first one I believe is the throttle closing, "as in at the electronic sensor box..." and the 2nd must be the reset??? Either way I tried it three times total, and to ensure I popped my hood up on the last two and my buddy confirmed something is clicking only when I do the combo...

I havent read the whole thread, however anyone know if we can by pass this over all? I will look through the thread tomorrow but maybe someone can quick start the question

What is a "5mt"?

Look around on your shift knob. You should find another forward gear. That should make a big difference.

Never new ECU adapts to your driving style. I just bought mine used a few months back, I'm so glad I did this!

You have got to be kidding? The reset ECU threads have been around and around and you have never taken the 2 1/2 minutes to even see if this might work? The first time I read one of these I ran out to the car and reset it, after all you do not even need to pop the hood and get dirty.

Now watch, you will reset it and not even notice a difference...

Did this once, right after I got the car. Forgot all about it when I went to the dragstrip. So my times are by the "learned throttle" if you will, put atleast 2k miles on it since reset. Anyways, next time I go, I will try to remember to reset it in the staging lane, see if it makes any difference lol

I doubt you would see any difference, since nothing changes under full throttle.

The most noticeable difference comes when you're driving around under light acceleration, and what used to be 10% throttle turns into 20%.

For those people that love this ECU Reset, you will really love having new pressure switches.

I recently replaced my pressure switches. To me, the new switches made a big difference. The difference is identical to why I was always performing the ECU Reset. But now that I have replaced the switches, they are like having a permanent ECU Reset on steroids. So, I don't do the ECU Reset anymore. I like the new switches so much that I plan to replace them once per year just to keep them fresh.

The difference that the new switches made (the same as for the ECU reset) is as follows.

1) Under extremely light acceleration, the trans will shift-up sooner into the next gear.

2) The throttle seems more progressive, requiring less travel to receive a given amount of acceleration.

Just did this reset on our '07 TL and it absolutely makes a difference in...

- idle speed: car idles at 800 rpm now
- throttle responsiveness: car just feels like it wants to go sooner

Man, I really want to try this ECU reset thing out. I am the second owner of this TL. I don't know how the previous owner drove and seems obvious I should reset my ECU, but it looks like gas mileage goes down slightly according to some members here. Is everyone getting the same results? My mileage is low at the moment (15 MPG) and don't want to make it worse. I guess there is no way to 'undo' a reset?

I did this in my 08 TL Type S and there was a huge difference. Much more responsive at low RPM's and low gears seemed more "Peppy". This post should be a sticky somewhere. I learn something new from this forum each day. Thanks.

No radio or seat settings are lost. You would need to disconnect the car battery to achieve that level of a reset.
