quick question about the p/n. is the 3rd pressure switch 28610-ray-003 and the 4th pressure switch 28600-ray-003n or is it the other way around? planning to do this later toniightt

i didn't think to buy any "o-rings" or "10mm gaskets" for my pressure switches and transmission filter.

are they mandatory? i already purchased my 3rd and 4th pressure switch along with the trans filter, am i still safe to swap out my old switches and filter without using a new "o-ring" or "gasket" ?

You should be able to re-use the existing units, if they aren't too dinged up.

Just replaced my switches on my 06 tl. the gears switch somewhat smoother. =) . cost me $108 at honda dealer (including 2 swithces, 2 washers, tax).

Acurazine rocks, as usual. I have to thank the OP of this thread for making this excellent DIY. And a huge thanks to I Hate Cars for bringing this procedure to everyone's attention. I just changed my 3rd and 4th gear switches and WOW! No my car didn't suddenly feel like it had a 7 speed transmission, but the difference after doing this is so amazingly noticeable. I never even realized how horrible some of the shifts were until I felt what they're supposed to feel like. I only did a 15 minute drive, but I no longer cringe at sloppy down shifts or feel the car lurch forward on an up shift. The car felt like it was just "ready" when you stepped on it. The shifts just feel firm and the way that they're supposed to. This might be one of the best things I've done to the car since I've owned it. Thank you guys.

I wondered about the same thing as well... I believe the 28610 part is the 3rd like you have correctly identified. Hopefully the parts fit differently so that there is no way to mistakenly switch them.

Ok, just need to know if on 07 type-s. The 4th gear switch is the one on the bottom of the trans by the vin tag? I assume the two that you can access from the engine bay would be the 3rd gear switches.

This applies to 07/08 type-s owners only.

Those of you that have replaced all 3 switches. Are the two switches that are accessible from the engine bay both 3rd gear switches? If so, I would assume the one on bottom of the tranny by the vin tag is the 4th gear?

The gear numbers are embossed on the actual transmission itself. It'll be hard to miss when you go to replace them. I'm not sure on the last part though- 07+ TLs have a different procedure than the 04-06s.

When do a parts search for 3rd Gear Pressure Switch (28600-P7Z-003) It comes up for vehicles older than a 2004. Can I use the same switches (28600-RKE-004) for my 2004 TL AT?

i'm not too sure, but i would advise you to go with the pressure switches that people been saying to use since you got a 04-06 model.

you should be able to find the part # on the first 2 pages of this thread...

I was told by AcK and a local dealership the opposite. There are 2x4th gear and 1x3rd gear. #12 are 4th gears, #13 is third gear. Local dealership part rep. told me the switches have different color marks so you can match them with whatever you currently have on the car.

anyone else wanna confirm on the 07-08 issue here?

He put in 2-3rd gear pressure switches and 1-4th??? no wonder his transmission has issues. It is indeed 2-4th and 1-3rd.

yeah I was really confused as well since there's not much info on 07-08 trans in this thread. But the thing is, are the switches really have color marks on them

How much trust would you place in dealerships to switch these out for you? I bought the switches for my 07. But looks a bit complicated. (Mind you I installed my intake)... or maybe I should just do it myself. I work better if there is a video tutorial though.

I thought it was the other way around. I got the parts haven't installed them yet. I have read conflicting information on this thread.

Hey guys, damn I JUST realized the 07/08 diagram is for the Type-S only.

I purchased the parts, two 3rd and one 4th.

Questions:

1. Base TL 07 have same transmission diagram? meaning two 3rd and one 4th
2. Also, I purchased the sensors mentioned here... but realized it's for type-s tranmission, are those the same sensors for my 07 Base?

The 5AT transmission for 07-08 Base and Type S should be the same (except type-s has a cooler), which means the same diagram. The posted diagram is indeed for Type-S, but here is the Base 08 diagram

As you can see for the switches, they are only numbered differently (Type-S diagram is 2 of #12 and 1 of #13, Base diagram is 2 of #13 and 1 of #14). Part numbers are all the same.

The only unclear issue here is which part number is 3rd and which part number is 4th. But that's just for curiosity purpose. Looking at the above link , you can order the parts correctly based on part numbers:

i ordered mines from delray and they came with the RAY description and just got it done over the weekend. i searched the one with p7z and p7w and they came up as 03 CL parts. don't know if thats correct or not.

I think your dealership and Ack might be right. I took a peep into the engine bay and transmission, the one sensor that's easily visible had the number 4 marked on it. Couldn't tell if there were a number on the sensor on the back of it. But judging how the 2 sensors visible from the engine bay are the same, i'd say these are two 4th gear sensors.

BTW, how to move the aftermarket intake out of the way? it's like one solid piece... I tried to loosen the bolts for the shroud with the intake on and it's really hard.

I don't have aftermarket intake so I can't help srry! Try searching around if all fails, take pics of your intake and post a thread in Problem/Fix subforum.
Btw, where is the location of the switch that you see marked "4"? Is it about the passenger side? back of trans? or front of trans?
I wonder have he checked in here and realized what he's done wrong.....

Ya I am thinking I might need to take off the front bumper and disconnect the intake at that point. What a pain. Also here is a pic of where one of the 4th gear sensor is. Notice in the second picture the "4"

I don't know how to move my intake out of the way easily. I marked the sensor with the red

Just did mine on my 07 Type-S. The switches are also color coded, the 4th gear switches have a white connector and the 3rd gear pressure switch has a black connector. Acura made it very simple to recognize the differences. Marking it on the transmission housing and the color of the connectors.

Another reminder, these are only supposed to be torqued down to 14 ft-lb. Which is barely hand tight, so if your deciding to make this a routine don't over tighten these. This also makes it easier having to take them off in the tight space we have to work with.

I'd like to thank you all in this site for the info gathered here. I have ordered 10 qts of atf racing fluid, everything for the 105k timing belt replacement, these switches, and the filter, etc today. If it weren't for all of the info on here I wouldn't have known where to start with this car. I am going to be able to buy a ud pulley and a k&n drop in for way less than the labor it would cost for doing these maint. issues. Thanks again... on to another search!!!

So with all this craziness. The switch# labeled 28600-RKE-004 should be the ones installed from the engine bay correct? There should be 2 of these right? For the 07 tls

For those who installed in an 07-08 TL.

Was the difference as noticeable as others have said? I always felt that it did shift inefficiently, but is this the key?
