Haha, i'm actually doing some homework right now. Looking into the selection of the battery so i can buy this week. Leaning towards an Interstate. I'm also going to bring the meth tank with me to work tomorrow to stop at the local hose/fitting place to see what i need to buy to see if i can use the windshield wiper tank for the meth (would like to avoid mounting it in the trunk). I would need to move the suction port and the level sensor to the wiper tank. I will probably also talk to the fitting place about the plastic push fit fittings in the meth kit. I have heard these are the cheapest, least reliable fitting.....maybe it will be cheap to upgrade the fittings.

I'm really dying to start the install but i get home from work just dead tired. I'm limited to weekends really.

BTW, having looked thru all of the instructions and just mocking up the system on my work table it really does not seem that complicated . Hopefully it isnt when I actually do it.

I should also look for custom intake parts as i hear those are better for the SC kit but living in FL where in the summer it rains like the world is about to end every day i dont dare go full CAI so i probably should stick with SC intake.

Man i'm really itching to get this done.

I've been using an Interstate battery for almost 2 years now with no issues. Good luck!

i notice they dont sell the Interstate batteries at the std auto parts stores (Advanced, Autozone, Pep Boys) so i'll stop in at a Tires Plus, Midas and Firestone seem to be the only ones in my area so i'll stop in tomorrow and get one.

The fun has begun. Started by using my lunch break too buy some fittings i need too use the wiper tank as my meth tank. When i got home i hooked up the meth system on the floor just too see it work. It sprays a good amount and the pump is very quiet. I also realized which way the level switch is closed & open and i realized it floats easily so I'll need too mount it a ways up too get good level sensing.

Then i thought i would do some part of the SC install so i started by installing the smaller battery. Took a little while but all went as planned.

Anyways this is the photo section so tomorrow I'll take some pics in the daylight.

PS-this stuff is really so freakin interesting. I'm taking my time with every component and dont install it until i feel i fully understand how it works. Learning Alot.

Update of how my TL is currently looking:

I know, i know....the engine bay is hideously dirty but after witnessing many people have some funky engine issues right after an engine wash i vowed never to clean an engine again and it shows. Once i get the SC in there i will have to figure out a way to safely clean up 9 years of build up.

Anyways, what a pretty huge gap is made by just moving a battery and eliminating all that intake crap makes huh!!

SC build has begun and its a lot of fun and plenty to learn.

Used prices are finally becoming somewhat affordable. I am really happy with mine so far as it was barely used/low miles, came with all of the supporting mods (injectors, meth kit, wide band sensor), extremely well packaged for shipment, well labeled for re-mounting.....just an all around smooth buy from a seller i trust. Really lucky.

And soon this will be whining SOB with PCD's, S/C, meth kit, full cat back.....gonna be beastly!

Its really close to the setup 04accordcpe had ( check his thread here ) so i would expect similar results (approx 350WHP/300TQ) except of course his 2 door accord would be lighter.

MAS of all folks I know only a few have gone beyond 350whp

something which will help you get there will be porting and polishing all the bends/air paths to and from the SC...HBP (high boost pulley) and injectors and a super good tune

^^^ I hear ya, I'm only throwing out some ballpark numbers based on what I read. I guess I'll know for sure when i get tuned. Actually I'm really not 100% focused on just hp because i know it will be pretty fast either way and i just want a faster street car (i wont be visiting a track or strip any time soon). Well see were i end up. Today i mounted back the stock filter (without extra tubes) just to be able to use the car again (the truck gas bills are starting too bug me, haha). Will post up some more pics of my temporary semi modded status

Effin A right. I'm absolutely in for updates!
You dang lie...money is too tight for a PC but not a supercharger!?!?
Sounds like the kinda deal I would have felt comfortable jumping on. The way I see it, with no more car payments, that money is well spent to keep the car fun for the future. SC is the way to go, IMO. And I agree, with all my mods, I don't REALLY care about drag times, or even HP on a dyno. All I care about is how it feels to drive it.

Ok, so when are we doing this swap? your SC for my arsenal of detailing goods?

^^^^ Exactly right, as far as i'm concerned cars suffer way too much at the drag strip or at the track and i didnt decide to put this money into the car to start breaking it. I've taken way too good care of it until now to kill it. I want reliable, solid power addition and a S/C seems to fit the bill. And this purchase was really too good to pass up because of the supporting mods and because i know the seller only used good stuff and took really good care of his stuff (besides being low miles). I have also dealt with him before and knew i could trust him with such a significant exchange of money. I wasnt even really looking to buy, we were just talking and i threw out my normal "someday i would like to buy one" and he said i might just sell mine. After thinking long and hard i jumped on it...didnt hurt that the christmas bonus had just come in and also unfortunately i had a very young family member die about that same time and i got more of that "what the hell, you only live once" going thru my head so i pulled the trigger. I'm actually dying to have it all installed and feel the power BUT i'm only going to going to experience this whole install once so i'm really making a point to enjoy and learn everything i can when installing every component. Really interesting stuff.

Also you got it exactly right.....all mod $$ is currently only going towards the S/C build. Already dished out the money for the whole kit and supporting mods but i still have a couple related purchases in the air (smaller battery and tune are just a couple) so no monies will be spent on anything else until this is finished.

PS-----I'm really expecting the power increase to be significant because right now with PCD's, full cat-back, stock intake minus extra tubing and cool ambient temps its running great...sooo smooth and easy to 100mph....cant wait to see how the S/C will improve on that. I'm already expecting i will need to upgrade the tires because the Bridgestones i have i like because of the look but they are not the grippiest tires so here is something else that will also consume more $$ soon BUT its gonna be fun and you only live once and we're not guaranteed to get to old age, unfortunately Stephanie recently taught us that lesson. So if your not taking food off the table or delaying rent/mortgage mod on guys!

I'm sorry to hear of your loss...
Honestly, the loss of my ex (breakup, not death...) and having to pay her a large sum of money to take her name off the house caused me to realize that the money is going to get spent either way. I was a miser before that and wouldn't treat myself to anything.

Kick butt, man...I look forward to reading a fellow diy'er documenting the process because I'll likely end up going this route too one day.

Your biggest issues will be with using a pressure washer. So don't.

I'd highly recommend you put a grocery plastic bag over your battery and fuse box. Then, soak the entire bay thoroughly with your choice of degreaser...let it sit, take a bucket with car wash soap and a long bristle brush and get in there and scrub, hoses, caps, nooks crannies.

Then, spray down the bay with the hose, don't worry too much, think of how much water goes in there when you hit a puddle in the rain. Take a leaf blower and dry it all off. That'll show you what areas need a finer brush for more detail. Repeat entire process.

When you're done, dry it all again. Then take a microfiber and wipe everthing down with aerospace 303 or any dressing you like. Wipe hoses and all covers and intake/fuse box top. Then, close hood and wash the car. You don't want all that degreaser overspray and splash to sit on the paint.

^^OK, i thought i heard pressure washer from afar was the better than hose because of less water but your explanation makes sense. I dont have a leaf blower but i do have a compressor so i guess i'll use that.

Jeremy, thats a great post on how to clean the engine bay....I think I might do that process word for word

Mas, dont get my wrong when I say HP...I have always taken HP as RELIABLE POWER and this is the main reason I didnt turbo my car...the cars with Turbo (that I have seen) spend more time in the shop that on the road...plus I dont think TL is the best car when it comes to putting the power down....

I only take HP as a way to gauge if the mod was worth the money

If by spending another 200-300 bucks by porting and polishing the setup before you install it, will gain you another 20-ish HP, now that I think is WORTH IT

I couldnt disagree with you there. Only thing is i dont think my wallet can stand another $300 on this....might have to be stage 2 down the road.....maybe stage 2 or PnP and the MDX part and the 4G other part (all that air flow stuff, haha).

^^^ I totally understand...I was just throwing options out there

About intake mods....buddy it never stops....I have had 4 different intake setups and am looking into my 5th setup....but 1 thing, I will tell you is my intake setups have sold even before they have hit the BM (my current setup has 'DIBS' on it already LOL) and I have always gotten what I put into it....am not sure how it works with the SC but am pretty sure there is always someone looking for it

Well stage2 of S/C build might be flow in general......i heard about the PnP, RDX spacer, 4G mani (havent read into it yet though).....and i also heard about a 3in exhaust having potential (with ATLp i believe im already at 2.5 so i dont know how much i would get plus i dont want to get any louder).

Wait, wait...i havent even finished stage1 and now i'm talking about stage2....i gotta stay out of this website.....hahaha

Thanks for the thanks Anil. MAS is cheap with them!

Honestly, I have vowed to make the car sound nice, accelerate well enough...and then just call it a day. You open that door to making more power you'll never be satisfied with the list of additional mods to do. That's why my motor has stayed relatively untouched. I have seen so many people go the SC route and then within a year, move on to a different car and part out. I can't help but kinda attribute that to a disappointment in performance, or a realization that when you get into putting down some real power, the FWD isn't the right platform.

Just thinking out loud, trust me, I wish I had one, MAS.

And BAM, I just fked your whole world up by bolding!

I'm with ya, i really dont think i'll go crazy with the HP mods. As you said putting down the power becomes even more challenging so why keep increasing power to break traction easier. Just want some more power and some whine (and gain some more in-depth technical knowledge).

PS---the regular bolding was getting old......i think i may have just begun my green, italic phase.....hahaha.....goes well with my environmental sensibilities.

@ Mas

I agree Jeremy....FWD might not be the best platform and at times I have a faint thought of selling my car for a S2000 or something around those lines but then when I jump in my car and drive around, that feeling disappears like roaches when you flick the light on....

I do have some set goals...2750lbs weight (which is 1000 less than stock and 250lbs away from where I am) and 350-ish whp....which is around 7.5whp/lb or 6.4bhp/lb....I would like the weight distribution to be around 55F/45R....

I like how my car sounds....its loud (might be a little but too loud) but the idle rumble at stop lights are just awesome....I can fix the loud with a resonator but I do not wanna loose that rumble....I do have a different exhaust setup in mind, lets see how that pans out...

but yeah, looking good, sounds good and 7.5whp/lb....then I will be really done ....I bet MAS and you have similar goals

until then, lets keep wrenching

Glad you didn't take that in a bad way, MAS...wasn't intended as a dig.
Plus, from a dig, I'd lose in a major way once you get that whine. I am FOS, I'd love a SC myself. They sound awesome.

A couple updates.

First, i cleaned the engine bay first thing Saturday morning (thx for the advice on this guys). Here are some before and after pics. It did not end up perfect as i did it fast (less time for something to go wrong) and i did not spray on any shine as i will be working in there soon anyways. You might not even be able to tell it is clean from the crappy cell phone pics but here goes anyways.

Before:

After:

Saturday afternoon I also continued work a bit on the meth kit. I really want to use the wiper tank because i dont want to mess with a meth tank mounted in the trunk to i removed the wiper tank and added the meth kit level sensor (off to the side of the tank) and a fitting for the suction form the meth pump (barb fitting + rubber grommet from HD). Of course i measured A BUNCH OF TIMES before i put a drill to my wiper tank. Leak test (passed). Big thanks to KN_TL and HiSpeed for the guidance on using the wiper tank for meth kit. In the pics below you will see the fittings added to the wiper tank and a special pump mounting plate i had made at work to have a clean, nice, stable place to mount the pump nearby (once again big thx to KN_TL for giving me the idea, answering all my questions and giving my details pics to work from). I hope to mount it all back on the car next weekend.

Then i had to take my eldest son (5yr old Australian Sheperd ) to get a haircut so heres a pic of him enjoying the FL weather. The weekend weather was freaking perfect for outdoors activities (sorry, dont mean to rub it in to those currently dealing with snow and such, haha).

Continuing the outdoors theme wifey and i went for a bike ride to work up a bit of a sweat and once again enjoy the freakin awesome weather (did i already say it was nice out??). Anyways during the bike ride i had to get my Animal Planet on and i jumped from my bike and trekked thru the bush like Steve Irwin to snap a picture of this beast pictured below. Yessssir, a real FL gator and that sucker was like 13ft from me when i took this picture. CRIKEY!!

Anyways, i got out of the bush, finished the bike ride and spent my Sunday evening messing with the wideband O2 sensor. I had the sensor mounted on the exhaust at my usual exhaust spot on Saturday (no pics but i mounted it after 3rd cat and before ATLP resonator). So i started mounting the gauge tonight and i didnt finish but at least it is in place and the cables are down to the footwell. I did wire it in for power just for kicks since it is not connected to the sensor yet. I hope to finish that up this week or upcoming weekend. On to the pics.

Alright, its been fun but i gotta try to get some Zzzzzz, that nasty alarm is going to buzz me in 5hrs. Later!
