Out with TL-S in with the BRZ
I know this may come as a shock to a lot of the Kansas City crew and everyone I've met at the Acurazine National Meet-Up. I have gotten rid of my TL
After considering where I wanted to go with the progress of with the TL, I had done all I wanted to do to the car. I felt like if I added any more to the car it wouldn't be my style or character reflected in the car. If that sounds weird its whatever I'm a sentimental kind of guy. Anyway I started to look for other options one afternoon just to go test drive a car, this car I almost bought when I was looking for my TL.
I came across a new 2015 Subaru BRZ Blue Series that afternoon. From the looks of the car I knew this was a special car like my TL it had the IT factor. At the time the original BRZ came out I knew everyone was going to have one. But not everyone was going to have a car like this. I knew there may be a BRZ Turbo in a few years but thats not what I was looking for. I was looking for a car that reminded me of the car I learned to drive stick shift in, the car that my family drove to 249,000 miles. A car that I could throw around a corner and come out on the other end just fine, and sideways if I wanted nothing crazy yet till I reach my ultimate car ownership goal (GTR). A car that was going to be rare because they would only produce a certain amount of them just 1,000 with the options that came with it. And by god this car looks sexy, I know our TL's look great but wow this car gave hope to all those who thought car design had gone to the box cutters.
So as of August 7th 2014, I am the proud owner of a 2015 Subaru BRZ Blue Series Crystal White Pearl. I traded in my TL-S for 13,500 I know I know some of you would have paid more that that I hope. But, the financing was killer and the deal breaker, the rate went from 3.9% for 3 years to 2.49% for 3 years. Which in the long term would make up the difference for not matching me on my trade price I wanted. I also have a 7 year/ 100,000 mile powertrain warranty just in case anything ever goes wrong. That was also put into the deal I felt like I came out on top with the car and was very proud of how the deal went down not the kamikaze dealer style but laid back dealer not pushy.
If you have any questions I'll be glad to answer I won't answer exactly what I paid but it was under 19K for the car. Hope you enjoy my buddy too me out for some shot before I got the BRZ tinted to 20% I'll try to include that at the end. Sorry for big pictures in advance.

Haha yeah I know that feel. I came from an s2000 before I bought my TL and some days I really do miss my s2000. Luckily the steering feel between the s2000 and TL is pretty similar, so that road feel and feel of control holds me over. I swear I reached for a clutch pedal the other day....

Curious what no one has mentions the scion frs? Are they not the same car?
What are the differences? I would think the frs would be cheaper to maintain cause its a Toyota vs. subaru but I dunno...
Is one better than the other?m cause they looks freaky similar ?

Congrats!
Nice pick-up Bat, looks sweet. Congrats!
Someday when the kids are older maybe I'll get back to a coupe...
Ha I know what you mean: True story, I once had to drive a family members AT car after having literally not driving anything other than my MT for about 7 years straight...mind was in the moment jamming out to a song on the radio, I pushed the pedal to the floor with a wide open stretch before me and the engine reved real high so instinct took over, and without a though my left foot slammed down on the (clutch) left side of the overside BRAKE pedal! lol
And I didn't like tap it I SLAMMED down so went from about 65 to about 15 in a tire screeching blink of an eye! (pre-abs this was) LoL
If there'd have been anyone behind me I'd surely have been rear-ended.
Fortunately I merely felt really embarrassed, looked around, saw no one near me, laughed at myself and drove on 'normally'
Pretty much a joint developed vehicle:

Like Rev said above, joint cooperation on making the FRS/BRZ. There are slight differences that are all cosmetic. But pretty much mechanically, it's the same car.

frs and brz are the same car, but brz has more features, but also more expensive. plus scion dealers have no haggle pricing and subaru dealers can mark it to whatever they want, so the brz is usually quite a bit more than the frs. the brz is always a better car if money isnt an issue.

Brz is nicer hands down.
Headlights look better. I believe there is a difference in drls.
I'd rather own a suby over a yota (not much reasoning but given the choice in a sports car I go sti or supra personally. )
Also you see frs constantly here in so cal. Brz is a lot harder to find since it's mainly mommy bought cars and they'll buy the frs over the brz.

Check out this article and video for the differences. They are there. No company could put out a copy cat of another. Dan straight suby did what they felt would draw their own crowd.
Small differences but they are there.

From inside it really doesn't feel small you see from the outside and you say to yourself mans that small but when your driving it and taking corners like a go cart. Space doesn't really matter much IMO at that point.
I went through each dealer of Toyota FRS and Subaru BRZ. Toyota dealer in town are like vultures and subaru dealer are the opposite price wise subaru showed MSRP. They were actually lower price at the dealer than MSRP no markup. I went with Subaru because of the longterm life of their vehicles, parents old subi wouldn't die we we tried.
Performance wise the BRZ/FRS you can make it however fast you want it do be, with the weight of the car you don't need to blow a lot of money to make it quick, just if you want a turbo or supercharger that's all you'll need for power.

Congrats! Was about to do this about a month ago, got an approval from Penfed for 27k for a BRZ but couldnt strike a deal on the amount they would give me for the TL as a trade in..
Was planning on selling my track car and dump that money into Suspension, Rims and Tires and use it as my daily and weekend track toy..
Enjoy the BRZ!!!

Nice pickup. love the look of the black wheels on the white car.
How many miles did your TL have when you traded it in?
Did they give you any hassle about your trade in having mods?

Almost 103K, they didn't hassle me on the mods they said it could affect the value. And it was going to be tough to sell, which wasn't my problem anymore. Got a pretty good deal I think

Really, the best way to think about FR-S and BRZ, is to not think about it as one vs the other. The FR-S is essentially the base trim. If you want features like heated seats, push button start, etc, you have to go to the BRZ.
I'd really like to see a higher displacement BRZ. Maybe an extra 0.5 liter on the current engine, or a Toyota I6.

Dealers were throwing crazy markups, like $5k, on the BRZ when it first came out, due to short supply. AFAIK, those markups are gone. BRZ will still cost more because it has more features.

Apparently they use slightly different engines, the Toyota uses the FA, Subaru FB.

Have you checked the "Car Talk" section? We have 4 or more BRZ owners here.
No FRS though... reason is kind of mentioned up here^ I guess.
Here is mine.
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...=909833&page=7
And they both use same engine/transmission

You're right they both use the FA engine. I'm not sure why I thought they were slightly different engines.
It also appears Subaru has already been testing a 296hp version of FA engine. Can't find out what exactly it'll be put in. I'm hoping it'll be the BRZ, and not just a WRX replacement.

Much better than old WRX, less lag of course since Twin Scroll but still not responsive as non turbo FA which BRZ has.
BRZ is perfect as is though.. I have to say that. There is a reason why they didn't put turbo on the new Blue Edition.
