Car not starting

Sup all,

Been a while since I posted here but ran into an issue and thought I'd post here to get some opinions..

This past Monday my car wouldn't start, I tried a couple times to start it but the car would turn-over just cranking and trying to start but just wouldn't...the lights inside seemed a bit dim so I decided to change the battery out the next day.

Well, the battery didn't resolve the issue...I can hear the fuel pump on initial key insertion and twist before going to start so I am assuming the fuel system is working, so could it be the starter? I've checked the fuses and all are fine...

I have right around ~150,000miles on the car..

Do you have a multimeter? Check the battery voltage.

just tow it to acura or honda dealer and see what their diagnosis is.

Don't tow it to dealer as your first response.

Who has worked on your car up to now?

I would go with this person or look for a shop that only works on Hondas and Acuras.

Do you have a manual or automatic transmission?

There are diagnostic techniques that a skilled mecanic can use to determine problem. He should be able to isolate whether it is problem with starter or fuel pump or something else.

I have had this problem before with other cars (Not the TSX). My old Hondas used to have distributor and igniter where this was found to be the problem.

I know that TSX does not have distributor and probably not an igniter either.

Other posibilities may be car not recognizing key? Try a duplicate key.

Also, maybe a worn out ignition switch (the thing where you put the key and turn)?

Welcome back and dont be a stranger to this board. I think you have the second highest mileage on this board after Sauceman.

Good Luck and keep us posted.

I've had starting issues with my car either (172k miles, bought it with 169k), though in my case they repeated daily. My car started really hard and the lights blinked. New battery did the job pretty fine. (45a/h, 310amps (euro), Varta).

Also check your ground cable connection maybe it is covered with rust?

If your car cranks, I doubt your starter would have any issues. Have you checked that you got enough oil? Wouldn't hurt to pop a couple spark plugs out to make sure they aren't flooded with gas.

Yep, you got it, said it was flooded with gas, that's what the service advisor said, i'll be seeing the mechanic tomorrow to get the full report...

Here's what I think happened, the battery lost enough power to not start the car and I didn't realize this. I tried a couple times to start the car; even tried a jump-start but this all failed. went to the store and got a new battery and tried quite a few more times to start the car but still didn't work...
I'm guessing my initial attempts at starting the car with the old battery cause enough gas to flood?

picking up the car tomorrow...

Yeah, if you cranked long enough without a proper spark/weak battery, you can flood the sparkplugs. In this case you probably could just dry out the spark plugs.

If you suspect the engine is flooded, crank it with the throttle wide open. I know it's DBW but they should have programmed an open throttle function during cranking.

sorry for double post:

Was the car fixed? Has it given you any more problems?

What I don't understand is if the spark plug holes were flooded with gas, the car should not have allowed you, after a series of cranks, to turn and turn over without starting. I have had this problem before with another car (not the TSX). I think the condition is called "fuel lock"?? Simply, there is so much fuel in the cylinders that the pistons cannot move up and down to try to start. When this happens, the car will not turn over and over. It will just do one quick crank and lock. Almost as if the starter was bad.

Let me know what you guys think.

My car wont start this morning. Only 36k miles on it. I am hoping it's the battery. Will Acura cover this since the car is only 3.5 years old? I bought it new.

Edit: I didn't leave the lights on or anything.
