Help with trunk nav unit!!!!
I have a blank backlit navi screen on my 05 rl. Was told it should be the nav disk reader in the trunk. Found one at a junkyard from a 06, but the part number is 39540-sja-a310 instead of my 39540-sja-a010. Are they compatible????????

It should fit. The only difference between the 05 & 06 is the 06 gives you the option to add the OEM back up camera accessory. I would go w/ an 06 NAV unit and if you want, you can add the camera down the line.

I know the 06 NAV unit will get your NAV working in your 05 RL if that’s the problem. As for the back up camera, upon further reading, it looks like the back up camera may not work (See post #164 & 165 on link below). If it doesn’t work, your best bet would be an aftermarket camera set up using NAV tool. Sorry for the confusion.

Be careful when you buy a navigation unit. Several members have had success buying one on ebay but not me. I bought a 08 navi unit but it does not read any discs. I waited too long to install it so I can not return it. I contacted another seller on ebay but his unit does not come with a disc either. I have not moved forward with attempting to get another one yet.
So if you buy one, make sure beforehand that you can return it. I don't want the same thing to happen to you.

Ok, got it in today. Screen turned on, but needs a nav code. The nag code for my car doesn't match of course. Can this be reset? I called the junkyard, they are gonna go see if they can find the code if there is a manual.

If they are unable to find it, you can call up your local Acura dealer and ask them for it. They'll need the serial number on the back of the unit. That's what I had to do for my NAV unit.

BOOM!!!! Acura Dealer hooked it up over the phone! All fixed, $200 was way better then paying alpine. Plus I scored a year newer map disk.

If your unit is stuck in the "downloading software" mode that means it failed it's last firmware update from disk.. or it suffered a catastrophic software failure.
1. Check the disk. Make sure it is the correct disk for 05' I'm assuming 05 as you are daze05rl I can tell you exactly what it should look like depending on what year the disk is. I have them all. Also check for damage, scratches, etc... If the drive makes odd noises when ejecting or when you first start up the car.. the DVD drive is bad. They are crap to begin with.
2. If the disk looks good then start the car with no disk and see what it says. If it is still stuck in firmware update mode then try 3.
3. With the car on and the screen showing the "check disc" message push the Cancel + Map/Guide + Menu buttons at the same time for a sec or two. This puts it in diag mode.
Go to Unit Check then Nav. It will run diagnostics on your Navi unit. There is also a button in the bottom right labeled Clear Mem. Click this when you are done. *BUT*
This will clear all your settings, addresses, etc... in the Nav unit. Not your phone stuff, that is a different unit. So have your code handy for the Nav and be prepared to put in your addresses again. You can back up all your data to a PC card or a PC card adapter with a CF card in it. No larger than 2 gig though. The slot in under the disc slot inside the door of the Nav unit. This function is also accessible from the diag screen. I can do some detailed instructions if you want with pics if you are uncomfortable with it all. No insult intended, I've no idea what you are comfortable doing.

wow those things those are great instructions I'm about to go outside now and try all the things you told me to try but I should have said that this all started when I put 2 12 inch subwoofers lol

I follow all the instructions but it still says please check disk also does not let me go to diagnostic mode seems that it can't read the disk or I'm not sure if its damaged but since I've heard some people screen don't even turn on I'm wonder what's messed up on mine

Sorry for not getting back. I didn't get an update on the thread. Two things. A. Your nav unit is toast or B. The DVD transport is toast. Taking it out and opening it up is how to find out. The DVD transport is far more likely to roast than the entire NAV ECU. But.... Did you try no disk? If it still won't let you access diag mode then the NAV ECU is done. radio and Temp controls should work just fine and display on the info panel above the LCD.

I have the backlit black nav screen also. Here are my questions, if i can find an 06 or 07 unit, it seems like it will work if i can get the nav code...what if it doesnt have a disk, can i use the 05 disk in the newer unit?
Yeah, $200 is better than the alpine run around.

Hey Dazel05rl, Did you ever get this situation resolved? I just started having the same issues. I didn't make any mods to the car. All factory. Display started freezing up one day, then in the middle of driving it started with the "please wait downloading software". Actually came back on and worked for half a day or so, but then back to "please wait..." followed by "please check disc". Would love some help with this. Thanks
