Reverse LED VS OEM

Just thought i would post a picture of the difference between the LED reverse lights and the stock reverse lights.

OEM on the left, LED on the right

Sweet!
I think that looks great. One thing though... those aren't bright enough to blind somebody at night are they? I know that LED's are bright with output, but they just dont throw the light out very far.

Example... reverse lights believe it or not actually serve a purpose. Besides warning people that you are backing up, they also light up the rear a little bit at night. Or at least that's what they were originally intended for. By swapping out the halogen bulbs for LED's, do you find that it lights up the rear less? since LED's dont throw as far?

Also, can you share where you got the modules? Are they drop-in or do they require modification?

Its pure white direct on. At an angle, it has a blue tint. I've had mine in for a few years and no trouble at all.

Would you describe the output as brighter or dimmer than stock? (For both red tails and white reverse lights please)

Had the 15-LED matrix bulbs for a while as my reverse lights.

They definitely looked cool, but have somewhat less light output. Had to switch back...

The white is more distinct, but I used a 7443 bulb and bent the clip over, so the 1st and 2nd stage bulbs are lit at the same time. Mine is slightly more dim only because the LEDs are firing straight back and have less reflection than a normal bulb.

I did this mod as well a few weeks ago, I can tell you that there's no problems at all with brightness and they look very cool.

TSX420J, what LEDs did you use for your tail lights? I'm looking for ones that will be bright enough, the ones you have don't look like they're too dim, but they also don't look like they have radially mounted LEDs (which is something that I'd want.

I have

those in mind...although I'm not sure if they will be bright enough either. But I do like that they have radially mounted LEDs. Those are avalible from superbrightleds.com

One more thing...have you done your turn signals yet?

Thanks for the speedy reply.

I have the break lights done, I just have to do my tail lights since the lights I bought for the tail lights I bought were the wrong type. I want to get ones that are bright enough and give off more than just a small point of light...if you understand what I mean.

I believe it's 15-LED 7440

One additional question, I remember someone said something about this before, but I couldn't find the post.
Is it better to have a white light behind red or red behind red?

Yeah. Just pull out the stock bulb and put this one in. No modification is needed

Eh does anyone know where to get the light for the pull down mirror in the front?

I want to turn them into white LED too. I don't like the orange look at all.

I believe it says 7649 12V 2W [ |---------| ]

Don't think so. In order to get them to flash like they're supposed to, you need to connect a ballast resistor (about 4 ohms) across each bulb lead to simulate the load of an incandescent lamp. The LED bulbs draw so little current that if you don't do this, the flasher circuit thinks the bulb is burned out and makes it flash really fast. More work than I have patience for, in any case.

There is a 16-LED here (Light Tower):
http://autolumination.com/7443_7440.htm

maybe this can be brighter. Have anyone tried it yet?

http://mysite.verizon.net/resow073/TSXLED/

I found this

Taillights/Stop lights
7443 - 15 LED Bulb - Red - $6.99 each, I got 4 for a total of 27.96

Reverse lights
7440 - 15 LED Bulb - White - $8.99 each, I got 2 for a total of 17.98

Do you think that is all?

It works, but you need load resistors. I had them in my old car but have not had a chance to wire them into my TSX yet. The problem is that LEDs draw so little power that the vehicle thinks the light is actually burned out, you need load resistors so that the car thinks there's actually a functioning bulb in. If you don't have the resistors, the light will flash at about double the regular speed.

You can get the resistors from www.superbrightleds.com

For anyone who is curious, the LEDs are more than bright enough, I have them installed in every light except for the turn signals as I haven't wired the load resistors yet. They look great and are very bright. However, make sure you get the bulbs with the radially mounted LEDs so that it makes use of the reflectors and sends light out in more than one direction or your lights may not be bright enough.

Also, for anyone who is unsure of which bulbs to use, visit here. That site has the correct bulbs to use for the TSX, that link is for the 2005 TSX, I'm not sure there are any differences between the models. Be aware that one bulb type on that site is incorrect, it lists the tail lights as 7440 type when they are really 168. Do not buy 7440 LEDs for the tail lights, they will not fit. However, the rest of the lights are correct (including the stop/brake lights, they really are 7443.)

It's a 168, but they're a pain in the butt to replace so good luck with them. You have to go in through the front wheel wells.

They look very cool though when it's all done. I bought my LEDs from superbrightleds.com and they look great. I always stand back and admire my car every time I lock/unlock it with the fob just because the side markers look really cool when they come on, the deep red/amber color of the markers is awesome with the LEDs.
