Rear main seal

2007 Type S 170k

dealer says may need rear main seal soon $2800
no oil on ground yet. Anyone else have this problem.
How long before it gets worse. Maybe time to get rid of car as much as I love it.

$2800 lol. I paid $3000 for a full trans rebuild and he did the rear main seal since the trans was already out.

It will get worse slowly.

$2800 is steep.

Find another shop whom you feel is competent.

Make sure your problem is indeed a leaky rear main seal.

If it is...see if they will give you a better price than $2800. Use only genuine Honda/Acura parts, though.

Even if it is $2800....how much does a new car cost? Without even googling it, I can tell you its more than $2800.

Good idea Wizurd….if rear main seals needs replacement….have tranny rebuilt simultaneously….and vice versa….tranny goes have seal replaced.

Over the course of a year mine went from barely noticeable damp spot under the transmission bellhousing to a fresh dime size spot on the driveway each day. Loss of quantity was not enough to worry about between oil changes. I managed to replace mine myself over a long weekend because that's how I get my kicks, but I probably wouldn't have done anything about it if I had to pay someone what you were quoted. The going rate in my area is about half as much for that job.
