Plasti-Dipped Wheels

I can't believe I'm asking this because most of the wheels I see done like this look awful but has anyone plasti-dipped their wheels anything other than matte black? I have a set of 19" wheels that are a little bit flashier than I'd like so I'm looking at my options to coat them in something so they aren't so shiny.

Anyone have any pictures of their wheels done that actually came out nice?

What about matte clear? Mine are done black but one of these days I'm gonna switch to gunmetal or something like that.

I didn't know they had matte clear that might be exactly what I'm looking for.

+1 for matte clear, will do pretty much what you're looking for, reduce the gloss and also adds some protection to the rim

+1 for powder coating. $100 bucks or so a wheel. Doesn't peel off. You could go for the simple gunmetal look to keep it clean.

I dipped mine in Anthracite True Metallic. I did it because I had some blemishes in the finish on my OEM wheels and when attempting to fix them, I made them worse.

These have about 7 coats of Anthracite and 3-4 coats of glossifier on them. A good resource for Plastidip is www.dipyourcar.com. The forums have lots of pictures of different colors.

I will say, they ARE starting to peel in spots, but that is because I have had a lot of work done on the car, including new tires. I am going to peel and dip them again soon.

I will try to get a close up picture for you later today.

I definitely don't want to powdercoat or paint the wheels with anything permanent because they're in perfect shape and nearly brand new. The problem is I love how they look sitting still but once the car is rolling and the sun hits them they almost look chrome to me so I'd like a temporary solution, matte clear sounds like the winner for me. Thanks for the help guys.

I've seen people vinyl wrapping their wheels as well.
IDK which one has a higher resistance to heat and chipping tho...

I had one heck of time wrapping my spoiler....
One thing I have learned is that it's a job for at least 2 people.
