If you get a 4300K HID set chances are it will come pretty damn close, if not spot on, to matching the stock HIDs. It will definitely come closer than any incandescent bulb.

Guys, do I infer correctly that this discussion is about how the lights look and not about how well they let you see?

I tried the silverstars on my Subaru about 2 years ago.
They did NOT last very long as a DRL. I got less than 4 months life before they burnt out. They were nice when working...but I had to carry 2 spares with me all the time.

On the "bright side" I got really proficient at changing them

The only bulbs I want to replace them with are RAZO's Premium White Zero's. They seem to be the closest to HID lights but they run $56 USD for a pair and from my past experience, they maybe last 1 year. The nice thing about them is they are the brightest bulbs I've ever had and they cut through dirt way better than any of the PIAA's I've had. Problem with Canada is I don't have a ready supply of them and shipping from the States is a bastard.

I used these as main bulbs so DRL, low beams, and high beams. I haven't used them for fogs as it looks like they don't come in any fog applications. Options Auto Salon is the place I get them from.

I used to drive a Nissan Pathfinder. I've used PIAA bulbs for most of my life but I find them expensive and the worst thing about them is when I have a bit of road muck on the lights from winter driving, they seem to be extremely dim. I gave the RAZO's a try once and loved them, bought 4 sets and burnt through them all within the 6 years I had the car. The only reason they use one buld for everything (as I believe someone mentioned it earlier) is that the DRL is running on the same filament as the high beams. I've only been asked by people what bulbs I have in with the RAZO's, the PIAA's are slightly tinged in color but the RAZO's seem to be the whitest I've had and brightest as well.

Anyone know a better place for me to get these bulbs? I'm just trying to avoid paying $56 plus another $25 for shipping. I think I've seen other sites carrying them but the sites look a little sketchy.

so do u know whats a good xenon matching bulb for the fogs randy?
Hey eric I just tried pulling the 9005 PIAA xtreme whites from my Camry and sticking them in the DRL/highbeams in the RDX, and they wouldn't fit right in the housing. I couldn't get them to seat in the socket and I didn't want to force them. Let me know how yours work out when you get them.

I haven't found a good match for the fogs. I'm gonna stick some PIAA xtreme white in those and see how they look, but I'm not too optimistic about it. The silverstars in the DRL/highbeams look about the same as stock. Of course upon pulling the stock bulbs I noticed they too are made by Sylvania...

just got my PIAA H11. it looks as though you can go either through the top of the engine bay or from the tire well. just remove a few screws. ill do it and maybe take some pics. ill take some shoots at night to show you what it looks like. im kinda going for the Lexus HID/yellow fogs look.

Fog light bulb replacement

ok i found the easiest way to get to the bulbs is through the tire well.

turn your wheels so you can access the screws easier. remove the two screws are shown. it may not be necessary to remove the top screw.

bend weather guard (dont know what is called) back so you can reach the bulbs. its ok to bend it. it went back with no problems for me. you can see the bulb from this picture

replace bulb

this is what it looks like in the day. again, i was trying for the Lexus HID(headlights)/Yellow (fog lights) look. i like it so far but i have yet to see it at night.
sorry if the picture is off. i just got a new monitor and didnt have time to calibrate it yet.

it took me less than 10 minutes to do. its the same deal for the other side.

Excellent info! I have been putting off replacing my fogs thinking I'd have to remove the bumper. I took I look down the front front inside the engine bay, and you'd have to have long skinny arms to get to them from in there.

I may go change my bulbs out now!

Mahalo, DN!

hey so i got mah PIAA's yesterday and i installed them today... here are some pics with the comparisons... i know the pics suck... and IMO so do the bulbs haha u can only see more white with the high beams, its a LITTLE better then the OEM DRL's... and i just used paint to write in the words... got lazy haha....

oh and to install them... (PIAA's) ... u gotta unscrew the 2 screws like half way... then the metal plates will come loose and then u can turn the whole bulb into place... and then just tighten the screws again...

Let me re-ask a question here. Does any of this help you see better or are you guys doing this for appearance?

Well, I know DRL's don't help you see anything, but since they're the same bulbs as the high beams, I wondered if there was any functional value to all of this.

So you can see a little better. How much does this improved vision cost?

well me personally, i never need high beams to see better... i think the xenons are perfect... in my car and in the tsx i had before... the only thing i use the highbeams are to flash ppl to move faster or if they bout to hit me or something... but i mean from what i recall, the new bulbs, shine a little further and brighter, more white ... but what i was hoping to do was get the DRL more white too...

Yeah, well, I live in an area that has no street lights and a lot of moving targets (i.e. deer). Seeing as far down the road as possible is a necessity. The HID low beams are bright enough, but they're not aimed high enough.

You can adjust them yourself, but be careful, you dont want them too high or everyone else will be blinded. I thought mine were very low from factory as i was driving the night of my delivery. I brought it back the next day and they said they were a little low, readjusted them and poof, perfect.

If there were a way to do it, I'd consider it. My last car had bi-xenon headlights -- really good. And I just noticed where you're from. Ain't no deer or unlit streets in Fresh Meadows, and you never need high beams on the LIE because the car in front of you is never more than two feet away

Nope -- that was my parents' place. After we got married, my wife and I moved out to the burbs in northern NJ. That was over 20 years ago, and with my parents gone, I don't have any reason trundle around Bayside any more.

It is better to look good than to see good. I better clarify that statement as sarcastic. This is a complete waste of time, SAVE YOUR MONEY.
