2015 Acura TLX Wishlist
It's probably a long shot, but I thought it would be good for there to be a compiled thread of a wish list for the TLX. However useless this thread might be, it would do Acura some good to read this list and see what some their fans (or soon to be ex-fans) want in their next vehicle, and for Acura to stay competitive against the competition.
Here's my list again from a prior post:
1) Aggressive styling, yet not overdone, and get rid of the excess chrome on the grill. Make it more mainstream acceptable but NOT dull.
2) Take styling cues from the upcoming NSX and trickle it down to the TLX
3) 7spd DCT
4) The 290ish turbo 4 engine, combined with SH-AWD, and 6MT or 7DCT in a coupe (I would easily take this over the S5 and 435).
5) Flat trunk w/15 cubic ft space with folding rear seats
6) Touch screen nav w/live traffic and actual weather temps/forecast
7) Forced ventilated rear vents
8) Eliminate the rear seat middle hump
9) True bi-xenon headlights
10) More options (ie. HUD, Google maps, rear heated seats, pano sunroof).
11) Revamp the voice recognition so it has near instantaneous response time without excessive delay; the current system is useless.
IMHO the above options would not add excessive cost to the TLX, should be economically and design feasible, and satisfy the pickiest of consumers.

^^ I agree with several of your list. The hump will be there if they don't do a SH-AWD without electric motors though.
Mine would be be:
1. An aggressive styling....after seeing the A3 in person on Monday, Acura should do better with their design...enough with the excuses...if you can't come up with something original and sexy, then pull a Hyundai and copy someone for god sake!
2. Heated steering wheel! At least for us in Canada.
3. Amazing accessories! PLEASE and Thank You!
4. After reading the RLX forum, can we have electronic that works and I hope they don't place that dual screen, but if they do, please give us acceptable response time.
5. No "ticking" moon roof.
6. Better USB integration
7. Refer to #1 IN CASE ACURA DIDN'T GET IT!

I agree with both lists for the most part. I don't think I have anything more to add. Docboy about #9 on your list... I don't think there will be bi-xenons or HIDs on the TLX. Acura will probably use their Jewel Eyes headlights like in the MDX and RLX.

Advanced

1-Ventilated Seats not just in the Advanced Pkg
2-Panoramic Sunroof
3-Heated Steering Wheel
4-Some better MPG's
5-Better NAV
6-LED Headlights
7-Heads up display
8-Built In "Smart" Remote Start (w/ climate controls and junk)

I like most of this....
For me...
1-Ventilated Seats not just in the Advanced Pkg Yes Please!
2-Panoramic Sunroof Personally I don't need this and they seem like gimmicks to me. The MKZ has this as a $3,000 option. The additional structure needed to stiffen the body with this huge sunroof lowers the headliner so much that I hit me head on it. I'm only 5'8"
3-Heated Steering Wheel I don't need but I understand some do
4-Some better MPG's Given
5-Better NAV Unfortunately not going to happen. But if they could license the Google Voice algorithm that would be awesome and may make the voice commands workable
6-LED Headlights I think this was already announced in the press release
7-Heads up display Yes in color please!
8-Built In "Smart" Remote Start (w/ climate controls and junk) Would be nice. Standard on MKZ, but can't control the a/c or seats.

My brother and I pontificated on this a couple weeks ago for our blog:
http://www.eastwestbrothersgarage.co...acura-tlx.html
The general gist of it is:
- Turbocharged 4-cylinder making in the 250 hp range (need to leave plenty of room for the jump up to the NA 3.5L DI motor)
- HUD as standard equipment or included in the Technology package or higher trims
- Continued availability of a 6-speed manual, even if only in a Type-S or similar performance model
- Upgraded brakes for the performance model
- Aggressive styling and 18-inch wheels as standard, 19-inch wheels included with Technology package or higher trims
- EPS tuned similar to the now outgoing TSX
I don't feel like that is asking for too much.

All my cars have OEM navigation. They're all Toyota/Lexus ('13 Entune, '11 Pre-entune, and '13 Enform) and my '12 TL w/ tech. The Toyota systems are really good. Everything works great. Apps sync up to your phone perfect and it updates PoIs using your phone's network. Which is great (you can search using Bing for stuff around you using the car).
Lexus Enform has the same system, but it's using the little mouse type device, not the screen. And I have to say HIDs are better than Touch screens. You can concentrate on the road more, and you don't really have to "reach" anywhere, everything is at your finger tips. Just move your hand a bit in the direction you wanna go and you're there. Acura's Nob is almost as good as the mouse thing Lexus has going on, but touch screens aren't all that IMO, and it would definitely be a step in the wrong direction. Unless you can get an extremely responsive screen like Tesla has.

Definitely retune the EPS. The current EPS in the 4G TL 6MT has almost no feel and zero feedback, and is pretty lifeless unless the car is at full WOT. It's pretty precise though, I'll give it that. Even the 1G RDX and 2G RDX has more steering feel than the TL.
Also, retune the clutch. No feel, difficult to tell where the engagement point is.

Some of my main ones...
1. Folding rear seats
2. Air conditioned front seats
3. Eliminate categories in navigation system (so when I enter "Sears" as destination I don't have a dozen categories to search through to find the one I need) -- pisses me off to no end
4. Most importantly, keep the 6MT!!! -- and eliminate the clutch delay valve

1)Better Styling that is elegant and sporty
2)Combination fuel efficient and powerful engine on par with BMW 328i (23/35+ mpg), sub 6 second 0-60
3)Sporty and nimble handling in a car that is roomy but not large for city driving
4)Hybrid option in the 40mpg+ range for me to think about, Also Sport AWD hybrid 30+mpg with the more impressive power options for the alternative market
5)Xenon/LED/laser headlights, just not halogen
6)Tech integration compatible with current market competitors

I think there is one area where a touchscreen is better than either a knob or mouse style setup and that is with long name entries, such as for streets or phone book contacts. While the voice recognition continues to improve, it is still not quite a perfect solution either. I like it when there is a combination of logical physical buttons, touchscreen access, and some form of a joystick controller in conjunction with smartly implemented voice recognition to make the most of the infotainment options in a car.

But I suspect there will be no word on this on the 14th. Probably something that will come out later on. I agree it is not a very glamorous or juicy feature but it is very practical and I hope they include them just like the Accord that it is built on.

Not to derail this thread but you need to do your searches by keyword by distance to travel, then search on Sears. If you start from the categories first then you are searching the whole data base and find a Sears 800 miles away. I find it quickest if I search by phone number if I happen to have it.

If wishes were fishes... I might as well go for broke.
1. Hybrid tech similar to the Accord 40MPG with 0-60 in 7 seconds or less.
2. No beak or a very easily removable beak.
3. Better roadside noise reduction
4. A cooled cupholder
5. A padded sunglass holder (less rattle)
6. A padded glove compartment
7. Auto dimming side view mirrors.
8. Left and right side vehicle detection (like the accord but for both sides)
9. A power outlet in the glove compartment that with a switch stays on with the car off
10. Truly cooled, ventilated seats.
11. An included bottle of touch up paint.
12. LED day runner lights.
13. The most F'n advanced GPS possible with both touch and joystick options
14. Folding side mirrors

9 - Not sure how that wouldn't drain the battery
10 - That would be great!
12 - The top part of the Jewel Eyes are DRLs. Like maybe the top 1/5th. They are not separate but you can see them in the video. The Prototype appeared to have linear LED fog lights. That would be pretty distinctive but likely to not happen.

I'll keep my list simple, and mostly focus on improving the stuff I'm not crazy about on the TSX:
1. enough power and torque in the four cylinder to provide stronger acceleration, especially at highway speeds;
2. better steering feel, especially on-center feel on the highway;
3. better base audio system;
4. less road noise; and, to keep one of the best things about the TSX
5. A FREAKIN' MANUAL TRANSMISSION!
(I will grudgingly concede, however, that if the 8DCT is well-executed, it might be the next best thing to a manual. I might be able to live with it.)
