18-25 mph shaking help!

Hey everyone. My 2005 Acura TSX (6 spd Manila) started having some issues. Had a bad highway vibration, and a not-so-bad vibration at lower speeds. Got my tires balanced and rotated, didn’t do anything. So I got both of my axles replaced. After that, no more highway vibration, but the low end vibration is now much worse! It vibrates from 18-25 mph only if I’m in a gear. It doesnt matter what gear I’m in either. But if I’m in neutral it doesn’t shake. Took it to Acura to get it looked at again, they said I need new tires. This doesn’t make sense to me because it only happens when I’m in gear, but I guess it could possibly be the tires. I don’t wanna get new ones and the vibration still be there, because my tires don’t seem that bad. Anyone had this problem before, and can anyone help me? Thank you !!!

On the side of your tires look for an oval with 4 digits in it. What are they?

An out-of-round tire will balance and produce your symptoms. Lift wheels off ground and spin by hand looking for a "wobble".

OTOH, I had CV axles (Autozone) that produced a vibration under acceleration at slow speed, but not at steady speed.

good luck

yeah, ive heard that cheap axles will do this. but the thing is, OEM axles are like $500 each side from a dealer, and my car already had the problem before i did the axles. so im very confused

Any update on this one? I just replaced axles with aftermarket. Everything is WAY smoother, but there's a touch of wobble at about 25 mph.

Did you try replacing the intermediate shaft or carrier bearing?

lol nope, just living with the vibration. I put a $500 OEM axle on the right (passenger) side and it fixed the problem for like a week and then the vibration came right back, which makes no sense that it would only fix it temporarily. I can't bring myself to buy another $500 axle for the other side just for it to MAYBE fix the problem. I've talked to someone from HeelToeAutomotive who is very experience in this issue and said that the intermediate shaft is very unlikely the problem, and that the other axle might be the problem, but like I said, I cant bring myself to buy another $500 axle. I was planning on buying a used OEM axle off ebay and seeing if that will fix the problem. It really sucks because this vibration sucks a lot of joy out of my car. Good luck to you and I hope you can solve your issue, let me know if you find out anything!

Bummer! Good to know about the OEM axle. I might try the carrier bearing and see how it goes—it's a cheap fix. Seems like an annoying issue with these, for sure. I still have the factory axles, so might try installing the Heeltoe kit at some point. I'll keep you posted on progress.

Ben, your vibrations are probably due to tire separations if tires are 5/6 years or older.
